Initial Expectations: Every now and then Homegrown does something right, but more often than not they just seem to come off as sloppily shot scenes rather than real amateur porn.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are nicely done. The audio has a few minor background noises, but for the most part is clear and sounds very nice. The video is presented in the full frame format and looks pretty good. There's a little digital breakdown, a little camera motion, and a touch of grain in places, but for the most part the movie is presented very nicely.

Disc Complaints: The authoring is a bit funky, which doesn't seem to be anything too unusual with Homegrown. Rather than having the entire movie on a title that makes it easy for viewers to skip to where ever they choose in the movie (which is extremely nice if you get tired of a scene and just want to jump ahead randomly or if you're viewing the movie later and want to go to a specific point in the movie) each scene has its own title, similar to how some studios run their TV shows on DVD. This style of authoring has thankfully gone the way of the dodo with most studios, but Homegrown and Naughty America seem to be sticking with it. Both studios are distributed by Pure Play and like Hundies (also distributed by Pure Play) there's only recently been an effort put into their extras (although Homegrown DVDs seem to use the same extras on all of their DVDs). Seeing that lack of care in the same areas for several studios being distributed by the same company I can't help but think that the problem and lack of care lies with Pure Play Media more than anything. With that little care coming from their releases maybe the customer should just be glad that they get a time stamp throughout the movie.

False Advertising: The boxcover lists a bonus scene as being on the DVD, but I couldn't find one anywhere. I'm deducting a half point from the overall score because of this. This false claim (along with the 90 minute running time claim) has been on so many Homegrown releases for so long that it looks more like a deliberate attempt to mislead consumers than it does an innocent or lazy oversight. They've also added a new false claim on the back cover stating ”Join our five delectable darlings...” which makes it sound like there might be one threesome in the movie (as it also states ”4 Scenes – 90 Minutes”, which also doesn't happen. I'm deducting another half point from the overall score due to this false claim as well (not that I actually believed there would be five girls in the movie due to Homegrown's track record when it comes to honest cover claims).

Menus: There's only one menu, and it blends a simple background with text choices for extras and clips from each scene to let you jump to specific chapters. If you choose a scene, you're oddly taken shortly past the start of each scene rather than beginning at the start of the scene.

The Feature

Cream Pie 58 focuses on sex scenes that end with just that, an internal pop shot or “Cream Pie”. The scenes start with a variety of action to lead into the main event, and then close with the cream pie finish.

The editing is a bit choppy at times and there is a little digital breakdown and some grain in places, but nothing that really interferes with the action. Perhaps most important in a scene like this is that the cream pie is nicely captured and leaves no doubt as to whether or not it's real. This is a surprisingly good scene to start out the movie.

This is a nice scene, but the cream pie and the amateur aspect are both a bit questionable.

This is a hot and fun scene, which is nothing new with Tara and Code. I've really enjoyed this couple's series over at Shot At Home, and they continue the show quite nicely here. There's a very fun feeling with plenty of tease and chemistry, and it gives the entire scene a very natural feeling. Sadly there is a few small editing cuts and not a lot of cum as Code admires her which leaves me doubting the cream pie slightly. This is a hot scene, but despite how much I've enjoyed Tara and Code in the past I can't help but have a little doubt about the cream pie here due to the editing cuts.

This is a pretty good final scene. Once again there's plenty of chemistry and the action is captured far better than I'd normally expect for an amateur scene. Of course, it also appears that Emilee has been in plenty of professional porn scenes before this one was every shot or released which combined with the camera work gives this scene a pretty professional feeling. Once again the cream pie also left me with plenty of doubt. The volume looked real, but due to the amount of editing around it I couldn't help but be a bit doubtful. This is a hot scene, but I can't help but doubt both the cream pie and amateur aspect of it.

Cream Pie 58 is an enjoyable movie with a few faults. The biggest of these faults is that I can't help but doubt the cream pies in most of the scenes. The volume appears real in each of them, but due to the editing cuts around them the only cream pie I had 100% confidence in was Nikki's opening cream pie. My other “complaint” about the release is that the performers never seem like amateurs. Nikki is the only girl in the movie that I was unfamiliar with, and when I checked the IAFD on some of the others I saw over a year's experience in some cases. Granted, the cast did do a great job and you never had any of the camera mugging or avoidance that you do in some amateur releases, but it also never made this one feel like a true amateur release. Yes, I'll admit that Homegrown normally gives me a feeling of sloppiness than it does an amateur movie, but there's normally a bit of the action that feels like the people in front of the camera aren't too used to it. All that said, Cream Pie 58 left me surprisingly satisfied. Yes, the cream pies left me with doubt and everybody involved seemed to have a little too much experience to call this an “amateur” movie, but it all worked together nicely and left me enjoying every scene despite them not being quite what they were supposed to be. Cream Pie 58 will probably leave a bit to be desired for cream pie or amateur porn purists, but it's still a very enjoyable ride with plenty of sweetness to be found inside.

The Extra Stuff

The extras are the same extras one will find on most other Homegrown releases. Trailers are included for many of Homegrown's previous releases as well as a few of their upcoming releases. They nicely let you see who's in each scene and give you several clips from each movie, but unfortunately also lump all of the trailers under two chapters so that you can't skip a title easily if you've already seen it or aren't interested in it. There's also weblinks and a blooper reel.

The blooper reel lasts about twelve and a half minutes. Unlike most blooper reels which actually contain bloopers from the movie on the DVD, this is a completely generic blooper reel that spans the entire range of Homegrown's releases. It spans so many movies that it's even organized into areas such as bodily functions. There's a few chuckles here, but it's not nearly as good as it might have been if it featured clips from this movie and odds are if you've checked out any other Homegrown releases you've already seen it.

Currently, many Homegrown DVDs can be found online for between about $13 and $25 with a few stores offering them near the low end. At the low end this one's a good buy. No, the performers never seem like amateurs and the cream pies left me with some doubt as to their authenticity, but the sex has plenty of chemistry and is nicely captured. The technical aspects are above average, but as usual with Homegrown and Pure Play releases, the extras are recycled and don't deliver what's advertised. This is a hot release that could have been even better with more honesty on the cover.
