Initial Expectations: Sinclair’s movies have been fairly hit or miss for me. I’m a fan of shaving, so I have a little hope here.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are very well done. The audio is clear and well balanced, and I don’t think I noticed a single background noise. The video is also very well done. It has a little grain that gives it almost a film-like look. It’s very nicely lit and often has a slightly artistic look to it.

Music: The music is nicely done. It varies a little so that it’s always at a comfortable level, and keeps a sexy style as well.

Borderline False Advertising; There isn’t a cast list on the cover, but Wendy Devine, Eric Masterson, and Joelean are all featured in pictures on the cover. All three of them made me interested in this release, and I was very disappointed to not see them in the movie. Because of this, I’m penalizing the overall score a half point.

Menus: The main menu is extremely basic, and gives you a choice between watching the movie and Sinclair’s website.

The Feature

Currently, we live in a culture that’s fairly negative sexually. Yes, it’s getting better in many ways, but it’s still hard to talk about sex in most places. Due to this attitude, the Sinclair Institute has put out several instructional movies. They’re developed as being a video textbook, and Sinclair advocates watching them with your partner so you can stop it and talk about different subjects as you go. This time around, the subject is shaving, and starts out with a historical and cultural talk about shaving before moving into demonstrations and more discussions.

Scene 1 - Chennin Blanc and Cheyne Collins

Jane moves on to a walk through featuring Chennin Blanc and Cheyne Collins (listed here as Wendy and Mike). They trim up Chennin, wash her up, and then lather her up before shaving. Jane discusses directions to shave as well as a little care for post-shaving to make things easier. Afterwards, Cheyne gives Chennin’s pussy a little tonguing and then lets her roll him over to suck his cock in return until the scene fades out.

This is a nice opening scene. Cheyne and Chennin do a nice job of keeping it fun and playful, and I like that he just trims her up rather than shaving her bald. I think this makes the scene a lot friendlier, as shaving women bald can sometimes give people a “young” feel that isn’t the best. This is a nice opening sequence, and the only thing missing was a pop. Even a faked internal pop would have helped things out nicely here.

Scene 2 - Pason and Kris Slater

Pason and Kris Slater, listed here as Chris and Judy, team up to demonstrate shaving the man. They talk about starting at the bottom of the scrotum to get the hard part out of the way and then moving up. Kris does most of the shaving while Pason kisses him and lies back to diddle herself as she watches him. She oils him up a little and gives his cock a kiss afterwards before taking it all in her mouth. She moves up to ride him before Kris lays her back to fuck her missionary style. Finally, the scene fades out.

This is another very nice scene. I love how they have Pason sit back and watch while Kris shaves himself before she comes up to orally approve of his work. There’s a very sexy feel with plenty of chemistry here, and once again my only complaint was the lack of any kind of pop.

Scene 3 - Julie and Billy

I’m not sure who this couple is, so I’ll go with the names their listed by here. Julie starts things out shaving old man Billy . Rather than shaving him bald, she gives him a trim that just removes part of the hair. When done she climbs up to ride him cowgirl style before the scene fades out.

This scene didn’t do much for me. Educationally, there’s nothing new really added here. Yes, “styling” rather than going for the complete shave is discussed, but it was already done in the first scene. The scene is much shorter, lasting less than five minutes, which seems like a blessing and a curse. It makes the scene more forgettable, but since neither person here was that attractive I’m not that upset about forgetting them.

Scene 4 - Lisa and Chris

This is another position where I’m going with the names given for the performers. Lisa finishes up shaving Chris clean before they start sixty-nining. Jane talks about different oral experiences when shaved, and how sixty-nining is worth another try after being shaved.

This is another fairly forgettable scene. It lasts under three minutes, and I think the tip that was given here could have been worked into one of the other scenes much better and strengthened them rather than making this a dud of a scene that brings the overall product down.

Scene 5 - Tony and Tanya

Although Tanya looks familiar, I’m not sure of her stage name so I’m going with the given names here. After Tony trims Tanya up down under, he goes down on her orally. He starts fucking her missionary style as Jane comments on how some positions feel different when shaved. Things cut back to Judy and Billy for another position demonstration before the camera fades out.

This is yet another forgettable scene. Once again I think this scene would have been better if it were canned and the information was included in one of the other scenes. This does not give the movie a high point to end on.

Dare to Bare is a pretty good instructional movie. It has some nice ideas, and definitely does a nice job of showing shaving in a fun and erotic light. I think the first two scenes do a great job of that, and sadly, I think the rest of the scenes bring the movie down. There’s some decent tips to the remaining three segments, but they just aren’t nearly as strong as the opening scenes. I would have much rather seen a Kris or Chennin shave their partner back and lengthen out the scenes to include a pop. Heck, make a fun comment along with it about moisturizing the area so that it fits in. Styling is mentioned, yet the only styles shown are trimming up around the edge. One of the scenes could have shown the girl not quite sure how much she wants taken off being taken closer and closer to nothing to show the change in looks and another could have shown somebody being given a playful “V”. Most anything would have been better than the remaining three scenes which basically didn’t add anything.

I have to disagree with some of Sinclair’s comments on shaving as well. First, they suggest using a shaving cream specially made for “the area”. I think this is going to be hard to find for many couples, and more than anything seems to be Sinclair trying to sell more of their own product. There’s a shaving mousse advertised at the end of the movie they make, and although I think that’s highly preferred to the shaving moose (which does a horrible job due to the lack of opposable thumbs), it still seems more of a marketing comment than anything. Personally, I’ve gotten some of my best shaves using regular hair conditioner. I always have in around the tub or shower, and I like that I can easily see any hairs that I missed rather than having it covered up by a little extra dollop of shaving cream. I was also disappointed that they didn’t mention a good razor. I can definitely tell the difference between a cheap disposable razor and something like a Mach 3 to the point that I’ve actually went several days past when I knew I needed a trim because I didn’t have a good razor with (and yes, I was too cheap to but another). Finally, I have to disagree with their male shaving suggestion of starting at the bottom of the scrotum. Yes, it’s nice to get the hard stuff out of the way, but when you’re starting out you’re going to be nervous. Start where it’s easy so that you can get your confidence up. The last thing you want to do is nick yourself, and if you do it’s a lot easier on the mind to do it around the jewels than on the jewels! For other perspectives, there are several threads on shaving in the that you can look through, as well as asking questions of your own. Dare to Bare is a decent movie about shaving that just doesn’t quite do it.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many of the Sinclair Institute’s DVDs can be found online for between about $13 and $28 with a few stores offering them at the lower end. Rent this one or pick it up cheap if you’re interested. There’s some decent information, but I think it also lacks a little. The technical aspects are nicely done, but there isn’t any care given to the extras.

Note to Sinclair Intimacy Institute: It’s great to see you focusing on things like this with your videos. In the future, if the features are this short, please consider releasing them as double or triple features. As is, I think many people who might be interested are going to look at the price tag, then the length, and then look for something else.
