Initial Expectations: There’s something about this one that looks like a lot of fun. I can’t say why, but I’m looking forward to this one.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are pretty good. The audio is clear and well balanced, although I did hear a couple very minor background noises. The video is also nicely handled. To start with, it’s very nicely presented in anamorphic widescreen rather than going with the bargain basement method of non-anamorphic. The video is a little on the soft side and there are noticeable shadows in every scene that come from the performers as well as the crew. There’s also a fair amount of camera motion and fast pans and zooms.

Music: None

Menus: The main menu’s okay, and pretty much just blends a bit of the boxcover with a little minor animation. The chapter menu lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and a name fo the scene. You can also select a scene based on the star’s name and picture, where you’re also allowed to choose where in the scene you want to go sexually.

The Feature

My only complaint here is that the camera work is a little rough with some fast zooms and pans. This is one of the best scenes in the movie.

Scene 2 - Katja Kassin and Chris Cannon

Scene 3 - Sandy Simmers and Van Damage

Scene 4 - Roxetta and Nick Manning

This is another scene that had some nice potential but never felt like it fully used it.

Fucking in the Name of Science is a pretty average fuck flick. Sadly, that’s one heck of a let-down here. There’s some great talent here, and they do a nice job with some fun setups. The problems here were all behind the camera. Although there appears to be some pretty good chemistry in each of the scenes, the camera work and editing often left me not caring too much about the sex. There’s plenty of close-ups, and everything about the camera work and editing felt generic as well as feeling a bit random. This is really too bad because this should have been one heck of a great movie. When you put Nicki Hunter, Katja Kassin, and Roxetta together in the same movie, that should all but guarantee you that you’re going to need to go shopping for a new pair of pants, as well as more Kleenex, paper towels, napkins, and toilet paper just because you’re probably going to go through enough bodily fluids watching the movie that you’re going to go through all those and then some. Instead, Caesar Bonobo comes off as a director who’s just in it for the money without really caring what he puts out. Fucking in the Name of Science has some amusing moments, but in the end comes out as a pretty average porno.

The Extra Stuff

The slide show lasts about four and three quarter minutes with about six seconds per good looking snapshot or full screen photo. Trailers are included for Barely Legal Innocence 3, Asian Fever 24, Ghetto Booty 16, Young Latin Ass, Busty Beauties 15, and The Harder They Cum 2. There’s also a behind the scenes featurette and commercials.

The behind the scenes featurette lasts about nine and a half minutes. It’s an okay behind the scenes featurette, but it feels like it could have gone on much longer. There’s a little fun here, but nothing that really drew me in.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many of Hustler’s DVDs can be found online for between about $16 and $25 with stores offering it everywhere in between. Rent this one first or aim low. The idea’s fun, but the sex never keeps up with it. The technical aspects are handled pretty well, but there’s not a lot of effort put into the extras. This is an okay DVD with the most impressive thing about it being that it was given an anamorphic widescreen transfer.

Note to Hustler: You had a nice idea here, but please do one of two things with this series. Either give it to a better director or get Caesar Bonobo some of the help he needs so he can get his movies up to the quality level one normally associates with the Hustler name.
