PREFACE:
I've never seen a Marc Dorcel production, but from what I hear they are rife with beautiful women, great tease, and relatively tame sex.  I can certainly get behind beautiful women, there simply isn't enough great tease in modern pornography, and after all my recent viewings of more intense and rough material, I'm definitely itching to get back to the basics.  Variety is the spice of life after all, and even if this production proves to be less enthusiastic than I generally gravitate toward, simple beauty and aesthetics is sometimes just what the doctor ordered.

INTRODUCTION:
The Cost of Lust is the English equivalent of the original French title, Le Prix de la Luxure.  It features a woman that I've heard a lot about but never seen in action: Laure Sainclair.  Although I hear she's not keen on facials, I also hear that she's a gorgeous creature who performs well.  Since this is all new to me, I haven't much more to say except that I'm really looking forward to watching some beautiful, well dressed women with a little hardcore sex thrown in for good measure.

ALTERNATE OPINIONS:
The only other review of this title I was able to locate is none other than Drew Black's review here on ADT written no less than 3 years ago.  Obviously review age doesn't matter and I always encourage those interested to read as many opinions of a title as possible.

Opening Credits:  The movie opens with some immediate heavy petting between Laure Sainclair and "John" (played by David Perry).  They are in a nice outdoorsy location sitting on a wooden bridge .  They are both wearing coats, and Laure is wearing gloves.  I'm pretty impressed right away with the amount of fairly authentic kissing that they both engage in.  Music plays underneath as the movie's credits appear. Unfortunately, a tiny bit of kissing is all we get before the movie properly begins.

SCENE 1:
OCEANE & DAVID PERRY
The Girl
Oceane is a very attractive honey blonde with wavy curls and a nice body.  She has largish breasts and nice legs and they are all shown off nicely here in a black dress, full length stockings and high heels..

The Action
Oceane & David Perry are in a rather nice house, and David Perry tries to convince Oceane that his wife won't be home for a long time.  He tells her to relax and that they'll have some fun even as he's groping her and actively undressing her while she expresses her reservations.  She gives in soon enough though, and before long, both of them are kissing each other as Oceane's clothes slowly make their way off her quite satisfactory body.  By the time the music starts playing, Oceane is lying on the bed with only a pearl necklace (a real one, not a porn one...), a pair of tan stockings, and some black high heel shoes on.  David Perry finally strips himself and immediately sticks his cock into her mouth.  Some decent doggie position and then missionary follows, and it's not long before this beauty is taking it up the ass.  Inevitably, David's wife (Laure Sainclair) arrives, confronts him, and then leaves.  The scene ends with nary a pop-shot to be found.

The Gist
Although this scene is very short, and probably shouldn't be considered as much more than set-up material, it did have it's points.  Oceane looked nice in her stockings and heels, but there just wasn't enough here for me to consider it a proper strokable sex scene..

Interlude: John (David Perry) tries to call his wife, but she won't answer the phone.  After his failed attempt, we see Laure in a room watching the television.  On it is an advertisement for Matalana--a voodoo princess who can "bring about all your most secret desires".  Laure is convinced easily enough and gives her a call.

In Matalana's lair (which is quite interestingly lit with very strong colors), Laure explains that she wants him to suffer, but she doesn't want to hurt him.  Matalana casts a spell on him, and Laure writes her a check for her trouble.  Apparently monetary payment isn't enough, however, and Matalana tells her that she must do what she says, and give herself to who she commands.  Laure's first sexual escapade, it seems will take place right there and then, as Matalana starts removing Laure's clothes.  Some brief (and I do mean BRIEF) pussy licking commences before the scene cuts away.

Freddie (Bruno Aissix) & John (David Perry) drive up to a building with Eva Falk in the car with them.  Freddie tells her that John needs a little pick-me-up and tells her that she should make love to him.  John raises a weak objection but by the time they're inside this brightly lit warehouse, John is all over her.  

SCENE 2:

The Action

The Action

This is another excellently captured, very interestingly lit, and hot sex scene with some fucking gorgeous women.  Again, by my tastes, though, we just aren't allowed to see enough.  Each position is exceedingly short, and this time we weren't even privileged enough to see a cum shot.  Its really too bad, cuz my cock is definitely hard, but my fist is shaking at the screen while I throw cuss words haphazardly in the direction of my television.

The Girl
Laure Sainclair has been duly mentioned, and let me just reiterate.  She is gorgeous.  Matalana on the other hand, doesn't really do much for me.  She looks to be black and has very large breasts and a very nice body.  Make no mistake, she's a worthy addition to this movie, and many will find much to like about her, but she just doesn't appeal to my personal tastes.

The Action

I found this to be surprisingly hot, and I don't usually go for girl/girl action.  Both girls look fantastic. They are naturally breasted and devoid of body paint, and that's been true of the whole movie thus far.  I think this is worth mentioning because it is so frustratingly rare to see in today's porn.  Unfortunately however, the scene ends way too soon.

The Action
Immediately Matalana is seen mounting David Perry in the RCG position.  Despite my general lack of interest in her, I do admit that she looks rather hot here.  Eventually she also mounts him CG and he cums on her face a short while later.  She tells him to sign a contract and that's all there is to it.

The Gist
There's not much gist--Matalana doesn't do it for me, it was frighteningly short, and it's not really worth further comment.

PRODUCTION QUALITY:
Aside from my now tired rantings about the brevity of the scenes, I was extremely pleased with the overall quality of the production.  The lighting particularly was something I found extremely interesting.  It was very bold, with very strong, mood-setting colors, but at the same time, it flattered the performers and that is a damn impressive feat in the world of porn.  The lighting choices made were not necessarily choices that I would have made, but that just added to my enjoyment, and I found it very interesting and quite enjoyable from a designer's standpoint.  Beyond that, I thought the camera work was extremely good, and the women look unbelievably fantastic in fabulous clothes, and great makeup.  There are some attractive men here to boot.  Finally, as I've said, I think many modern porn directors would do well to study the production sensibilities in this film.  The bold lighting and perfect makeup won't be to everyone's liking, but there are lessons to be learned here about how to compliment the performers and action with relatively modest production tools at your disposal.

DVD QUALITY:
The video transfer is quite good.  The disc itself suffers a tad in that the menus are lifeless and there aren't many extras, but if anything needs to be good, it's the transfer, and Wicked did a good job.  The audio is 100% dubbed, but unlike most of Private's offerings, this is actually done fairly well.  I dislike dubbing in porn out of principle, but I've certainly heard worse. 

EXTRAS:
There are very few extras to speak of on this disc.  There is a photo gallery, and brief biographies of three of the performers.  That about covers it.

OVERALL:
Let me just say that now, at the end of this movie, I fully appreciate the hype surrounding Laure Sainclair.  She isn't the most enthusiastic woman... and it's hard to say that there was much genuine emotion behind all the dubbed dialogue and moans, but make no mistake--Laure is a gorgeous girl, and she was showcased flawlessly here.  I dare say, so was everyone else.  This was eye candy at its best from my perspective, and if you're a fan of beautiful stocking clad women having non-extreme hardcore sex, look no further.  My biggest complaint, and for me it's a big one, was that every one of the scenes was far too brief.  I would have preferred to see half the number of scenes if they were each at least twice their original length.  The action that was there was great, and very nicely captured, but as it was, it truly amounted to a disc full of quickies that really didn't offer me the chance to just sit and enjoy them.  That said, more Marc Dorcel titles will most assuredly find their way to my DVD player--and when you're in the mood for well executed aesthetic production, you could certainly do a lot worse than picking up The Cost of Lust.
