Let's start in Budapest, with a pretty 18-year-old brunette bar
worker. Her eyes are bright and her attitude is likewise, but her
lank hair, terrible make-up and incongruous outfit of a leopard
print bra top and canary yellow trousers might cause a moment's
doubt. As always, Pierre has each girl check out some Private magazines
to gauge their reactions and to ask what sex acts they've tried.
Smiling Nora seems to have done it all, though Pierre might doubt
her, and she's keen to work for him.
One perpetual problem is the inadequacy of the translation, such
as when Nora's fantasies are related in Hungarian to the translator
(presumably Pierre's usual helper Gabriella). Only the French comments,
like Pierre's inane gag about doing it with a horse, are translated
in subtitles, and even those aren't complete. That's a minor issue,
as we can readily pick out that she fancies travelling to Australia,
and even more readily that she has a very sexy body, in great shape,
which she happily shows off.
Nora's style has been transformed when we see her next, in a photo
shoot with Richard and Franck that takes place in an antique-filled
house. There's little insight gained - just some coverage of them
in the usual poses. Oral, anal and double penetration feature before
the facial come shots. There's another photo shoot, similar fare,
except with the team of Soine and Deloin, and she looks even better
in a long ball gown and black stockings. Then we have some fun on
the set of Tatiana 3, with coverage of the creation of that fine
scene where Andrew Youngman takes on a now blonde Nora along with
Timea (AKA Laura Black?) and Suzanna. Lots of Nora's sex role is
featured, including anal and a shared come shot, but what's most
remarkable is seeing how the finished picture of a rural idyll in
Tatiana compares with the reality - lots of crew members and photographers
scuttling around, and even a family in their rowing boat scooting
past, looking somewhat bemused at the naked girls having their make-up

Joking aside, she says she's not worried but her face says otherwise.
She seems have a fair idea of what's expected of her and also seems
to think what she sees in the mags is perfectly normal. Pierre jokes
about how he's like the KGB while probing her - steady, just verbally
- about how she can dislike anal when she's never tried it. She
smiles shyly. When asked if she's a masochist, there's too little
response for Pierre to jump to the conclusion that she like to be
slapped around. She is, however, perfectly happy to strip off her
top, shorts and tights to reveal a pale but shapely body with fine,

In action in coverage of a pair of photo shoots, we first see Margareth
done up like a real teen princess/brat in a typical teenage bedroom
(East 17…remember them!) where she smiles sweetly before treating

her face and drips daintily from her button nose. Pierre then has

is full on but the models mainly hold poses during anal, double

Sex scene: The Gigolo
Sylvia (AKA Sylvia Sopia - groan if you know enough Magyar to get
it) is apparently Romanian but speaks fragmented French with Pierre
but seems to confirm his suggestion that she learned it at school
in Budapest. That's part of the problem: she just says "yes" or
"good" to everything, which exasperates Pierre. He uses a little
Magyar, French and English to try to make sure she understands what
he wants. She still says "yes" and smiles hopefully. It does seem
she's perfectly happy and up for it, readily stripping and adopting
the poses. She's done it before. Does her lack of underwear say
something? I don't know. Slim, pretty and ready to do it.
Sylvia looks very good and performs most impressively in an unfortunately
truncated version of her scene, shared with the sexy Joy Kiss, from
the Gigolo. I'd suggest the chance to see this pair in their fussy
clothes and sheer stockings, performing anal and double penetration
with some abandon, is better reason to get this Woodman classic
than to check the other aspect of the scene, i.e. JP Armand and
Yves Balliat camping it up as fashion designers, would you believe?

There's a notable difference in pretty brunette Regina's demeanour.

partly in English, partly by interpreter. She has experience of
around 10 movies, but only does anal in private. You can visualise
the "thinks" bubble over Pierre's head, with "We'll see about that!"

We go on set during the filming of The Pyramid to witness Pierre

Pierre issues constant instructions; with barely a single move left

mixed in, and it's quite strong and enjoyable too. Regina's womanly

What a delight it is to see the well-known face of Melanie (AKA
Melonia) lighting up the screen. At this stage, she's 20, a university
student wishing to become a primary school teacher. A translator
is on hand, but she speaks pretty good English, commenting "Very
interesting composition!" when asked about the pics in the Private
magazine! She's clearly keen to do the work but there's some interesting
insight into Pierre's MO as he chips away at the cracks of her resistance
to the idea of anal sex. She smiles broadly, and often, especially
when she mentions the notion of her fantasy and working with girlfriends
from the Ukraine (from whence she hails, though the caption says
"Russian"). She strips and shows her slim, trim figure, posing easily
with that lovely smile.
There's a sex scene set amid the roaring waves, tastefully lit by
evening sun, on a beautiful shore. Melanie couples with Alain Deloin,
including, as you may anticipate, anal sex, and a facial that threatens
to be ruined by the surging tide! A photo shoot follows, Melanie
looking as lush as the tropical location. There's some anal before
the guy (Dino Toscane, I think) comes on her body.
Suzan

You may be interested to know that the Magyar for "babysitter" is…"babysitter".
That's our Suzan, a 20-year-old blonde with a pleasant face, who
certainly opens up after somewhat nervously revealing she's been
with over 30 guys and tried a lot more naughty stuff that you might
have thought given her sweet rather than sexy demeanour. Interesting.
The magazines don't shock her, in fact she jokes about having done
it all - except for with animals - including lesbian sex, anal sex
and group experiences. It's a lively chat and she's a charming girl
with a great smile, not to mention a fine pair of natural knockers.

There's quite a transformation for the photo shoot, and I'm not
sure the heavy make-up and long wig are an improvement on her fresh,
natural looks. She shares the scene with an equally busty, dark
haired and pretty girl called Erika, and they get it on with Alain
and Richard including a DP and a facial for each girl, while an
extended crew sit around looking bored.
Yvette
Interview and initiation: Budapest, May 1999
Also known as Yvette Marco, Anita, etc - I don't quite catch what
she says herself but Pierre says her name is Anita. Having seen
her looking really good in full make-up for sex scenes, it's a surprise
to see that Anita is a plain but pretty girl with dark hair and
steely blue eyes. I must say immediately that the subtitle translations
on this scene are poor and inadequate. That's a shame, because this
is a provocative interview and sex scene on several levels.
Things take a turn for the darker after the usual routine of having
her look at the magazines leads to the revelation of her virginity
- the cynics may groan but she seems pretty plausible, especially
when she reveals that she's afraid of boys after she and her friend
were assaulted by some guys and her friend was raped at Lake Balaton
(not in the Balkans as the subtitles say!). Pierre sympathises,
saying he often has girls with these problems, but he hopes to find
a nice solution…I can imagine! She wisely seems to distrust his
offer of mere glamour photos.
Still, she agrees to show her body, and is sitting on the bed, naked,
her beautiful tan, curvy form exposed, almost ready to do it for
the first time with someone "friendly", as they tell her, when the
next thing you know, she's getting dressed and going to leave. Woodman
asks her to sit down and talk, Gabriella (who's translating, I believe)
hits her with a load of chat, and there's a cut. What to make of
it? Who knows? Next thing, anyway, Anita is on the bed, kissing
Pierre and letting him take off her t-shirt.
As always, the sex is slow and sensual at first, with Pierre taking
time to ease her back on the bed, going down on her and making her
cry out loud. They clasp hands as he eats her. I love little details
like that. He goes inside her first in missionary, slowly, then
faster. She seems to come and he kisses her. It's this sort of care
and attention that goes some way to explaining how Pierre has this
way with impressionable youngsters. That, and the size of his chequebook.
As is often the case with the static tripod-mounted camera view
of these initiation scenes, we see as much of Pierre's hairy arse
as the girl, but really it's all about the feeling and the moment.
All you can see of Anita at this point is her legs waving and her
toes curling. You can also hear her moans and groans! She starts
to call out and really warm up as the sex hots up, faster and faster
paced with spanking, her on top, moving awkwardly but sexily, kissing
often.
There's slightly dodgy moment when she says "nem" to sucking Pierre's
dick. So he gets her to look at it, then lick it, then he guides
her head gently but firmly on to it. This has me raising an eyebrow.
Anyway, she sucks him till he seems to come in her mouth.
Next thing we see, she's lying back and Pierre's lubing her ass
and fingering her clit till she cries out and has to make him stop.
She sucks him again, her body looking really good in this pose,
and then it's anal time. It's really remarkable just how much she
seems to get into it, crying "igen" as Pierre hammers into her ass,
soon eliciting squeals and yells with the ferocity of his fucking.
It's strong stuff, but quite compelling and exciting viewing. So
one might raise an eyebrow at the idea of a virgin now seeming utterly
at ease with quite fearsome anal fucking, but she really seems into
it. Her body language is good (except when she sucks him off at
the end and she runs off to the toilet!), and I wouldn't doubt that
this really is an inexperienced girl being given a lesson in sex
from a middle age man.
The rest? Who knows? All I can say is that I usually find these
scenes gripping and stimulating viewing and this is no exception.
The idea of him being a suitable, sympathetic figure for a first-time
sex experience for a girl with her history is something I find worthy
of debate, especially when we consider who really stands to gain
the most from her initiation into the world of porn. And yet, there's
the other side of the coin - as a viewer, I really want to see her
do it.
Andrea
Interview: Budapest, June 1998
Finally, the one that got away, this girl being unique, as it seems
neither Denys De Francesco nor Pierre Woodman could tempt her into
the business. She's a tall, slim Bulgarian, working in bars and
doing "private" jobs - use your imagination. Her command of English
is good and she has a lot to say. Maybe she just comes across as
too mercenary - comments to the effect of "sperm in the mouth
is no problem...as long as the money is right" aren't so endearing,
no matter how pretty she is. As she strips off, she tells how the
photographer De Francesco approached the then 17-year-old in the
street, wanting to photograph her for softcore, but her mother refused
to give permission. Too bad. Now she's old enough to choose for
herself, and does the poses easily, but it seems she didn't go any
further.
Overall
Castings 23 is a good entry in the line, I feel, with some interesting
chats and some charming girls to encounter. The Yvette/Anita initiation
is intriguing, questionable and exciting in almost equal measure,
and I also enjoyed Suzan, Sylvia and lovely Melanie. I guess, as
always, your mileage will vary on just how interesting you find
some sometimes quite superficial interviews with wannabe starlets
as they seek their 15 minutes, but for those who lap this stuff
up (like me) then it's well worthwhile.
Having watched numerous editions of the series, I have to say that
contrary to the cynical/stereotypical view of Woodman castings (i.e.
the virgin shocked by the mags but seduced into sex by Woodman)
is really a minority case: more girls want to do the work, and are
there for a casting because they want to be in porn. The way Private
has marketed the series and Woodman's seeming enjoyment of the reputation
have probably contributed to this misconception, but it's an inaccurate
view nonetheless.

Comments
The picture quality is actually pretty good for the most part -
there's a warning about it at the start, but it's actually fine
and a lot of it is better than the terribly cheap look of Woodman's
current products via Hustler. The sound is perfectly adequate, though
the selection of extras could be freshened up - the interview is
the same clip from volume to volume.
