Initial Expectations: Nic Cramer has been pretty hit or miss with me, and I don’t see much to make me expect a hit here.

Initial Reaction: The sex is pretty good, but the movie’s brought down by trying to mash a plot into it.

Who Should Watch It : Anybody who wants a fairly artistic movie with an anal emphasis

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody who wants heavy art direction, nasty anal sex, or anything close to resembling a plot

Audio /Video Quality: The audio is pretty clear and well balanced, although there is a bit of dubbing. The video, as usual with Nic Cramer’s features, looks a little odd. Colors such as green and red (making me think Christmas is one of Mr. Cramer’s favorite holidays) are brought out early in the feature to give it a slightly unnatural feel, and the entire picture flashes to monochrome for a frame, almost like subliminal messages, at several points throughout the feature. There’s also spots where natural lighting bleaches out a lot of color from the screen. The entire thing is presented in a modified non-anamorphic widescreen, and approximately ten percent is chopped off the right side of the screen with an orange line running from the top to the bottom of the full screen ratio. This gives the video format a feel that makes me think that somebody might not have known how to properly mat the film, although with the artistic liberties Mr. Cramer takes with the video it’s probably intentional. Sadly, it’s artistic liberties that bring down the entire movie.

Music: The music seems like a cross between typical porno music, techno, and new age. It’s very repetitive and a bit on the loud side, which meant it didn’t do much for me.

Menus: The menus are pretty standard. The main menu has a little animation that gives it a decent first impression and the chapter menu lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of the scene and a scene number.

The Feature: Uhm, this one’s about some people fucking and a girl that walks around and disappears like a ghost. Sadly, that’s about as much sense as I can make out of the storyline connecting the movie. There’s also some other stuff, but if you want to try and make sense of it more than that, I strongly suggest you bring along some herbal help.

After letting him shoot some naughty photos of her, Gauge takes pity on her then-boyfriend, always gargoyle Mojo by letting him do more than just look at her naked. She lets him spank her ass and finger and lick her holes before dropping down to suck his cock to warm him up, rather than doing the smart thing and downing a jug of Jack so she couldn’t see him so clearly. Gauge lets Mojo fuck her pussy as she lays back in a hand shaped chair, and then has him lie on the ground so she can show off her anal reverse cowgirl skills. Finally, Mojo bangs Gauge’s ass as she stands on her head before he strokes himself until popping on her face. It’s a fairly hot scene, but Gauge and Mojo have rarely impressed me too much. They have good chemistry here, as well as some nice energy, which gives the movie a good start.

Suitcase pimp supreme Jay Ashley gets busy with Kelli Sparks in the next scene. After some brief kissing she drops down to suck his cock while giving him the great eyes that Nic Cramer’s movies are so well known for. They apparently play all day, since it’s suddenly dark as John starts fucking T. J.’s pussy. He turns her around to push her tush, which T. J. doesn’t look that comfortable doing. It’s an okay scene that would have been a lot better if T. J. had looked more into the scene. There’s nice energy and decent chemistry at times, it just looks like T. J. isn’t at all comfortable through much of it.

Alex Sanders is visited by Heather Lyn in the penultimate scene. She magically appears in his office, and gives him a show while rolling around on his desk. She slides off the desk and onto Alex’ lap, dry humping him before she undresses either of them further. Although Calamity works well sexually, as a whole it feels a bit like a train wreck. Heather Lyn does a great job in both her scenes, as does Kelli Sparks and Gauge. T. J. Hart also puts in a good effort, and while she looks amazing here, her scene falls short compared to the rest of them. Sadly, all their efforts fall short due to Mr. Cramer trying to make this into a feature. The cover suggests something about revenge and the Devil’s daughter, but you barely see any of that come out through the movie. I suppose I should have learned not to expect Cramer to make sense after watching Wild Honey Trilogy, but Looker still lingers in the back of my head as a good movie! If all you care about is the sex, Calamity will probably suit you just fine. If you want anything more than that, or even think about expecting anything more than that, Calamity is going to be just that.

Extras: The only bio included is for Gauge, and includes a little personal information and a photo. The photo gallery includes about forty screens of full screen photos and snapshots. They all look pretty good, and frequently the snapshots are give two at once to make it a full screen presentation. There’s also the standard selection of Pleasure trailers, internet information, and phone sex commercials.

Overall: Currently, Calamity can be found online for between $13 and $30 with most stores offering it for under $18. If you’re a major fan of the cast or of Nic Cramer this might be worth it, but otherwise this seems just a little high. Most everything here except the extras only seems to be a little above average.

Note to Pleasure: A few more chapters in your features would be great. At the very least, please have a chapter for the non-sex portion, a chapter for the pop, and a chapter for the rest of the sex scene.
