Crush, The (Falcon) Review

First Word: I wanted to see this video to watch Daniel Montes and see why the scene between Colby Taylor and Travis Wade won a GayVN award for best couples scene.

The Story: Colby Taylor and Travis Wade play former high-school buddies who have not seen each other in a while. Colby is gay and has invited Travis to his place to come out to him. It turns out Colby has also been harboring a crush on his friend.

Scene 1: Colby watches as Travis is dropped off and imagines Travis approaching the house with no clothes on. This clues us in to Colby's thoughts. While they look through a yearbook and reminisce, Colby starts to say something when Travis mentions the time Colby made out with a chick on Lovers' Lane. Colby uses the opportunity to confess what really interested him that night. It seems Colby got the jitters before he kissed his date (played by Travis Wade's friend Crystal Diamond) and got out of the car to take a leak. While whipping out his dick he spies Daniel Montes and Christian Taylor making out in a nearby red convertible, and without realizing it he starts to jerk himself off. Daniel and Christian notice Colby watching them and share a mutual look that suggests they're going to give Colby a show. And they do. This scene is highly erotic as Daniel and Christian progress from kissing to foreplay (mutual sucking and Daniel rimming and fingering Christian) to fucking, with Daniel penetrating Christian first doggy-style and then with Christian riding cowboy. Daniel is the hard-bodied, gorgeous Spaniard who graces the cover (even though the story has nothing to do with him). The commentary notes this is Daniel's first ever video scene with someone else, and he shows no signs of being inexperienced. Christian pops while riding cowboy, and Daniel has to flinch to avoid getting hit on the face, then Daniel sits on the back of the convertible to slowly jerk his uncut piece and drop a thick load onto Christian's shoulder (Christian looks as if he wants it on his face but turns away). Colby also ejaculates, which the camera catches nicely from below.

Likes/Dislikes: I loved this scene. Although it was shot at night, the lighting is perfect with just a tint of blue to give it a serene feeling. I liked the way Daniel and Christian complement each other, with Daniel the tall and dark with a dick that is long, thick and hard, and Christian the blond with a bubble butt. I liked the realism of the encounter, especially when Daniel smirks after failing to unroll the condom onto his dick and turning it around to put it on properly (though he has inadvertently contaminated the outer surface of the condom by doing so). Also, the way Christian grimaces as he is initially penetrated is so preferable to the practice of cutting right to the anal action in progress. Daniel displays a nice hip-rolling motion as he's buried deep, which unfortunately is quickly abandoned for a motion and angle that show the penetration. Also, several shots show Colby in the background, so you know his jerking off and the fucking weren't scenes shot separately and spliced together. The things I didn't care for were the weak oral action and the way Christian pretended he was going to get a facial. Come on, Christian, I saw you in The American Way, so I know you're capable of a good face-washing.

Scene 2: Colby admits to being gay, and Travis freaks. He decides to take a walk, and he meets Tuck Johnson, another old buddy. They skip rocks together before Travis moves on. A little while later Travis spies Tuck sucking both Cameron Fox and Scott Davis, who are standing on the tailgate of a pickup truck. At first Travis gets a look of disgust on his face as he hides among the trees, but the next time we see him he has a big smile (he is seen several times during the scene, and he becomes very interested in the action). Scott and Cameron both have big dicks, the heads of which Tuck manages to get in his mouth simultaneously. Otherwise, his oral talents are not all that great. Then we see Tuck on his back with Scott face-fucking him and Cameron sucking Tuck while also fingering him. Cameron deep-throats Tuck, whose dick has an odd, ballistic shape (wide at the root, tapering to a rather small head). A jump cut shows Cameron fucking Tuck in an enthusiastic missionary position as Cameron sucks Scott. Scott moves behind Cameron to form a fuck chain, and the commentary notes this is the first time Cameron, who is a great top, bottoms on video. Cameron provides all the motion, though Scott withdraws and re-inserts several times (nice). We see a brief (about 5 seconds) clip of Cameron on his back getting fucked again by Scott, then the scene ends with the best position yet: Cameron fucking Tuck doggy style as Tuck is face-fucked again. This action is shown from several great angles. Tuck is hard the whole time being fucked and provides a no-hands cumshot after Cameron picks up the pace driving his ass, then Scott lets the cum fly over Tuck's shoulder and Cameron withdraws and has a very vocal orgasm as he coats Tuck's balls.

Likes/Dislikes: The anal action of this scene is great, especially for a 3-way. The cumshots were as great as those in the preceding scene. The weakness of this scene is a typical problem in Falcon features, and that is their pigeon-holing of models into roles. Tuck has the smallest dick here, so he's the bottom, and according to "the rules" he must do most of the sucking. But Cameron clearly has the best talent among these three, so why are we shown only a couple minutes of Cameron's extraordinary sucking and several minutes of Tuck's rather ordinary ability? Also, although I'd rather see Cameron fucking, I thought it was nice showing him getting fucked. But why show such a small clip of him on his back? If you're going to show some action, let us have a good look at it. And I'm supposed to believe that Travis goes from freaked-out homophobe to satisfied onlooker in such a short time?

Scene 3: Travis is sleeping nude on a bed, and Colby enters the room with thoughts of touching him. But Travis startles Colby by rolling over suddenly, and as Colby leaves the room we see Travis open his eyes and let out a big smile. He's toying with Colby. Colby goes to another room, where he pops in a porn video of Marcus Iron and Drew Damon. We are needlessly told this was the only scene not shot in Auburn, California. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if this is a scene Falcon had on the shelf and just threw into this video. If so, it was not a bad idea as it gives us a look at different types of models, namely, those that are allowed to keep their body hair. They both have furry chests (good thing for Drew--a nice donor site for the hair plugs he's obviously had inserted into his scalp). Both are handsome, Marcus in a puppy-dog kind of way, though he does have the ugliest facial contortions when he's having sex. Drew's main purpose it to supply a huge dick so that Marcus can display what an accommodating receptacle he is at both ends. While Marcus jerks off his odd-looking dick on a waterbed, Drew face-fucks him from a push-up position, and Marcus appears to take it all effortlessly. After brief kissing, Drew pounds Marcus and I mean pounds him, first missionary and then doggy with some withdrawals and reinsertions. After taking off his condom, he does the "wienie in the bun" routine before unloading and smearing his cum on Marcus's ass. Marcus rolls over and jerks off with a grip so tight it hurt me. We see Colby with a limp dick in his hand. Either he has too much on his mind with Travis, or he just didn't get into this scene.

Likes/Dislikes: Even if Colby didn't like this scene, I did, at least for a change of pace from the hairless models Falcon prefers. The action is harder, too. The scene is rather short, though (less than 10 minutes), and the cumshots did not live up to the standard already set in the video.

Scene 4: Colby is on the phone to his Mom when Travis enters the bedroom wearing only a towel. Colby hangs up, and Travis drops the towel, revealing his hard, curvy dick. Colby and Travis are the models who have appeared in more videos from the Falcon family than any other performer. They're both typical Falcon models (Daniel Montes, Matthew Rush and a couple others notwithstanding): ordinary looks, fit but unspectacular physiques, and thick erections. Colby has kind of a sleepy-eyed look and could pass as Tobey Maguire's older brother. Travis is beady-eyed and has a small mouth, but he's always a good top. Travis gets on top of Colby and they kiss. Travis works his way down to Colby's long dick, sucking the head and licking Colby's shaved balls. Colby returns the action, then they 69 and again suck each other separately while the other stands on the bed. Travis asks if he can fuck Colby, and Colby says only if he can fuck Travis. Travis says, "let's go one step at a time." As we watch from below, Travis slowly penetrates Colby in a missionary position as Colby jerks himself. Travis picks up the frequency and amplitude, using his shoulders and arms to hold back Colby's legs. Colby squirts a huge load onto his abs. They lie together awhile, and Travis expresses his desire at being with Colby but his reluctance at getting fucked by such a big dick. Colby promises to be gentle. Awww. Travis hops aboard cowboy, taking Colby deep but not moving much. Travis, hard all the time, leans back so Colby can move into a missionary position without withdrawing (really nice transition). As Colby slowly pumps, Travis shoots a huge load onto his chest. End of story.

Likes/Dislikes: Colby and Travis have great chemistry here, and if it's not obvious then listen to the commentary that accompanies the video and you'll hear Colby and Travis talk about it several times. I think the reason the scene won an award is because promoters and professional reviewers eat up the "top who bottoms for the first time on video" hype. Witness the award Falcon won for a similar scene involving Tom Chase a few years earlier, and all the recent press surrounding the "first times" of Billy Brandt and Jeremy Penn (and if Jeremy's forgettable scene with Roland Dane gets similar attention at this year's awards, you'll know this scenario is a primary criterion for the award). I don't know, but I really didn't care whether Travis Wade ever bottomed or not. Now if it were Matthew Rush, that would be a different story (hint, hint). Best couples scene of the year? It wasn't even the best of the video (that would be Scene 1).

Audio/Visual: The videography was up to Falcon's usual high standards, especially for the outdoor scenes. The music was not remarkable, which in my opinion means it was perfect (not distracting). The audio quality was also good, although there were times the sound during Scene 2 was muffled.

DVD Features: I think the reason this DVD was termed "Platinum Edition" was the option to view the video while listening to videographer Max Phillips interview Colby Taylor and Travis Wade. It was not so much a "behind-the-scenes" discussion as it was Max asking Colby and Travis questions along the lines of how they started in porn, why Travis wanted to do this video and why he wanted to do it with Colby (he realized during the filming of No Way Out that Colby was "the one"), and about some of their experiences in other videos. Although I did not find this as interesting or informative as the director's commentary in Out of Athens, I think commentary of any type is a major plus for DVD's and I'm glad they included it. Travis kept comparing this experience with his off-screen first time, when he and a fellow sailor traded BJs in the "helo tower," referring to both experiences as his "experimentals." What is he, a scientist? And since when is "experimental" a noun? That got as annoying as his Texas twang after a while. Other than the commentary, the only special features were trailers for Flashpoint and Possession, neither of which is available on DVD. I think I inadvertently found an easter egg, though--check Title 3 to see a compilation of the cumshots.

Bottom Line: Since the main purpose of this video was to build up to Scene 4, my opinion of that scene pretty much sums up my opinion of the video. Except for the lack of a gratuitous "controversial" scene, this is pretty typical Falcon fare: mostly ordinary-looking guys with big, hard dicks (8 of the 9 models have dicks that are "thick" by anybody's definition) in stand-out fucking scenes. But only 77 minutes? Falcon often makes the "quality over quantity" argument to justify their short videos. While the quality is good, it is not so superior that I recommend anyone buy this video. If any of the models is on your list of favorites, however, I would certainly recommend renting it. Be warned, though, that Cameron Fox and Marcus Iron have been in much better scenes. And I recommend Falcon immediately start work on "The Crush, Part 2" with Matthew Rush.
