Most Vivid movies feature very 'vanilla' sex encounters -- you know, mostly vaginal and oral sex, occasionally in an interesting position or in the ass. But for the most part, Vivid's feature line has been pretty couple's friendly. Extreme Sex pushes those the boundaries by exploring some common fetishes. Under the premise of a dinner date for their 5-year anniversary, a younger-looking Brad Armstrong takes Dyanna Lauren to a restaurant, where it turns out that under the new management it has become a sex club. That's about the extent of the plot, and it's almost all-sex from there. It's a bit of a stretch when the couple goes from squabbling to cuddly after an evening of anonymous sex, but it's a formula that's been used often in porn. Whether it's petite Tammi Ann getting royally paddled by Tom Byron (in his greasy rock star phase) or Dyanna getting a ton of candle wax dripped on her ass, it's definitely outside of Vivid's normal box. There's also some shaving, anal probing, and shoe worship to boot. I wouldn't call the sex anything to write home about, especially if you are familiar with the releases from Evil Angel, Extreme Associates, and the like. But I think it could be a good "testing the waters" video for some couples. The quality of the DVD is pretty good, although I was disappointed with the rather hollow audio that's fitting for a daytime soap opera. I continue to be unimpressed by Vivid's extras, especially since they released Extreme Sex under their flagship line. And as a final note, I have to point out that Marc Wallace, who's an HIV positive pariah in some circles, does have condomless intercourse with Rebecca Bardoux in this movie. This is before the controversy, but I'm sure the psychological effect of him riding bareback will be too much for some. Overall, I think this title is probably best suited for adventurous couples that want to step out of the Vivid box just a little. It's not very good raincoater material for the most part, so despite the title it shouldn't be on the wish list of true extreme sex fans. Even putting aside the subject matter, the video is very old school -- cheesy sets, unimaginative videography, and a cast of mostly retired performers. I'm really shocked that this was released under the Vivid line rather than the more budget-minded Vivid Wave label.
