The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are very good. The audio is clear and well balanced, and I didn't notice any background noises. The video is presented in anamorphic widescreen and also looks very nice. It's smooth and free of grain, but often seemed a touch dark. I guess this can somewhat be attributed to the movie happening during night, but it was still annoying at times.

Music: The music is excellent, starting with a great balance and then working in a style that's familiar first of the classic Airplane! to start the movie off. The style nicely changes to be reminiscent of classic comedies for the story portions of the movie, and is nicely absent from the sex scenes.

Menus: The main menu nicely blends a bit of the cover with a little minor animation and a few minor clips of the movie for a pretty good first impression. The chapter menu lest you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene along with a chapter number that doesn't correspond to the chapter numbers in the movie, and gives you each girl's name for the first chapter of her scene.

The Feature

Manuel is learning that things work a little different in America than it does in France for shooting porn. This is a hot scene that felt like it could have been much better with a little more distance.

Once again the camera seemed a little too fond of close-up work, and once again it seemed more like a deliberate choice than anything due to spacial constraints of the location. This is a hot scene that felt like it could have been a little hotter with a little better camera work.

Fly Girls is a great adult feature. The setup is fun, and works great to bring in plenty of humor along with an easy ability to transition into the sex scenes. The entire cast does a great job with the entire movie, and there's plenty of little inside joke comments that make it all the better. Evan Stone was laugh out loud funny almost every time he took the screen, and Jenna Haze also did a great job with plenty of jokes poking fun at herself. Although Jesse Jane definitely leads things among the girls, there's a really great balance among the cast with everybody getting their moment to shine in the storyline portion of the movie. Sexually there's also a great balance through the movie, and nobody really stands out above the rest. The only complaint I can really have about the sex is that the camera work seemed a little too focused on having close-up shots, and it seemed like it was either very close shots or far away shots with very few mid-range shots that let you see both the penetration and the reactions among the stars clearly. That's a fairly minor complaint with how enjoyable Fly Girls is, but it's also a complaint that I regularly had while watching. Fly Girls might have a couple minor faults, but it's still one heck of an enjoyable ride.

The Extra Stuff

Trailers are included for Island Fever 4, Nurses, Cheerleaders, Babysitters, Teachers, Pirates, Pirates 2, and Stoya: Sexy Hot. The photo gallery can be viewed either as single pictures or as a slide show lasting six minutes with about four seconds per still. There's also contact information and a behind the scenes featurette.

The behind the scenes featurette lasts about sixteen and a half minutes. Jamal and his camera move all around the shoot, and has a nice time chatting with the stars. Each star is nicely featured in the featurette and gets a few moments to chat as well as Evan Stone getting a chance to have plenty of fun with his interviews and Jesse getting a little time to show some of her special skills. It's a nice little featurette, but nothing overly special and actually seems more than lacking for a movie this big.

As much as I hate to say it, this is really a disappointing extras package. The movie shows a ton of effort, and looks like it was a ton of fun to make. If the extra package here had things like extra sex, bloopers, and a much more extensive behind the scenes featurette, this would have easily been a 5 Star DVD. As it is the extras hold the entire release back from getting there and feels like if the trailers were left out this release could have easily fit on a single DVD without sacrificing audio or video quality.

Currently, many Digital Playground DVDs can be found online for between about $24 and $36 with a few stores offering them near the low end. This one's well worth the money. The movie has a couple minor faults, but still ends up being very fun and very impressive with plenty of repeat viewing potential. The technical aspects show some nice care, but sadly the extras leave plenty to be desired. This is a great movie on a DVD that could have used a little more effort.

Note to Digital Playground: I hope when you do a release as major as this in the future you put some decent care into your extras.
