Initial Expectations: Like most other people, I look forward to Ed Powers just a little less than I do going to the dentist. Not even having Tyler in the cast can change that.

Initial Reaction: For Ed it’s pretty good, but that’s not saying much.

Audio /Video Quality: The audio and video is much better than Ed Powers features normally are. The audio is low and often unbalanced and has quite a bit of background noise. You can also hear a few directions here and there and there are a few places where it disappears completely. The video is pretty good, but does show quite a bit of grain. It also suffers from some shadow problems and a few remnants here and there. Overall, it’s about what one normally expects out of more lower budget gonzo porn.

Music: None.

Menus: Unlike Ed’s body, there’s actually a little effort put into the menus. There’s even a little humor in the main menu, with a flag in the background, Ed in a dollar bill type photo, and The Star Spangled Banner playing in the background. I’m not sure if it’s meant to be funny or not, but I do admit to laughing a little. The chapter menu lets you jump to one of four places in the movie, with a nice sized clip of the movie and a scene number to guide you.

The Feature: Before the opening credits, which nicely show each performer’s name before a clip of them in the movie, even roll, Ed “Ewwwww” Powers gives a very nice tribute to America. Afterwards he massacres a classic American song, twisting it to fit him much like he does porn.

Ed starts things off talking to Tyler, a cute bleached blonde who quickly tells Ed that she isn’t into guys. I’m pretty sure that by now Ed is used to this response, and after showing that he doesn’t know the difference between a squirrel and a rabbit, talks Tyler into possibly doing an all girl scene if they can find somebody near the Liberty Bell. I’ve really liked Tyler since I first saw her back in Girls Will Be Boys 8. She’s a cute bleached blonde with tasteful implants and a pierced pussy lip. They head back to Ed’s limo where Tyler masturbates for Ed. Unfortunately, this gets Ed worked up to the point that he thinks he needs to break out “Little Ed”, who is very aptly named and who Ed unfortunately strokes for us with Tyler licking his hand for a little lube. Tyler and Barbie start off kissing and undressing each other on the other bed. Tyler apparently won the coin toss and elected to receive, as Barbie soon dives her face between Tyler’s legs to sensually lick and suck her pussy. Tyler returns the favor before they move into a 69 and then break out the toys. They start things out making their way through a couple positions with a double dildo before moving onto a plain dildo. Tyler drives the action very nice and turns this into a very nice lead in scene.

Although Ed Powers Takes Philadelphia, I doubt the feeling is mutual. As usual with Ed, every time he takes the screen it’s a disappointment. Tyler, however, shines in almost every one of her appearances. She drives every scene she’s in, and is impressive and fun from the first instant she takes the screen. It would be much more appropriate to have Tyler Take Philadelphia. Unfortunately, Ed’s style takes away from much of the feature. He has a few good points, and starts things off nicely and kind of amusing, but takes things so far past it that it’s just annoying and sad. His direction is better, but not a lot. He stretches out scenes so there’s several great beginnings, but only a couple of them end up actually finishing. You can hear action going on in the next bed, but you don’t get to see it until the next scene. In the group scene you never even really get to see everybody working on everybody since the camera never pans back that far. All in all, I think there’s only about two scenes in this entire feature, they’re just chopped up or stopped so that it seems like more. The audio and video vary enough to also draw things down, and the frequent mute in the audio during the final segment really makes it seem like somebody’s not having a good time there. Perhaps the saddest thing is that this is pretty good for Ed. You never get to see him in his tightie whities, and he never gets completely naked. If you’re a fan of Ed Powers, this should be a must have. For anybody curious about Ed, it’s probably the best of his to check out, since he isn’t nearly as annoying as in his regular series. Although he gets the lead billing, it’s not his movie really. Tyler stole it from almost the first instant she took the screen, and didn’t give it up no matter how hard Ed tried to take it back.

Extras: Bios are included for Barbie Brooks, Tyler, and Ed Powers. In each case there’s a photo and a little information that means next to nothing. The photo gallery contains about twenty full screen photos that range between not bad and pretty good. Finally, there’s the standard trailers and boxcovers for many other titles in the Pleasure family, internet information, and phone sex commercials.

Overall: Currently, Ed Powers Takes Philadelphia can be found online for between $13 and $24 with a couple stores offering it for under $15. If you’re a fan of Ed it’s probably a great deal, but I wouldn’t recommend anybody else pay over the low end. The sex is hot, as long as Ed doesn’t participate, and it can even be fun when Ed keeps his trap shut. The transfer is pretty typical for low budget gonzo, and the extras are just as disappointing.

Note to Pleasure: It’s great to see that you got some of the best of Ed. It’s also easy to see why you picked Tyler as a contract girl.
