The Short Story

Initial Expectations: Although most of Homegrown's releases have done little to impress me, the Cherries series sticks in my mind as being pretty darn good. I'm looking forward to this one.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects don't quite make it to the average mark. The audio is a little on the weak side with a faltering balance and a bit of background noise. The video is presented in the full frame format and isn't too impressive either. The picture is often slightly muddy, the lighting is slightly inconsistent, and there's a fair amount of camera motion.

Disc Complaints: The authoring is a bit funky, which doesn't seem to be anything too unusual with Homegrown. Rather than having the entire movie on a title that makes it easy for viewers to skip to where ever they choose in the movie (which is extremely nice if you get tired of a scene and just want to jump ahead randomly or if you're viewing the movie later and want to go to a specific point in the movie) each scene has its own title, similar to how some studios run their TV shows on DVD. This style of authoring has thankfully gone the way of the dodo with most studios, but Homegrown and Naughty America seem to be sticking with it. Both studios are distributed by Pure Play and like Hundies (also distributed by Pure Play) there's only recently been an effort put into their extras (although Homegrown DVDs seem to use the same extras on all of their DVDs). Seeing that lack of care in the same areas for several studios being distributed by the same company I can't help but think that the problem and lack of care lies with Pure Play Media more than anything. With that little care coming from their releases maybe the customer should just be glad that they get a time stamp throughout the movie.

False Advertising: In addition to overstating the running time of the movie, which I think has happened on every Homegrown release I've watched, the boxcover lists a bonus scene as being on the DVD which I couldn't find anywhere. I'm deducting a half point from the overall score because of this. These false claims have been on enough releases that I'm beginning to wonder if it's a case of somebody not doing their job or whether it's a deliberate attempt to mislead consumers.

Menus: There's only one menu, and it blends a simple background with text choices for extras and clips from each scene to let you jump to specific chapters. If you choose a scene, you're oddly taken shortly past the start of each scene rather than beginning at the start of the scene.

The Feature

Homegrown's Cherries series captures barely legal girls for their first time in front of the camera, or at least without much experience there. The scenes vary between having a touch of a story to open and just chatting with the girls and then move on with the action.

Cute dark haired “twenty” year old Tara starts off in a little purple sweater with jeans showing off her great natural tits and talking with the camera dude about being turned on by people watching her have sex before she strips down to her bra and panties and starts sucking his cock. She gives Tom plenty of tongue action as she works his cock and balls over, and loses her bra and pulls her hair back into a pony tail as she sucks him. Tara rides him in reverse and traditional cowgirl before letting Tom spoon her. She urges him on in doggie and missionary before the scene cuts to her down on her knees ready to take her first facial. Tom lets go with a short burst followed by a good burst that nails her in the forehead at almost the same instant the scene cuts out.

This is an okay scene. Tara's cute with a nice body, but she falls into the newbie trap, at least for me, of mugging the camera and internalizing her pleasure. It looks like she's getting into the scene, but she's distracted by the camera enough that she can't really let it out yet, and when she does the scene seems to cut to another position. It was definitely held back by cutting out at the start of the facial as well as having an odd feeling due to Tom holding something in front of his face as they spooned. Tara had the potential to turn out a great scene, but instead this one ended up as a pretty average newbie scene.

Cute bottle blonde Misty talks about being a little nervous before getting up on the bed, pulling off her shirt, and bending over to pull down her jeans to show a great ass and play with her holes. She moves in to help Lincoln out of his pants so she can start sucking him, and happily sucks and strokes him as she lays on her stomach on the bed. Misty gives his cock a slap before letting him fuck her doggie style, and mixes in a bit more head as he fucks her. Lincoln moves on to fuck her bald beaver missionary style and lets her suck him a little more before fucking her doggie style. Finally Misty sucks Lincoln to a decent spray over her face with most of it hitting her in the eyes. Afterwards she wipes up with a towel as he laughs at her before they share a few comments.

This is an okay scene. Misty is cute, but oddly never takes her bra off to let you see her tits. She gets into the cocksucking very well and looks to enjoy the sex as well. Lincoln provided a good hard cock for the scene, but his comments were rather distracting and didn't really add a lot to the scene. Misty had some great potential, but there was quite a bit about the scene that left it by the wayside.

Brunette Chassitie chats with Jay in jeans and a little black top that doesn't come close to hiding the ink across her chest. They head out to a car where they chat about why she's shooting a porn scene and check her out as she shops for something sexy. Chassitie shows off in her new outfit when they get back including a great natural rack and a nice big butt before playing with herself on a couch. She moves forward and helps Jay out of his pants to suck his cock while giving him some great eyes and a bit of action from her pierced tongue before moving up to ride him cowgirl style. Chassitie also lays back for Jay to fuck her missionary style before giving it up doggie style. She gets back on top for another cowgirl ride and lays back for a little more missionary work before opening wide for an okay pop in and around her mouth. Afterwards she lets Jay watch as she washes up in the shower.

This is a pretty hot scene. Chassitie is easily the best looking girl in the movie being cute with a great body, and I really like her opening tease. She gets into the sex nicely and puts out good vocals while also having a feeling like she's not used to being in front of the camera. This is one of my favorite scenes in the movie.

Dirty blonde Jamie starts the final scene in a black and white striped shirt with white panties on a mattress letting Tom check out her bald beaver. They talk about sex before Jamie gets right to showing what she can do sucking and stroking him. Jamie mixes in plenty of tongue action as she works Tom over before getting on top to ride him in each of the cowgirls. They spoon as Tom holds a pillow in front of his face and Jamie repeatedly tells him to give her more before moving on with some missionary work. They finish fucking doggie style before Tom gives Jamie a nice facial finish.

This is another okay scene. Jamie is very average looking, but puts out some good energy and I love how she isn't afraid to tell Tom to give her more. Once again Tom was the weak spot in the scene doing lame things like holding a pillow over his face as he fucked the girl with her asking for more as they fucked, but at least me managed a good pop to close the scene out. This is another decent scene that comes off as being nothing too special due to Jamie's extremely average look and Tom's not bringing much to the party.

Cherries 64 is an okay fresh talent movie. Although it was a bit hit or miss for me, I can see it really working for some people because it's pretty obvious that the girls in the movie haven't had sex in front of a camera before. This can always leave things a little rough for me, but since there's a certain charm with the true amateur movie I'm often willing to give it a try. Unfortunately, the guys here have enough porn under their belt that they hold back some of that amateur aspect and make some of the little camera shakes and other technical blunders that one often looks past with amateur porn something that's a little harder to look past. Chassitie easily takes the prize for turning out the best scene with Misty coming in a close second, while Tara mugs the camera horribly and comes in at the opposite end. Cherries 64 is an okay fresh talent movie, but nothing too special in any way.

The Extra Stuff

The extras are the same extras one will find on most other Homegrown releases. Trailers are included for many of Homegrown's previous releases as well as a few of their upcoming releases. They nicely let you see who's in each scene and give you several clips from each movie, but unfortunately also lump all of the trailers under two chapters so that you can't skip a title easily if you've already seen it or aren't interested in it. There's also weblinks and a blooper reel.

The blooper reel lasts about twelve and a half minutes. Unlike most blooper reels which actually contain bloopers from the movie on the DVD, this is a completely generic blooper reel that spans the entire range of Homegrown's releases. It spans so many movies that it's even organized into areas such as bodily functions. There's a few chuckles here, but it's not nearly as good as it might have been if it featured clips from this movie and odds are if you've checked out any other Homegrown releases you've already seen it.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many Homegrown DVDs can be found online for between about $13 and $25 with a few stores offering them near the low end. Aim low here. Not only doesn't the movie last a half hour, but there's nothing overly memorable about the movie. The technical aspects don't quite make the average mark and the extras are all recycled from other Homegrown releases. This release doesn't quite make the average mark.

Note to Homegrown: A little effort could go a long way with your DVDs, starting with a little care towards the overall DVD by not constantly recycling your extras.
