Initial Reaction: Dreamers is a little above average and Dreamers 2 is a little below average.

Who Should Watch It : Couples and fans of Tina Tyler or Nick Orleans

Who Should Avoid It: Fans of extreme or very hardcore sex, anybody who wants to hear real sex sounds during the sex scenes

Audio /Video Quality: The audio varies a lot. It’s clear and well balanced in most of the features, although it’s fairly obviously dubbed in a few spots. It also disappears completely in other spots. The video is a little grainy, but that’s to be expected from a feature of this age. There are also a few flashes of pixelation, but they’re fairly minor. Many of the scenes happen in dreams manipulated by computers, so I’m not sure if some of the video problems are intentional.

Music: The music is very romantic and couples friendly. Sadly, the loop for the music is very obvious in a few places. It’s also normally the only audio in the sex scenes. I don’t normally care for this, but Mr. Orleans normally slows things down just a tad to make things more romantic which the music masks.

Menus: The main menu alternates between a still similar to the DVD cover and alternates with a few clips from the features. It’s simple but looks very nice. The chapter menu lists the chapters by topic.

Dreamers

Dreamers starts out with a few clips from a video Tina Tyler made before going into suspended animation for twenty years. She’s scared, but being a giver, she willingly does so in order to help humanity overcome many of its problems. She isn’t alone in the suspended animation, she’s joined by Mark Davis and Alicia Rio. Alicia feels it’s time to take a risk and Mark isn’t quite sure but agrees to go anyway. It isn’t the suspended animation he minds, it’s more of the uncertainty of whether the machines will keep their end of the bargain and wake them up in twenty years.

Mark Davis starts things off romantically by a fire with a blonde that I don’t recognize. He plays with her nipples through her shirt before gently unbuttoning it. Dreamers 2

Dreamers 2 picks up right where Dreamers left off. The machines are worried about the people waking from suspended animation and ruining their plans. Thankfully, the people are still having very sexual dreams

Like most sequels, Dreamers 2 doesn’t live up to the original. The idea is okay here, but the execution really falters in almost every way. Dreamers 2 attempts to build on the story that began in Dreamers , but seems to get confused or lost on the way. The technical qualities also bring this feature down quite a bit. The video is normally okay, but the audio cuts in and out, frequently hurting both the sex scenes and the plot sequences. The sex scenes are pretty, which Nick Orleans almost always does very well, but doesn’t have the heat his scenes normally do. It’s also missing Tina Tyler for the most part, who raised the first Dreamers far above this level. This time she doesn’t even get a full scene, which is a huge disappointment after featuring her on the cover.

Extras: Just web sites. Normally I’d whine a lot about a company not caring enough to put extras on a DVD, but there aren’t many companies out there that care enough to give the consumer two features for the price of one. For this reason, I’m not really considering the extras in the overall DVD rating as I normally would.

Overall: Currently, Dreamers 1 & 2 can be found online for between $13 and $25 with a couple stores offering it for under $15. Dreamers is almost certain to be enjoyed by fans of Tina Tyler and Nick Orleans, although its sequel suffers quite a bit. Although there aren’t any extras outside of website info, there are two pretty decent features with a varying transfer. Although the top end price is steep, at the low end, it’s almost impossible to not recommend it even with the problems with the second feature.

Note to Adam & Eve: Putting together some of your movies like this is a great idea, especially if you keep the price down like this. I hope to see more of your movies released like this, but please work on the technical aspects a little first. The only thing I really miss is some kind of bios or cast page so those of us who aren’t familiar with some of the stars can recognize them.
