Initial Expectations: I have yet to be disappointed from Shot at Home, even with high expectations. I’ve got high expectations here once again!

Audio /Video Quality: As usual with homemade videos, the technical aspects are a little lacking. The audio is slightly uneven, but there aren’t many background noises. The closest thing to a problem with the audio is the soft hum that was probably the camera running. The video has quite a few soft focus blurs and camera shakes, and although I don’t like them I can’t see how they can be avoided when the guy doing the fucking is also holding the camera! There’s also a bit of grain, which is downright bad in some spots, and quite a bit of uneven lighting.

Disc Problems / Complaints: Shot at Home puts a watermark on their movies. I know that this annoys a lot of people, but I think it’s very tastefully done and if people don’t concentrate on it they’ll easily get past it. It’s rather small and stays in one position throughout each scene rather than moving around and popping in and out where you notice it all the time. I don’t care for watermarks, but it’s done pretty well here.

Menus: The menus are pretty simple. The main menu gives a small screenshot and your choices while the chapter menu lets you choose a scene based on six small stills from the movie. The chapter menu will also let you jump directly to the different clips in the extras.

The Feature: Cassandra is a brunette in her early thirties and luckily her fiancé Keith has a video camera. This is a homemade style movie, meaning just what it sounds like. There’s no other cameramen here and the camera work is a bit primitive as Keith and Cassandra work their way through a few scenes.

This is a nicely done homemade movie! Yes, the camera work is primitive, with extreme close-ups being extremely common and a lot of camera shake and other things that drive people wild occurring regularly. I can see a lot of people being turned off by this feature for just that reason, but Cassandra drew me right in. She seems to have a lot of fun throughout the feature, and almost always looks extremely content. I love the little moans she makes through much of the action, as well as her smiles while she playfully asks Keith if he took a Viagra when she finds out how hard he is at the start of one scene. It’s charming touches like that which put a smile on my face, and I never felt like anything was faked. There’s even problems with the anal, which although I was a little irritated with the time devoted to the problems, I also enjoyed it because it was such a nice change to see anal shown as something that isn’t as easy as making toast for most people! The positions and angles matter for the anal, and it was nice to see that Cassandra needed a little help to the point that there’s a cut in the action. The horrible grain in the second segment, however, I couldn’t find any redeeming factor for. Cassandra Vol. 2 is another charming feature from Shot at Home that’s worth a look from anybody wanting to watch something like your neighbor’s naughty home movies.

Extras: Preview clips are included for Homemade Reel 1, Amity Give Me More Vol. 1, Cassandra Horny Wife To Be Vol. 1, Angela Vol. 1, Megan Video Letters to Alaska Vol. 2, and Jessica The Hometown Cutie Vol. 5. In each case the preview lasts about five minutes and gives you a nice little taste of the feature. It never feels close to a full scene, but it is good enough to know whether you’ll probably like the feature or not.

Overall: Currently, most Shot at Home DVDs can be found online for around $20. This seems to be pushing it a little here. The movie has the usual charm I’ve come to expect from Shot at Home, and has the same nicely done previews. Unfortunately, some of the technical aspects are seriously lacking. I’m sure that a lot of amateur feature fans won’t mind this, but I wouldn’t recommend it for somebody’s first amateur experience because of it.
