Initial Expectations: This series has been hit or miss for me, and is often held back by Homegrown's deceptive cover claims and lack of care towards their overall DVD. I'm not expecting this one to be much different.

Initial Reaction: It almost makes it to the average mark sexually, but then everything else about the DVD drags it back.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are okay. The audio varies from being pretty average to leaving quite a bit to be desired due to some balance problems and a very intrusive background hiss. The video is presented in the full frame format and looks okay at best. In addition to not being overly clear, there's a bit of camera motion and a few lighting problems. As usual with Homegrown the technical aspects seem to mostly lack due to sloppiness and a lack of care towards the overall product.

Disc Complaints: The authoring is a bit funky, which doesn't seem to be anything too unusual with Homegrown. Rather than having the entire movie on a title that makes it easy for viewers to skip to where ever they choose in the movie (which is extremely nice if you get tired of a scene and just want to jump ahead randomly or if you're viewing the movie later and want to go to a specific point in the movie) each scene has its own title, similar to how some studios run their TV shows on DVD. This style of authoring has thankfully gone the way of the dodo with most studios, but Homegrown and Naughty America seem to be sticking with it. Both studios are distributed by Pure Play and like Hundies (also distributed by Pure Play) there's only recently been an effort put into their extras (although Homegrown DVDs seem to use the same extras on all of their DVDs). Seeing that lack of care in the same areas for several studios being distributed by the same company I can't help but think that the problem and lack of care lies with Pure Play Media more than anything. With that little care coming from their releases maybe the customer should just be glad that they get a time stamp throughout the movie.

False Advertising: The boxcover lists a bonus scene as being on the DVD, but I couldn't find one anywhere. I'm deducting a half point from the overall score because of this. This false claim has also been on so many Homegrown releases for so long that it looks more like a deliberate attempt to mislead consumers than it does an innocent or lazy oversight.

Menus: There's only one menu, and it blends a simple background with text choices for extras and clips from each scene to let you jump to specific chapters. If you choose a scene, you're oddly taken shortly past the start of each scene rather than beginning at the start of the scene.

The Feature

Homegrown's Cherries series captures barely legal girls for their first time in front of the camera, or at least without much experience there. The scenes vary between having a touch of a story to open and just chatting with the girls and then move on with the action.

Redhead Kitty starts out on the bed in a dark green lacy tank top and a red plaid skirt talking about liking rougher sex and cocksucking before bending over to let Damon spank her ass. This is a hot little scene. Kitty is pretty hot with a nice natural body and looks like she's having a great time from start to finish in the scene. Damon does a good job making it a little rougher for her with plenty of spanking and hair pulling, and Kitty seems to love all of it. The action is pretty well captured and moves at a nice pace. This is a good scene to open the movie.

Linzi, in a pink plaid skirt, a tied off white top, knee high athletic socks, and a tie, stops in Alex's class, who's in a slightly naughty teacher outfit with her hair partially bleached, to learn that she's getting a D. Alexa lets her know that she knows a way Linzi can increase her grade, and soon after has her sitting in a chair to check out her tits and strip off her skirt. Linzi helps Alexa out of her top to suck her tits before sitting back on the desk to let Alexa work on her pussy with her tongue, fingers, and a toy. This is an okay at best scene. The schoolgirl opening was more than a little hokey, and neither girl had a style that did much for me. They seemed to be into each other okay, but it was never anything close to getting past the average mark. The scene was also held back horribly by an audio hiss so that even though there was a fair amount of dialogue in the scene, you could barely hear or understand any of it. This scene might have made it to the average mark, but that was it.

After a little talk with Korbin and covergirl Molly, who has highlighted hair, numerous tattoos, and a couple of fugly lip piercings, and how they hooked up for the scene, they start to strip each other down and kiss a bit. Korbin plays with her pussy as she eagerly sucks his cock, and Molly mixes in a few nice smiles and a touch of throat action as she works him over. Korbin moves on to fuck her missionary style as she sits on the edge of the bed before she sits up to kiss him as he fucks her. Korbin climbs up on the bed to fuck her missionary style before taking her from behind, and then lets her get up for a reverse cowgirl ride. She also lays on her side to take it before they return to fucking missionary style and finish up with a nice pop over Molly's tongue with her trying to lap it all up as it flows out.

This is a pretty hot scene that I just couldn't get into. Molly and Korbin have great chemistry together, and it looks like he puts out a good hard dick just like she wants it. That said, Molly's style was completely not my thing, and between her excessive tattoos and fugly lip piercings I had a hard time looking at her despite her obviously enjoying the sex and having what seemed like a nice personality. This is a good scene but I just couldn't get into it due to Molly's style.

Dirty blonde Rachel kicks back on a bed and talks about her first blowjob briefly before Woody arrives and lets her help him out of his pants. This is an okay at best oral scene. The only things that really set it apart from most of the other blowjob scenes out there is having a little sixty-nining mixed in and that it's rare you see a guy in blowjob scenes with a dick as small as Woody's. Rachel does a good job trying to work it over and does take a nice facial, but with a dick this small it's awfully easy to zone out as they play. This was a disappointing end to the movie.

Cherries 68 is a roller coaster ride of a fresh talent movie. Although I can't deny her look not working at all for me, I also can't deny that Molly turned out the best fuck in the movie with Rachel coming in at a respectable second. The other two scenes struggled to even get to the average mark and definitely left me wanting more. As usual with Homegrown the amateur aspect seems more like an excuse to be sloppy than anything, and definitely held the movie back for me. It was nice to see a bit more variety to the movie here with two straight scenes, a lesbian scene, and an oral scene, but with how much the lesbian scene and oral scene left to be desired variety wasn't necessarily a good thing. Cherries 68 had a couple flashes of hope, but also had slightly more pulling it down than bringing it up.

The Extra Stuff

Trailers are included for many of Homegrown's previous releases as well as a few of their upcoming releases. They nicely let you see who's in each scene and give you several clips from each movie, but unfortunately also lump all of the trailers under two chapters so that you can't skip a title easily if you've already seen it or aren't interested in it. There's also weblinks and a blooper reel.

The blooper reel lasts a little under twelve minutes. Unlike most blooper reels which actually contain bloopers from the movie on the DVD, this is a completely generic blooper reel that spans the entire range of Homegrown's releases. It spans so many movies that it's even organized into areas such as different background noises. There's a few chuckles here, but it's not nearly as good as it might have been if it featured clips from this movie.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many Homegrown DVDs can be found online for between about $13 and $25 with a few stores offering them near the low end. Rent this one first or aim low. The scenes are very hit or miss, and although there is a little really good sex there's also plenty of lackluster action. The technical aspects are weak and the extras are recycled and don't add a thing. This is a disappointing release.

Note to Homegrown: It's too bad your product can't live up to your reputation.
