The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are on the artistic side of things, and work very well. The audio is clear, with the balance varying a bit with the music throughout the movie. Sometimes it's a very nice balance and sometimes the music dominates the audio. The video is nicely presented in anamorphic widescreen. Some of it is filtered to give it a slightly grainy look, and there's also some color effects used. It's very rare for the video to be completely straightforward, but here it works very well for the feel of the movie.

Music: The music is very nicely done. It ranges from light and playful to hard and driving, and is almost always a little on the loud side. That said, this helps with the artistic feeling a bit and worked for me much more than it didn't.

Menus: The main menu does a very nice job of tweaking the cover photo and adding a little background animation to give a very good first impression. The chapter menu, however, leaves a bit to be desired as it goes with the generic clip and chapter number style.

The Feature

With the Deeper series, Robby D goes with a vignette style. The scenes are all independent of each other, but have a fairly heavy artistic feel that is quick to remind viewers of the camera work he did for Celeste’s movies. Unlike Celeste's movies, however, the Deeper series lets you hear the performers.

Scene 1 – Teagan Presley and Jean Val Jean

Still, that's a very minor complaint as Tory and Jerry definitely end Deeper 2 on a high note.

Deeper 2 is another great example of how porn and art can coexist with fantastic results. Robby D. never loses his artistic flair throughout the movie, and varies things a little with each scene. Best of all, he also never lets the art overpower the sex, like so many others do. There's energy and passion in every scene, with the sex not being afraid to get a little nasty. I think Teagan's opening scene with Jean Val Jean was my favorite here, but I can't say that I disliked any of the scenes here. I can see some of Teagan's fans being a little disappointed that she doesn't do anal in either of her scenes and has her men condomized, but with the job she did in each of the scenes I really didn't care (and if any performer feels more comfortable performing safe sex scenes I support them completely). As for other problems, I can't say that I had one. Yes, some of the scenes didn't work quite as well as others, but they're all well above the average mark and all drew me in nicely. I can see the artistic feeling of the movie losing some people, but at the same time I can see it making an awful lot of people happy because it gives them a merging of sex and art that's not easy to find (and especially not as well as Robby does it here). Deeper 2 might not be for everybody, but it worked well for me and leaves me hoping that this series isn't just a two hit wonder.

The photo gallery includes about three dozen very nice looking snapshots and full screen photos which you can either watch at your own pace or as a roughly three and a half minute photo gallery. Of course, there's also a few extra graphics and sound effects added in with the required Robby D. fart jokes. It's a fun little behind the scenes featurette that as usual, is way too short.

Currently, many of Digital Playground’s bigger releases can be found online for between about $18 and $28 with a few stores offering them for under $20. If you like artistic porn, this one should be well worth your money. The sex is hot and isn't afraid to get a little nasty, while never really losing a feeling of chemistry. The technical aspects are very nicely done, and there's even a bit of effort put into the extras. This is a very nicely done DVD.

Note to Digital Playground: It's great to see a behind the scenes featurette here! I hope you include them on more of your releases as well as letting them be a little longer.
