The Movie |
The G Team is a comedic adult movie from writer and director Freddie. Although The G Team came out the year after Joe Carnahan's 2010 film The A-Team, the movie feels like it is more of a spoof of the 1983 television series created by Stephen J. Cannell and Frank Lupo.
The plot for the movie is that The G Team — consisting of Hanabal (Freddie), Mr. G (Graham), and Mad Dog Murdog (Hanabal's dog) — are hired by Chief Inspector (George Williams) to look into the death of a local criminal's murder. The team is called in because there is a belief that there is a policeman on the criminal's payroll.
The comedy in The G Team is sight gags and set-ups in the style of Police Squad/The Naked Gun. Obviously, with this style of humor, some of the jokes are hits, and some of the jokes are misses. In this reviewer's opinion, there are far more hits than misses in the movie.
The plot itself plays second fiddle to the jokes in the movie, and while the plot does progress as the movie goes along, this isn't the type of movie that you watch for an in-depth plot since it takes second fiddle to the jokes and sex scenes.
The biggest issue with The G Team lies in the sex scenes. It isn't the sex scenes themselves as the cast appears to be doing a good job. The issue lies in the cinematography. While the camera well captures the nonsexual portions, there is an obvious issue with capturing the sex scenes, often relying on extreme gynecological close-ups. Part of this issue may lie in the whos who in the movie of camera operators consisting of Andy Osbourn, Graham, Freddie, Darren Barker, and George Williams.
The G Team is cheaply made but works with the budget instead of against it, sometimes even partaking in self-mockery. The G Team is silly, immature, and cheesy but stays on the side of being funny, and it is clear from the behind the scenes segments that the cast had a lot of fun making the movie, which shows in the end product.
Ultimately, The G Team is going to be an adult movie that viewers will either love or hate. This reviewer loved it; however, he has to recommend that you rent the movie before purchasing so you don't end up with a movie in your collection that you hate.
The Edition |
The edition of The G Team screened is the streaming-only edition available on TVXHardcore.com.
Freddies World has done a decent job with their streaming-only edition of The G Team. The G Team was shot digitally and is presented in the anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1. The picture quality is great with a nice clean image and good colors.
The G Team is presented with an English Stereo audio track. The sound presentation for the movie is problematic. The sound levels are uneven, and as a result, some of the dialog can be hard to hear.
Freddies World has included an extra for The G Team. There are outtakes presented at the end of each of the segments and then after the final credits for the movie.
Final Thoughts |
The G Team is a spoof of The A-Team from Freddie. The movie is hit and miss, with some aspects working incredibly well and others not so well. This reviewer loved the parts of the movie that work and enjoyed the movie; however, The G Team will not be for all viewers. This reviewer recommends a rental prior to purchasing. Freddies World has done a decent job with their streaming-only edition on TVXHardcore.com with great picture quality but problematic sound quality.
