Day in the Dungeon, A Review

Initial Expectations: I wasn’t sure as this is my first S&M feature. From the pictures on the cover I was a little worried.

Initial Reaction: Some of it I really liked and others I didn’t.

Who Should Watch It : People looking for something a little different who are interested in S&M.

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody who thinks Vivid is a little too hardcore.

Audio /Video Quality: The audio varies. The disciplining could normally be heard very clearly. The dialogue and instructions that were being given, however, were often hard to hear. The video was pretty good. There was some grain and some soft focus problems, but it was better than I originally expected.

Music: None.

Review: Each month or so when I get a new pile of adult films I try to pick out at least one title that’s different from what I’d normally pick up. I know that it’s normally a risk and a lot of times I do it just to experience features I normally wouldn’t watch, such as Ed “Ewwwwwwwwww” Powers and Randy “Leatherface” West. This time A Day In The Dungeon won the not-so-coveted I Hope This Doesn’t Suck award, and luckily it didn’t live up to the name of its award. I’ve never watched an entire S&M feature before but there has been a small place in the recesses of my brain that has wondered about it. To satisfy that little place (which is completely different than Ed Power’s “little place”) I decided to review A Day In The Dungeon . As a first S&M movie most of it surprised me in a very good way. It does a nice job of starting out fairly tame, or at least as tame as S&M can be, and increasing the intensity of the scenes as the feature progresses.

The opening scene features Samantha arriving at the dungeon where she’s met by Master Rick and Mistress Stefani. Samantha wears a skirt and sweater with knee high white stockings with a bow in back. It gives her kind of a school girl look which helps some with the scene. She does have a couple tattoos and piercings, but the effect still remains. She’s never experienced S&M but both she and her boyfriend thought it would be interesting for her to visit a dungeon. She’s given instructions on how she’s to do what she’s told when she’s told and then Rick has Stefani put a collar on Samantha and lead her around the floor with a leash a couple times. Afterwards she’s shackled to a large X and lashed. Finally she’s tied up with ropes and has her tits tortured with a pair of tongs. This scene didn’t do much for me but it seemed like a fairly tame intro to S&M that made me feel a little more comfortable watching it.

Natalia gets a little discipline from Mistress Zena in the second scene. Natalia looks slightly professionally dressed and has long bleached hair. At first she appeared to have been an avid tanner, but some of her facial structure suggests she might have a little ethnicity in her, although I’m not sure what kind. She’s extremely cute and has been to a dungeon before. After she undresses Mistress Zena shackles her and spanks her while she counts down from ten. Next, she gets treated with hot wax on her lovely tits followed by clothespins on her pussy lips. Finally she gets some nipple clamps. Natalia is what made the entire feature work for me. I almost expected to see juices running down her leg she was getting so turned on. I hoped to see someone enjoying it this much but I didn’t expect them to be as great as Natalia.

Finally, Mistress Zena and Master Rick give Mistress Stefani a little continuing education. She’s tied and shackled before they lash her and run a sharp spur across her tits. They also put a ball gag on her so she can’t scream and pour hot wax on her. This was more of what I expected from an S&M feature. It appears more like torturing her, but she does seem to enjoy it which makes all the difference in the world.

My main complaint about A Day In The Dungeon is the chapter stops. They seem to be almost completely random. I went to scan back at one point and ended up in the middle of the scene rather than the beginning. I tried scanning back again and ended up in the previous scene. It makes it seem like the DVD is thrown together rather than caring about putting out a quality DVD.

A Day In The Dungeon appears to be a great feature for those who curious about S&M. It progresses from fairly tame to hardcore throughout the feature so nothing comes as too big of a shock. Natalia really stands out in the entire feature as she enjoys it more than most casts do in entire movies from some other companies.

Extras: The slide show lasts just over a minute and a half with about 5 seconds per picture. It mixes full screen and snapshots and ranges from okay quality to very clear. The bios cover Samantha Malone, Stefani Weaver, and Natalia and don’t give much information but do give a decent picture. Finally, there’s a five and a half minute featurette that’s listed as a behind the scenes. I don’t think there’s fifteen seconds here that isn’t exactly as it is in the feature. The other fifteen seconds contain about three out-takes. This should have been called a highlight reel or it would have even worked as a trailer. To call it anything to do with behind the scenes is ridiculous.

Themes: Bondage, discipline, S&M, spanking, foot worship, and hot wax

Raincoat Factor: If it’s your thing, pretty high. If it’s not your thing, very low.

Overall: Currently, A Day In The Dungeon can be found online for between $20 and $24 with all but one store offering it for under $21. If you’re interested in S&M this seems like a good feature to start with although it’s only an hour long. The audio and video are pretty average but the extras lack a little. Although it claims to have a behind the scenes featurette it’s actually a highlight reel of the feature, so don’t be fooled if you think this makes the DVD worth the money.

Note to Legend: For the length of the feature and the extras included, the price seems a little high here. I assume this isn’t a big seller which causes the price to come up some. The “Behind The Scenes” featurette was pathetic and should have been called a trailer or highlight reel instead. If it had been listed as such I would have rated this entire DVD slightly higher.
