Synopsis:
Jimmy, who was a friend of Peter Magnum and Mike in the past, gets released from prison for murdering Mike, a crime he claims he didn't commit. Jimmy tries to get his money from his old girlfriend and ends up being set up by past acquaintances. Peter Magnum tries to get to the bottom of everything, past and present, that is going on.

Video/Audio:
Dangerous Obsession is presented in a full frame, 1.33:1, aspect ratio. This looks like it is the original aspect ratio for the film. Dangerous Obsession looks like it was shot on video and not on film. This presentation of the film is in good shape. There are few to no picture blemishes present. The color levels are good and the images are sharp.

The available audio track is an English 2.0 Stereo track. There are no other language selections available and there are no subtitle options available. The music doesn't interfere with spoken dialog during the film.

Special Features:
Dangerous Obsession is a two disk set, disk one has the feature film and the trailers on it and disk two has the Behind the Scenes footage on it. There are seven chapter stops for the film, one for each of the main sex scenes. Available trailers are for Blonde in Black Leather, Fallen Angels, Naked Angels, Blonde Fury, Daughters of the Dragon and Jade Goddess. Unlike earlier New Era disks that I have seen, the trailers on this disk are all on one track with chapter stops at the beginning of each one so you can no longer choose which previews you wish to view easily. Also, unlike earlier New Era disks, there is no preview for the feature film. It's too bad they removed this feature since I liked it. The Behind the scenes footage is a giant 59 minute feature that goes into great depth into the making of the feature film. Unfortunately there are no chapter stops in the footage so if you want to go back to a point you have to remember the timing of it. For a special feature this big it would have been a good choice to have put in a few chapter stops for easy navigation through it. Main Menus Translated into Five Languages is exactly what it states, the menus are translated only, the film still plays with the English language track. The menus are also only translated on disk one. Disk two has no menu language options and is in English.

For a two disk Limited Edition, the special features presented here are very weak. The only feature that relates to the film is the Behind the Scenes Footage, which is also essentially the only special feature available on the disk. Although the feature is well done and longer than on most disks, this alone does not make a good limited edition set.

Review:
In the beginning of the film it opens with a very promising black and white lead in. Unfortunately after that point, the film breaks down. Much of the beginning of the film is a combination of the current time and past events. Throughout the film, events happening in the current time and sex scenes are in color and events happening in the past are in black and white. It becomes difficult at times to follow the time line and much of the first half of the film seems muddled. After the first half the film the time becomes mostly in the present and goes on to a nice finish. It probably would have been better to have used different colored filters on the camera for the different past time periods instead of black and white for all of them. Although the film features character Peter Magnum, this is not part of the Jade Goddess series.

Like all of Bob Chinn's films that I have seen, this film is beautifully photographed. Unfortunately, this film is a far cry from Chinn's classic adult films. The poor plot is almost nonexistent in the beginning and is relatively well done in the end. The sex scenes are your average adult fare, mostly male/female scenes with a nice male/two female scene at the end. A very good job was done with the make up used in the film as well. The music used doesn't sound like your standard adult film music and is a nice change.

The cast is decent looking, unfortunately one attractive actress has very visible stretch marks on her breasts which took away from her scenes. Most to the cast has a decent acting ability and does a good job with the material they are given. As I have stated in the past, I don't think that Lee Stone has any acting ability. His character is wooden and monotone and I think his part would have been far better given to someone else.

The Money Shot:
After a poor first half, the film picks up and ends up with a very decent second half. Due to the plot problems I have trouble recommending this film to anyone. If you are patient and are willing to watch this film twice it will be worth your time. Don't be fooled by the limited edition tag on the case and feel like you have to pick it up fast. There are few special features on the disk, nothing to justify calling it a limited edition and probably on the regular edition, when released, the only change will be a shortened behind the scenes feature. I definitely don't recommend this film to anyone who doesn't like plot based adult entertainment.
