The Short Story

Initial Expectations: The Exchange Student, which was pretty much done by Insanity Pictures’ sister studio Club Reno, really kind of impressed me. There was enough good stuff there that I’m looking forward to this one!

Initial Reaction: It’s a darn good DVD debut from Insanity Pictures!

Who Should Watch It : Anybody who wants a bit of female domination and a variety of sex scenes

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody wanting nastier sex

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are very impressive for a studio’s first release. The audio is clear and well balanced, although there are a few places where you can hear a quiet direction from off camera. The video is very nicely done. It’s well lit and free of grain. This is perhaps the best video quality I’ve seen from an up and coming studio, especially for their first release!

Music: The music is very nicely done. It ranges in style from scene to scene, but always rests quietly in the background. There were times I had to consciously listen for it to know it was there.

Menus: The menus are pretty basic. The main menu is unanimated and the chapter menu lets you choose a scene based on a small clip from each scene.

The Feature

Voodoo starts things off telling you how the stories you’re about to see are true. They come from people he know and people he runs into. They all seem to have a story they think would be great for a porno, and now after changing a few names he’s bringing them to you!

Scene 1 - Aria, Steven St. Croix, and Jack Spade

In Karate Class, Aria gets a little discipline and direction from Master Steven. He leads her though a little stretching, and when he tries showing her a position she throws him down and shows him a position of her own. She kisses him before hopping up to straddle him, and they work back and forth to seek dominance over each other while kissing. My only complaint with this scene is the addition of Jack, who just doesn’t seem to fit quite right in the scene after the start. Yes, Aria definitely looks like she’s more than enough woman for two guys here, but adding Jack for the last few minutes just didn’t seem quite right.

Scene 2 - Lezley Zen and Alex Rox

in The Trespasser, Alex gets caught using the neighbor’s pool by realtor Lezley. He refuses to leave and comments that Lezley doesn’t look like your typical realtor. She agrees and shows him just how much by washing his mouth out with her pussy. I don’t really care for Alex, so I think the scene fading for me was due more than anything to his role increasing in the scene. It’s still a good scene, but I think a bit more of Lezley in control would have made it a lot better for me.

Scene 3 - Joelean and Eric Masterson

Tanning Salon lets Eric Masterson find out there’s some fierce competition for business in southern California. This is a very good lesbian scene, and another scene that has me looking forward to more from Michelle Lay!

Scene 5 - Chennin Blanc and Cheyne Collins

The Jogger has former stockbroker Cheyne being drawn up to real life partner Chennin’s condo while jogging. After a little small talk, Chennin drops down to mouth Cheyne’s manhood and strips down to let him see a bit of what he has in store for him. This is an okay scene, and compared to what I’m used to from Chennin and Cheyne, a bit of a disappointment. You can see that it’s very playful between the two of them, and that’s always great to see. Unfortunately, the scene goes downhill pretty good from there. Chennin never looks really happy, which might have been due to Cheyne having some wood problems. Cheyne always seemed to be very reliable for his scenes, so I can only hope that he’d done another scene or two earlier in the day. Cheyne still delivers a great load, so I’m not sure what to think. Regardless, this is the biggest disappointment in California Bad Girls.

Scene 6 - Nicole Sheridan and Voodoo

Voodoo finishes things up with his story, Pool Contractor. When the house owner is busting Voodoo’s ass to get their pool done, his wife Nicole suggests the best revenge would be to bust her ass. California Bad Girls is a pretty hot movie, especially for the first release for a company. Rather than biting off more than it can chew or starting off so tiny that you might not notice it, California Bad Girls takes one of the tried and true porno subjects and puts them together in a fun way. There’s nothing here that takes any amount of thought, but the scenes are enjoyable. The scenes also mix together a nice variety of sex scenes, and give pretty much every viewer a little something that should please them. Nicole Sheridan and Voodoo’s anal scene which finishes out the movie is easily the best scene, but Jolean and Eric Masterson’s isn’t far behind them. The only scene which really stuttered for me was a rare misfire between Chennin Blanc and Cheyne Collins. My only recurring complaint with the sex scenes is there are quite a few shots which are partially obstructed due to the performers positions, and the first few scenes seem repetitive due to using the same positions in about the same order from scene to scene. Although I was annoyed a little by these problems, I was able to get past them because most of the performers looked to be really into their partners and having a great time. California Bad Girls is a simple but fun porno, and definitely worth checking out if you enjoy anybody in the movie or are just looking for some good stroke material.

The Extra Stuff

The photo gallery includes over twenty very nice looking snapshots. You can advance through them at your own speed or they’ll advance on their own about every ten seconds. The behind the scenes featurette lasts over forty minutes! Both MX and Michelle Lay go behind the camera. They talk with the cast before and after their scenes, and even capture a bit of action between takes. It’s all nicely split up by scene, and you get a little of each scene. It’s a very nicely done behind the scenes featurette. If you enjoyed the movie and want to see the performers as real people, make sure you check it out!

Currently, Insanity Pictures DVDs can be found online for between $18 and $25 with most stores offering them near the low end. At the low end this is a darn good buy! The movie has some hot sex and is fun and varied. The technical aspects are well done and there’s even a long behind the scenes featurette in the extras. If you’re interested in this one, take the time to check it out!

Note to Insanity Pictures: For your first release, you’re showing some great potential! All this needs is a little polish. Animated menus, as they’re what gives the viewer their first impression, and a few more chapter breaks would be a great thing.
