One of my favourite memories of Top of the Pops (a long-running music TV show here in the UK) was when a bemused presenter introduced a live satellite relay of a performance by Sir Mix-A-Lot, whose DJ was perched on a stage fashioned in the shape of a giant ass, while scantily clad women gyrated all around. Just the sort of perfect prime time, family viewing that we like to see. What relevance does this have? Well, I'd just like to thank Evil Angel for the menu graphics on this DVD that, perhaps unintentionally, so vividly recall that hilarious broadcast. As for the movie itself, I am not so sure. There's a distinct whiff of leftovers about this 1998 Buttman release, which as usual sees John Stagliano as the camera-wielding butt obsessive.

Sophie & Kathy
With blonde Sophie Call, who looks more Scandinavian than East European, out on a balcony overlooking the Danube, John is indoors letting his camera intimately inspect every inch of Kathy's body, from teasing with her hip-hugging skirt to panty play to teasing out her nipples while her dark red lips pout. Kathy is faintly reminiscent of dear Daniella Rush in looks, though despite looking better than her appearance in Voyeur 8, Kathy isn't so much to my taste. Anyway, it's Sophie's turn to tease the viewers, modelling white fishnet tights that cling to her tanned curves. Kathy wears a similar orangey-brown pair before Rocco arrives. As he uses a pair of scissors to ease his access to intimate parts, he ponders if his cock will fit in Kathy's tight little butt hole. He'll find out soon enough.

First, lots of licking, fingering and smacking of fine butt cheeks acts as a prelude to Rocco having Sophie suck his dick while the playful Kathy sucks his balls. He licks both some more before getting into some hearty sex. Nice to see the girls cling together as he fucks one, then the other, Kathy getting down to suck dick when it pops out of Sophie's snatch. Sophie takes a tasty ride on Rocco's cock, working her ass, with Kathy licking Rocco's nuts before sitting on his face. Kathy then enjoys some really vigorous sex with Rocco and, after a little more licking and fingering, she's able to take him in her butt, which soon has her squealing. Next, Sophie kneels on a stool, offering up her butt - but, and there's always a but, she only has straight doggy sex though there's a great shot of her ass riding back on Rocco's cock. The finale sees Rocco's tool pouring come onto the upturned asses of the cooing girls. John comments that this is his first time in Budapest, so that really dates this scene, presumably to the time of 1997's Buttman in Budapest, the hotel room looks like one in Buda from the same year. Nonetheless, It's the best thing in the movie.

Susie
Another connection to the same period of shooting in Budapest, this time Big Butt Euro Babes where she apparently appears as Suzy Q (haven't seen it), Susie is a slim but curvy blonde who John follows into an empty flat and offers cash to have her show her body, not that much is really covered by her crop top, see-through pink hot pants and g-string. Money changes hands and she lets John film and grope her lovely pert bum and other intimate parts in suitably intimate detail. This is interrupted by the arrival of Leslie Taylor, and John hides and peeps as Leslie and Susie kiss. The pony-tailed cocksman gets down to lick her, she returns the oral favour to him, and then Leslie further tongue lashes her nether regions.

John offers Leslie cash so he can video them fucking, but I wonder if he wishes that he'd saved his money. A modicum of passion in the couple's initial contact quickly dissipates in some rather routine sex - lots of positions, including cowgirl that facilitates a great ass shot as expected, but it never sparks up for me. In the end up, Leslie spunks on her ass. I wouldn't say this was the first time that I'd felt a Buttman scene has sex that's distinctly less enjoyable than the tease that preceded it.

Angela & Vanessa
While waiting for the manager at a club, John encounters two girls who also seem to be meeting this guy. First, Angela, a blonde wearing a pink summer dress and fabulous sheer white pantyhose, then Vanessa, with a blue dress and streaks in her brown hair, and John has visions of them teasing him with their garments and curvaceous bodies, intimately observing them. Thus we have lots of shots of Angela's ass in transparent nylon, then Vanessa's nice tits and pink pussy. Playing the club boss, Andrew Youngman's arrival breaks the spell, and he has to have words with his waitresses. John envisages Andrew roughly handling Angela, spanking her and dick slapping her as she sucks him - and I thought Andrew was a nice boy.

John tells Andrew he's looking for a club to use as a location (presumably for Buda - Angela's in it too) and wonders if the girls could be in a porn movie. Let's see. They suck Andrew's cock eagerly, ride his dick and provide the customary ass shots but sexually this is lacking for me. Maybe it's too jumpy, maybe there are too few shots of faces, maybe it's because Vanessa is still chewing gum and I simply hate to see that!

A break to get the girls prepared for anal leads to Angela taking Andrew's dick in her ass, moving from a standing position to one on a couch, where Vanessa joins them, sliding lubed fingers into her own ass. Soon enough, after Angela's taken an anal cowgirl ride, Vanessa accepts Andrew's prick into her ring in spoons and then doggy. After a final bout of cock sucking, Angela tosses Andrew off onto both girls' faces. Overall, I just felt there was little personality in the scene, little rapport between the performers. I hate fake moaning in porn, but this was so quiet it seemed way too much like a business transaction. Neither girl is especially pretty on close inspection, though their bodies are still hot enough to make the tease section good fun.

Rocco's Orgy
This scene is basically John's perspective on a 25-person orgy that Rocco staged for the two-part Rock N' Roll Rocco. Unfortunately, it's only sporadically interesting, has a distinct stop-start feel and sees John flitting about between Rocco's camera crew guys in order to capture his own stuff. This seems to be the bits that Rocco didn't use and has as much of an on-set feel as a proper sex scene, with lots of people standing around saying they're ready, and having to wait some more. Anyway, there are eventually some occasional glimpses of some decent action, even though it takes too long to get going, but I just found it frustrating, even if it does demonstrate how hard it must be to successfully stage a scene like this.

There are some familiar faces from Rock N' Roll Rocco among the girls, though I am not at all sure of the credits used here. There's a blonde who John calls Lenka that I remember well from the football orgy scene, and the leggy brunette Katerina Martinez. A short-haired blonde, who reminds me vaguely of Judith Grant, takes a prominent role for anal and DP - the sandwich is made up of her between Rocco and Christoph Clark. Oh yes, the usual suspects are in evidence: Roberto Malone and Richard Lengin as well as some of those dodgy characters who populated Rocco's Italian located, multi-guy scenes in the mid-nineties. Not enough attractive women, though - one cute little ex-Private starlet, Kristina, is not sufficient amid one too many crop-haired, hard-faced blondes. So in the end, it's mildly interesting but not that exciting, and I really have mixed feelings about whether this footage really needed to see the light of day. John does though - the all-night shoot ends with birds singing to usher in the dawn.

Overall
Having heard mixed reports on Rolling Cheeks, I wanted to see it for myself, especially with that great shot of Angela on the cover being almost enough to sell the movie alone. However, that would misrepresent what in the end up is a rather mediocre selection of scenes. It's all too apparent that the first scene really benefits from Rocco's charisma - the following two scenes are almost devoid of personality, and if it wasn't for John's endearing manner and skilful eye, there would be nothing to distinguish them from the kind of fodder that is churned out by the uninspired American directors who think lashing around some cash in Budapest will make up for their own lack of talent. Which is not what we expect from someone as talented and perceptive as John Stagliano. So while some typical Buttman moments are there to be enjoyed, I just can't recommend Rolling Cheeks. Disappointing.

DVD Comments
The picture quality perhaps suffers from age - it looks like it was shot with cameras some way below the standard now available - but it is a bit grainy. Some of the sound is also a touch rough, but there's not too much to really interfere with the enjoyment of the movie on the A/V score. There's no extra footage, just a photo gallery and text information like filmographies, biography and cast list. Again, liked the menu graphics, and as always on Evil Angel discs the chance to jump to favourite parts of the movie via chapter or fetish menus is on offer.
