Initial Expectations: I’ve seen very few of John Leslie’s movies, but my expectations are fairly high as I know a lot of people have been waiting for this DVD to come out and Evil Angel normally does a great job on their DVDs.

Initial Reaction: It definitely has John Leslie’s style and is a very well done DVD.

Audio /Video Quality: From what I’ve seen of John Leslie’s movies they all have intentionally varying audio and video qualities. Dirty Tricks #1 is no different. The audio is very clear during sex but some of the dialogue is hard to understand. The video also varies from very clear to so grainy and shadowy that you can barely make anything out. Thankfully there aren’t many bad parts.

Music: The opening credits has a cool blues piece, but there’s no music after that.

Disc Problems: NO TIME CODE! I asked Tricia at Evil Angel and she says that it was a mistake made in authoring due to a software update. They decided not to redo the DVD so they could make the street date they promised consumers and for financial reasons. It’s nice to know that it’s an accident and that it hopefully won’t happen again (although there were two other DVDs done at the same time with a time code). On the plus side, it does have chapters on the main menu and it’s all one chapter so that you can scan backwards throughout the entire movie rather than hitting a wall.

Review: Dirty Tricks #1 revolves around a simple premise - people getting paid to have sex. In almost every scene somebody pays somebody else to have sex. This theme links each scene together and is the only recurring theme. It’s an idea that’s been around since both sex and some kind of money have been around, yet a subject that seems to be rarely used. It’s a decent idea for an all - sex porn movie as it allows you to keep a common theme yet you can do almost anything, which John Leslie does.

The first scene has Lexi Leigh driving up to meet her husband at a motel. After a very warm scene on the bed, couch, and floor, Bobby asks her to have sex with some friends of his. She agrees as long as her pays her a thousand dollars. They must be some important friends, as Bobby agrees to pay up. Personally, I wouldn’t think they’re that important as I don’t know who they are. No, I’m not trying to be conceited. I’m trying to tactfully point out the lack of credits. Bobby watches from the couch as she blows both of them and then fucks one of them before taking the facial. It’s a very warm scene but not quite hot. Afterwards, she dumps Bobby to leave with the other guys.

Next, Kyle Stone comes out of the bathroom to find Selena waiting for him on the bed. She teases him nicely before going into the bathroom to relieve herself. Kyle follows her in for a blowjob and then leaves afterwards. It’s enough to get Selena going who masturbates on the bed with the pillow and bedspread until there’s a knock at the door. She welcomes this new guy in and helps him as he washes his cock in the bathroom sink. They make full use of the bed until Kyle returns and takes over for the other guy who’s left to spank it on the couch. It’s not too bad of a scene but it’s broke up enough that it doesn’t build up a lot of heat. The only thing that really stands out is that Kyle doesn’t get to wear Selena’s panties around his neck.

Candy Apples and Ariel Daye interrupt Jake Steed as he shoots hoops in the back yard. He questions them about being fucked in the ass. Ariel responds shyly and slightly embarrassed while Candy keeps quiet and seems to be turned on by it. He sends them to the other side of the pool while he shoots a few more hoops and then swims across to meet them. This scene was very hot and will really please fans of anal sex. It’s one of the few scenes out there where there’s absolutely no vaginal sex. Candy remains turned on by getting fucked in the ass and puts on a great show as Jake pumps her nice round ass. Ariel, surprisingly, is also really turned on by it. She remains shy until Jake starts fucking her ass and then she turns into a completely different, completely wild woman. It’s an amazing transformation and one that really makes the scene. Jake finished them off by pulling out of Ariel’s ass and shooting his load onto her gaping asshole letting it drip down into Candy’s ready and willing mouth. It’s a very hot and nasty way to end this scene and it fits the mood perfectly.

Switching gears a little, we find Vince Voyeur and Kim Kataine driving down an alley. Kim appears a little lost but Vince knows right where he’s going. He takes her to Mr. Marcus’s pad and presents Kim with her gift of Mr. Marcus. She’s very happy to get a piece of not- so-little dark meat that she follows him into the bathroom to watch him shower. Touching her pretty pussy isn’t enough and she opens the door to blow him and get fucked. Mr. Marcus stays in the shower while Kim stays outside leaning her ass in just far enough for Mr. Marcus to fuck her pussy. Mr. Marcus pulls out to finish his shower and collects his pay after drying off. He and Kim then move to the couch where she takes care of him a little more while Vince watches and spanks it. After a little while he comes over to join in and he and Mr. Marcus switch off back and forth to fuck Kim. Mr. Marcus, being the good worker that he is, insists that he should fuck her more as that’s what he’s paid to do. It’s another very hot scene and gives the entire movie a lot of momentum.

Channone keeps that momentum going in the next scene as she rides in on her cycle. She heads up to the hotel room and is interviewed by John. She talks about how she’s a student who’s making money as a prostitute and tells John about the night before with Steven St. Croix and Blake Palmer. The scene alternates back and forth between Channone’s story and the action she’s describing. It’s a very hot scene and John Leslie’s style really works well here. Surprisingly, Channone doesn’t take a double penetration with Steven and Blake as she fingers both her ass and her pussy for John during her interview. She also works herself over very well with a big dildo while John watches with the camera. It’s a really good scene and shows John’s technique as a director exceptionally well.

Finally, Senator Dave Cummings works a little on some of his notes at a diner. Lana Sands and Kirsty Waay are trying to close down but agree to stay open if he’ll pay them $600 each to do a little show. As Senators, as well as former Arkansas governors and Presidents are known to do, he readily agrees. This scene really scared me at first. I not sure if Dave even remembers being fifty anymore. He’s only got a little hair left on the sides and I’m not sure if he has three hairs left on his body that are other than white. He also appears to have an average body for a man of his age. This scene was very risky and I have to give John a lot of credit for pulling it off. This was actually a hot scene due to all three performers. Lana and Kirsty do a great job of working each other over as well as taking Dave on. I half expected him to have a heart attack during this scene. Dave also makes the scene great with some of his lines. He comments on how he better make the best of getting hard since it doesn’t happen much anymore at his age. I admit that I was ready to hit the fast forward button when this scene started but I’m awfully glad I didn’t.

I can see John Leslie’s style working quite well in certain situations. I can see this style being part of what makes his Voyeur series such as success. Here it doesn’t work as well as other styles might. If all of Dirty Tricks #1 was done in the style of the scene with Channone it would probably work very well. As it is, it’s more like an adult movie that was done on an extremely low budget.

I have to give John Leslie credit for taking the risks he does. Peeing scenes are a completely hit or miss thing in the United States and normally fall in the miss column like a drunk trying to hit the bowl in the dark. Here it’s done very tastefully and although it’s not something I normally like, I didn’t mind it at all. The scene with Dave Cummings, Lana Sands, and Kirsty Waay was also a very risky scene. I was a turned off as soon as I saw the picture on the back cover. When I saw Dave on the screen I instinctively reached for my remote control but I couldn’t fast forward. It was handled extremely well and ended up as a surprisingly hot scene. Dirty tricks #1 isn’t always what you’d expect, but it’s not a bad change.

Extras: Evil Angel starts with some nice touches on their overall product that technically might not be extras but are definitely worth mentioning. First, they use a two sided cover on the DVD case. One side is hard core and the other is soft core. I know that if you’re buying Evil Angel DVDs you probably aren’t that squeamish about seeing hard core action, but for those who don’t want to see it on the case, they can now avoid it. Both covers look very nice.

Evil Angel also has the nicest menus by far. The chapter menu is listed by the talent rather than the chapter. It’s very nice if you’re looking for a certain scene with somebody or you’re wondering who a certain person is but are too lazy to reach for the cover or still aren’t certain after looking at the cover. They also include a fetish menu which lets you skip ahead to the action you want to see. You have the choice of Anal, blowjob, cum shot, hot sex, pussy licking & rimming, and tease. Although I don’t use it much, it’s a great menu and one that I wish more companies would use.

Of course, there’s the standard extras also. The photo gallery is manual and contains about thirty snapshots. As with most of Evil Angel’s photo galleries this one is very clear and very well done. There are also trailers for Voyeur #4, Fresh Meat #2, Voyeur #5, Voyeur #6, and Dirty Tricks #2 . The trailers are nicely done and would hold their own against most mainstream trailers. The only bio that’s included is for John Leslie, but it’s one of the best bios I’ve read. It does a great job of covering John’s life. If you’re interested in John Leslie, you also get a few minutes on the John Leslie Blues Band. It’s a treat that blues fans shouldn’t pass up.

Finally, there’s sex outtakes for every scene except the final scene between Kirsty, Lana, and Dave. If you’re interested in some of the behind the scenes workings of an adult film this will probably interest you. The entire scene isn’t done but you have a lot of the scene where you see some of what happens that’s edited out. You also get to hear some of the instructions given to the talent as well as seeing the talent as who they really are. If this doesn’t interest you, however, you’ll probably be fairly bored as it lasts about fifty minutes.

Overall: Currently, Dirty Tricks #1 can be found online for between $23.50 and $30 with several stores offering it for under $25. If you’re a fan of John Leslie you’ll probably be quite pleased with it for under $25. The audio and video quality seem pretty good for the range of methods Mr. Leslie uses. The extras are also pretty good.

Note to Evil Angel: I would have rated this slightly higher if a time code was included but I can understand your reasons for not remaking all of the DVDs at this time. Thank you very much to Tricia for such a prompt response so I could finish writing the review.
