Initial Expectations: Wicked has shown the ability to turn out some great DVDs, which always gives me high expectations for them. For some reason, however, I’m not expecting this one to be quite up to their normal par.

Initial Reaction: It’s a nicely done feature that does a good job of turning Shakespear into porn.

Audio /Video Quality: I’ve come to expect top notch technical aspects from Wicked’s DVDs, and Exile doesn’t disappoint. The audio is clear and well balanced, while the picture is clear right out to the edge. Some of the picture has a soft feel, due to some muted natural light being used, but the colors still appear as they should. There’s also quite a bit of the feature that’s done with a blue and white tone, that gives a nice feel of desolation and hopelessness, as well as an artistic feel. Both work great, and play off each other to the point that they help out the overall feature. There’s also a French audio track, which doesn’t seem to synch too bad with the video during the sex. Unlike many other dubbed movies, the original audio seems to be used during the sex acts, which is a great touch.

Music: The music varies a little bit, but is always one of two styles. During the bright above ground scenes, it’s a romantic classical style, while the underground Exile scenes use a kind of industrial style. Both styles fit the scenes very well, and add quite a bit to them. They’re also nicely balanced with the rest of the audio, and at times are quiet enough that you can barely even hear it.

Menus: The main menu has a nice bit of animation and gives the DVD a unique feel. The chapter menu lists each scene by title along with a small clip of the scene.

The Feature: Brad Armstrong’s vision of the future in Exile has the world divided into two, the elite that live above ground enjoying life, and those who are exiled underground to support the elite’s fun and games toiling in state run factories. Two people seem to be rebelling against this system. Romeo (Alec Metro) in Exile, who is planing on escaping from Exile, and Juliet (Jill Kelly), who has yet to be with a man or woman. When they meet, it’s almost love at first sight, a love that’s destined for tragedy since we’ve first found out their names.

Missy starts out sucking her former husband Mickey G.’s cock as he kisses Stephanie Swift. They’re all obviously members of the elite, with the scene having kind of a French renaissance style to it. Stephanie drops down to help Missy fulfill her oral duties and then lies underneath Missy so she can have her pussy eaten as Mickey fucks Missy from behind as well as suck a little cock. Stephanie gets her turn in control also, as riding Mickey until he’s about to blow. The girls team up to take a decent spurt between them orally, but most of it seems to fly a bit wild. It’s a very artistic scene that has some decent romance as well. Missy seems fairly restrained here compared to some of her other roles, but it works well since neither she nor Stephanie dominates the scene. It’s a good scene to start things out with, having some nice heat and great art direction.

Brad Armstrong, one of the controllers at the factory, tests worker Sydnee Steele’s company loyalty in the next scene, even though she doesn’t have any other options as one of the exiles. This scene also has a bit of a European feel, but rather than the elite French feel of the last scene, it almost has a German, Shinder’s List, type feel that’s helped out quite a bit by the scene being in blue and white. Brad stoops down to lick and finger Sydnee’s snatch, but is interrupted by Jill Kelly before being able to do anything but give. It’s a nice opening, but feels a bit couples friendly. With the background of the feature and the opening feel of the scene, Sydnee in control seemed a little off. This would have been the perfect place for something with a little more of a B&D feel, which Wicked has proved they can do very well in the past.

Brad Armstrong moves on to fantasize about fucking Jill Kelly after meeting her. Once again, it’s a new feel to the scene, this time going back to more of the French feel, but not really going all the way there either. Jill has Brad lick her asshole as he fingers her pussy before sliding her own finger into her ass. She gives him his obligatory blowjob as he sits back in a chair, and then trades places with him so he can fuck her pussy. This really got my blood pumping, and reminded me right there why Jill’s scenes were almost always something to look forward to. It also contrasts nicely with the beautiful and rich setting around them, blending beauty and trash.

It fits well into the feature, and keeps a fairly artistic feel as well. The only complaint I can have about it is that it would have been nicer if it were a couple minutes longer.

Mark Davis and Mickey G. share Raylene and Kailani Reid in the next scene, which ones again uses the elite style. The girls each suck off one of the guys before being rewarded with a clam licking. Surprisingly, the girls never interact with each other until close to the end of the scene, and barely even look at each other as they’re fucking before then. It’s a fairly average scene that would have worked a lot better if the groups would have been a little more into each other. It’s captured nicely, but seems a bit laid back.

Finally, Jill Kelly and Alec Metro consummate their engagement in Exile. Jill starts out on her knees before Alec drops down to let his tongue pay her back on both her holes. It’s a nice couples way to finish things, and handles it well, but not blandly.

Exile is another well done Brad Armstrong feature. He nicely mixes artistically captured sex with a classic storyline. It’s kind of like taking West Side Story and replacing the singing and dancing with trash talking and sex. Although there’s quite a few good scenes, Jill Kelly turns out the best scene of the bunch with Brad Armstrong, as well as doing a very nice job leading the feature. Sadly, Raylene and Kailani Reid’s scene with Mark Davis and Mickey G. was kind of at the opposite end of the spectrum, and left me wanting. Surprisingly, the non-sex sequences, which feature the great Veronica Hart with George Kaplan, are almost as good as the sex scenes, and provide a great anchor for the film. If you’re looking for a well done couples feature that doesn’t feel the need to tone things down a lot, Exile should be strongly considered.

Two photo galleries are included, one for the production and one that goes behind the scenes. Each gallery lasts about two minutes with about six seconds per very nice looking framed photo. Overall: Currently, Exile can be found online for between $20 and $30 with a couple stores offering it near the lower end. This is a pretty good price for this DVD. The feature is nicely done and mixes a great artistic and romantic feel with a little more hardcore sex. The transfer is handled very well, as are the extras which are fairly standard.
