COUSINS was one of the best of William Higgins’ pre-condom videos. Then it was one of the finest gay porn films ever made. Today in its DVD release it remains a very fine film indeed.

The film opens with Billy Gant and his parents coming to visit cousin Matt Ramsey and his parents. Billy was a very cute blond that I don’t think was in any other film. Matt Ramsey did quite a few gay films before moving to straight porn where he used the name Peter North. (One can still buy a Peter North ejaculating penis. No, I do not own one!) The sleeping arrangements put the two boys together and, after a midnight skinny dip in the pool, Matt goes to sleep. Billy is not asleep and he very carefully removes his cousin’s briefs. The extras feature a bonus scene from the film SCORE with Ray Harley and Blake Harper. (A scene with two bears is an odd extra for viewers who bought a twink flick.) I would have given COUSINS a much higher rating if it weren’t for the fact that some of the scenes are very poorly lit. Higgins used natural lighting for his exterior scenes and as a result some of the action is often obscured. The college guys’ orgy where Matt is fucked is one example; and when Chris is sucking Leo’s cock in the back of the truck is another. But it was great to see this film again, and Catalina is very smart in releasing these golden oldies onto DVD. Even with its visual flaws, COUSINS still manages to lift the spirit and bring about a catharsis.
