Initial Expectations: This has been a pretty fun series, and with Nina Hartley, Sienna West, and Puma Swede in this one I can't help but have some hope.

Initial Reaction: The sex is nice and the movie's fun, but the overall DVD shows so little care it's hard to care too much about it.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are a bit weak. The audio is pretty well balanced and clear, but there are a few minor background noises. The video is presented in the full frame format and is the major weakness for the technical aspects. The camera work is smooth and normally nicely lit, but it also has some very frequent pixelation that's bad enough that I can't help but think that it's noticeable even on the smallest television or monitor.

Disc Complaints / Authoring Notes: The authoring is a bit funky, which doesn't seem to be anything too unusual with Naughty America. Rather than having the entire movie on a title that makes it easy for viewers to skip to where ever they choose in the movie, which is extremely nice if you get tired of a scene and just want to jump ahead randomly or if you're viewing the movie later and want to go to a specific point in the movie, each scene has its own title, similar to how some studios run their TV shows on DVD. Needless to say, this makes the DVD extremely hard to navigate. This style of authoring has thankfully gone the way of the dodo with most studios, but Naughty America and Homegrown seem to be sticking with it. Both studios are distributed by Pure Play (along with Hundies, who looks like they might have moved away from this style recently) and neither studio seems to be willing to put any real effort into their extras. Seeing that lack of care in the same areas for two studios being distributed by the same company I can't help but think that the problem and lack of care lies with Pure Play Media more than anything, especially when I talked with Naughty America at Erotica LA and was told they were looking at ways to improve their overall DVD and that I'd be seeing some changes in a few months. I realize these things don't happen overnight, or that one won't even see the difference in a few weeks, but I was told that almost six months to the day before this DVD was produced. Combined with the downward slide of their video quality, I can't help but have the impression that they don't really care that much about the quality of their DVDs as long as a few people are willing to pay for them. I'm deducting a half point from the overall DVD for the poor authoring on this DVD.

Menus: The main menu nicely works through a little animation and a few clips from the movie for a very nice first impression. The chapter menu is pretty standard for Naughty America (which means it's a small step up from the typical chapter menu), and lets you choose a scene based on a still and the name(s) of the girl(s) in the scene.

The Feature

The Diary of a MILF series works on a fairly simple idea. Each scene is about something an older woman writes in her diary. Sometimes it's cheating on her hubby or boyfriend, sometimes it's trying something new with him. Regardless, there's a little something to get each scene started.

Scene 1 – Kayla Synz, Puma Swede, and Tommy Gun

When hot bottle blonde Puma goes out on the town with her brunette girlfriend Kayla, they decide to get it on with bartender Tommy when they don't see anybody better by last call. After chatting back and forth across the bar, Puma kisses Tommy and he hops across the bar and sits on it for the girls to team up on him orally. Scene 2 – Brooke Belle, Penny Porshe, and Jerry

Scene 3 – Sienna West and Ben English

This is a hot scene that could have been smoking hot if Naughty America cared more about their technical aspects.

Scene 4 – Soleil, Alex Sanders, and Otto Bauer

Black and busty Soleil writes in her diary about how the grocery store can be a great place to meet guys as she went from checking out cucumbers to tossing some salad. This is a good scene, but nowhere near a great one.

Scene 5 – Nina Hartley and Christian XXX

The scene lasts just under twenty minutes, which is seven or more minutes shorter than all of the other scenes, and it feels much tighter than the others. It never feels rushed, and even at nineteen minutes there's a moment or two that seem a little stretched out. This is a good scene that should definitely please all those who are enjoying Nina taking on more MILF style roles.

Diary of a MILF 8 is a pretty hot MILF movie that could of and should have been even hotter. There's some very nice chemistry in all of the scenes, and it's made better with nicely done setups, some nice variety to the action from scene to scene, and best of all, a nice sense of enjoyment and fun through all of it. That said, there's two things that hold this release back terribly. The first is the length of the scenes. All but one scene lasts over twenty five minutes, and every scene feels like it could have been tightened up a bit. The other problem is the video quality. The camera work and lighting are well done, but there's a lot of pixelation throughout the movie and some of it reminded me a lot of my original Nintendo system. With how little effort Naughty America has put into their DVDs since they first started releasing them, seeing the video quality slide like it has in the last few months really stands out, and it's really too bad. Naughty America does a great job with their setups and keeping their movies 'couples friendly' without making the action feel held back (which is more than I can say for most of the 'couples friendly' studios out there) and also making it easy to relate to. Diary of a MILF 8 is great if you want lighter setups and older women who aren't going to see how nasty they can get, but with the effort Naughty America puts into their releases, don't expect much beyond that.

Currently, most of Naughty America’s DVDs can be found online for between about $15 and $27 with most stores offering them under $20. Rent this one first or aim low. The movie's fun and has some nice sex, but as usual with Naughty America there's no effort put into the overall DVD. This means that the technical aspects are weak and there's absolutely no effort put into the extras. With a little care this could have been a fairly highly recommended DVD, but instead it ends up being a “Why bother?” DVD.

Note to Naughty America: If you're going to keep decreasing the quality of your overall releases, please decrease the prices on your DVDs as well. With the effort you're putting into them compared to most of what's out there, you should be pricing your releases so most stores could sell them in the $12 to $15 range.
