Initial Expectations: This has been a surprisingly good series from Homegrown. Although one can't trust what they claim you get on their boxcover, I still go into this series with a bit of hope.

Initial Reaction: It's okay, but nothing too special.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are okay. The audio has a decent balance, but it also has a fair amount of background noise. The video is presented in a mix of full frame format and non-anamorphic widescreen footage. There's a touch of grain in places, as well as inconsistent lighting, camera motion, and footage that seems like it was just left on a tripod. There's nothing too impressive about the technical aspects here.

Disc Complaints: The authoring is a bit funky, which doesn't seem to be anything too unusual with Homegrown. Rather than having the entire movie on a title that makes it easy for viewers to skip to where ever they choose in the movie (which is extremely nice if you get tired of a scene and just want to jump ahead randomly or if you're viewing the movie later and want to go to a specific point in the movie) each scene has its own title, similar to how some studios run their TV shows on DVD. This style of authoring has thankfully gone the way of the dodo with most studios, but Homegrown and Naughty America seem to be sticking with it. Both studios are distributed by Pure Play and like Hundies (also distributed by Pure Play) there's only recently been an effort put into their extras (although Homegrown DVDs seem to use the same extras on all of their DVDs). Seeing that lack of care in the same areas for several studios being distributed by the same company I can't help but think that the problem and lack of care lies with Pure Play Media more than anything. With that little care coming from their releases maybe the customer should just be glad that they get a time stamp throughout the movie.

False Advertising: The boxcover lists a bonus scene as being on the DVD, but I couldn't find one anywhere. I'm deducting a half point from the overall score because of this. This false claim has also been on so many Homegrown releases for so long that it looks more like a deliberate attempt to mislead consumers than it does an innocent or lazy oversight.

Disc Problems: I had a lot of problems getting the first scene to play. I tried no less than six (and probably closer to ten) times to get the movie to play from the start, and couldn't get through the first five minutes without it locking up. Watching the movie scene by scene worked if I skipped the first scene, and I was finally able to watch most of the first scene once I started it in the middle of the scene rather than the beginning. This is more than annoying, and I'm deducting a half point from the overall score because of it.

Menus: There's only one menu, and it blends a simple background with text choices for extras and clips from each scene to let you jump to specific chapters. If you choose a scene, you're oddly taken shortly past the start of each scene rather than beginning at the start of the scene.

The Feature

Homegrown's Cherries series captures barely legal girls for their first time in front of the camera, or at least without much experience there. The scenes vary between having a touch of a story to open and just chatting with the girls and then move on with the action.

Cute blonde Candy stops by Damon's place to ask if she can use his internet because she's new to the neighborhood and waiting for an important e-mail without her internet up yet. She comments on how many dildos he has around while she checks her e-mail, and leans that he's the local porn guy. Candy doesn't think she could do porn, but soon after she's posing for him and showing off her D-cup boobs. This is a pretty good scene. Candy is darn cute and her trash talk definitely kicked up the scene for me. She puts out some very nice energy, and has nice chemistry with Damon. This is easily the best scene in the movie, and the only thing that held it back much for me was the technical problems my player had with it.

Dark haired October starts her scene in a little naughty schoolgirl outfit with a plaid skirt and tied off button down shirt showing off a little and talking about some of her wilder sexual experiences. She says that she's never taken on two guys at once but would be interested to, and soon after a guy is brought in who she kisses and then drops down to blow with his permission. The action cuts to them fucking missionary style with plenty of creamy lube flowing out of her pussy before she gets up to ride him in each of the cowgirls. A second guy walks in as the action cuts to them fucking doggie style so October can suck a cock while getting fucked, and naturally the guys trade back and forth between fucking her and getting blown. This is a pretty good scene. October is decent looking and gets into the sex pretty well. She puts out some decent energy and never seems to pay too much attention to the camera. The guys don't really bring anything to the scene and seem to be as interested in hiding from the camera as they are in October. This is a decent scene.

Brunettes Drew and Daphne lay back on a bed with one holding a vibrator on the other's pussy. Skuzzy looking Tim comes in to join them with a few kisses before having them suck his cock. The darker brunette seems more concerned with her vibe, but can't handle it and comes over to help the lighter brunette suck Tim's cock. This scene didn't do a lot for me. There wasn't much chemistry around the group and it seemed to go on way too long without really offering anything special. Of course, I'm not a big fan of oral sex scenes which doesn't help anything here, but the main problem is that this scene doesn't seem to know what it wants to be and ends up feeling like it's settling for being an oral scene. I just couldn't get into this scene.

Jay didn't bring too much to the scene and although Lexi shows a bit of potential the scene also makes it seem like Jay isn't the guy to really bring it out of her. This is a decent scene that showed even more potential for Lexi.

Cherries 69 is an okay fresh talent release. Although the girls are normally cute and put a bit of effort into their scenes, the camera work is fairly sloppy throughout and ends up holding the scenes back so they normally hover around the average mark. Candy's opening scene was easily my favorite, and I can't help but wish that I could have watched all of it nicely rather than trying to coax my player to read it (and I can't remember the last time I couldn't get it to take a disc). Cherries 69 is a pretty average amateur porn release.

The Extra Stuff

Trailers are included for many of Homegrown's previous releases as well as a few of their upcoming releases. They nicely let you see who's in each scene and give you several clips from each movie, but unfortunately also lump all of the trailers under two chapters so that you can't skip a title easily if you've already seen it or aren't interested in it. There's also weblinks and a blooper reel.

The blooper reel lasts a little under twelve minutes. Unlike most blooper reels which actually contain bloopers from the movie on the DVD, this is a completely generic blooper reel that spans the entire range of Homegrown's releases. It spans so many movies that it's even organized into areas such as different background noises. There's a few chuckles here, but it's not nearly as good as it might have been if it featured clips from this movie.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many Homegrown DVDs can be found online for between about $13 and $25 with a few stores offering them near the low end. Aim low for this one. There's nothing too bad about this release, but there's also nothing special about it either. The sex is okay, as are the technical aspects. As usual with Homegrown (and often Pure Play distributed DVDs), the extras leave plenty to be desired and doesn't even deliver what the cover claims. This DVD doesn't quite make the average mark.

Note to Homegrown: If you're going to advertise something on your covers, please include it in your releases. The misleading claims on your boxcovers have been there so long it looks like you're deliberately trying to mislead consumers.
