Initial Expectations: The thought of Jules Jordan shooting almost anybody, let alone Devon, is enough to get my hopes up.

Initial Reaction: It’s a pretty hot feature that does a great job of showing both Devon and Jules Jordan early in their careers.

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are pretty average for lower budget gonzo. The audio is pretty good, and normally clear, but there’s more than a few background noises. The video uses the standard gonzo view as well as a POV perspective, and normally has a little bit of grain. There are quite a few lighting problems, but they normally only last for a few seconds before they’re corrected. There’s also a few of the usual soft focus problems, as well as a few relics and a bit of grain. Although these things would normally really bring a feature down for me, here they actually help it a little. The problems are fairly juvenile, and give the “Lost Footage” aspect of the feature a little more of an air of authenticity.

Disc Problems / Complaints: After the second scene (at about 56 minutes), the DVD stops just as if you hit the stop button. I’m assuming this is a layer change, but I’m not positive. In order to watch the remainder of the feature, you have to go through the chapter menu. It’s an annoying problem, and as much as I hate to say it, one that makes Vivid look like they don’t quite know what they’re doing with DVD yet. I’d like to say that this was an isolated incident, but I had this same problem (only a little worse) on Vivid’s Cheyenne: Up Close and Personal. I’ve deducted a half point from the overall rating because of this recurring problem.

False Advertising: It’s no surprise that Vivid’s DVDs aren’t the full 4 hours they advertise, but this time they don’t even come close. I didn’t do an extremely tight time count, but I think the overall DVD comes out at 200 minutes, give or take a couple minutes. This is hell and gone from 240 minutes, so I’ve deducted another half point from the overall rating here.

Menus: The main menu has a little bit of animation that gives it a professional feel, but still keeps things very straightforward. The chapter menu lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of the scene and a chapter number.

The Feature: Almost as soon as she started the adult industry, Devon got the attention of a lot of people. Signing with Vivid for quite a while didn’t hurt her getting attention. Now, Vivid has released a collection of Devon’s earliest scenes from when she was just starting. According to Jules Jordan, he shot all of these scenes in 1997 and then sold them to Vivid when they signed Devon. They’ve say on the shelf until now, and appear to be presented about like Jules gave them to Vivid.

Devon starts out showing herself off to Jules Jordan and letting him play with her pussy. Jules captures Devon getting ready for her day and playing with herself a little on the hotel balcony before they get to some of the better action. Of course, something has to be done with that much oil, so Jules gives a little more of himself and lends her his cock to tittie-fuck. She sucks and strokes Jules until he finally pops on her tits. It’s an okay scene that goes on way too long. The scene is about forty minutes long and doesn’t have any penetration. Devon the Lost Footage is a great feature for a couple reasons. First, it gives Devon’s fans another chance to see her, and features her in every single scene rather than just one or two like in most of her feature films. Second, it lets them see her early in her career, which can be fun since you get to see how far she’s come. Finally, it gives them an introduction to Jules Jordan, who’s one of the hottest gonzo porn directors around right now. Unfortunately, that also brings me to one of my biggest complaints about this DVD. Vivid doesn’t give Jules credit. I’m guessing this is because he was normally under contract by companies other than Vivid, but he also makes features that are quite different from what Vivid has to offer. I realize that this might not matter to a lot of people, but I’ve always been a big supporter of giving credit where it’s due. What might matter to people is that the last couple scenes, especially the final scene, seem to go on forever. This is partially due to them having similar starts and styles. It’s a minor complaint, since everybody I know has a fast forward button on their remote which makes this almost a moot point. If you’re a fan of Devon or Jules Jordan’s style, you’re going to want to check out Devon the Lost Footage.

Extras: As usual, web links and trailers are included. This time, trailers are included for Down the Hatch, Oral XXXstacy, Vivid University, and Casting Couch. The main extra, however, is the eight Devon bonus scenes. Vivid has nicely identified where each scene has come from and divided it into Devon doing guys and Devon doing girls.

This scene appears to have been made at about the same time as the earlier scenes from Nice Neighbors and Tonight, as Devon has much the same feel, which is quite different from the feel of her early scenes.

The amazing Charlie joins Devon for a scene from Commercial World next. As is, it’s a great tease, and it’s actually good enough to make me think about checking out the rest of the feature. I just wish that Vivid would have included entire scenes rather than partials. I’d much rather see two full scenes than half of four scenes.

Overall: Devon: The Lost Footage can be found online for between $20 and $28 with quite a few stores offering it near the low end. If you’re a fan of Devon or Jules Jordan, this is going to be money well spent for you. The transfer lacks a bit, but the sex is hot. Vivid has also included several other Devon scenes as extras, which is a very nice touch.

Note to Vivid: Please wake up your quality control. The feature stopping in the middle makes it look like you don’t quite know what you’re doing and will turn off many customers.
