I honestly respect John Stagliano, both as an innovator and for his dedication to releasing quality pornography (his own, and those of other Evil Angel directors). I’ve enjoyed many of his movies over the years, but here’s the catch -- I still don’t like them that much. Watching Buttman’s Anal Show helped me understand why.

I had wanted to see this because the cast includes a couple of women of whom I’m fond. VictoriO was kind enough to loan me his copy of the DVD for my viewing pleasure, so I thank him for making this review possible.

Vanda is the first of the girls I wanted to see. I’ve been a fan of hers for years, especially due to her many Private performances, such as Uranus Experiment 3 and Indiana Mack 1, and as I have written before, I really fell in lust with Vanda in Rocco’s True Anal Stories 4. I got a new perspective on her courtesy of Nacho and Tony Ribas in Killer Pussy 4 and Hardcore Innocence 1.

Vanda shares the first scene with cute, youthful Ildiko, a petite brunette who made a few movies around this time (circa summer 1998). For her other appearances in Fresh Meat 6 and World Sex Tour 16 she was joined by her friend Sonja, a prettier blonde who is absent this time. Ildiko proved an anal champ, taking Lexington Steele deep up her ass in the latter movie, something the larger Sonja was incapable of doing (just the attempt left her in very real tears, it’s a disturbing moment). Vanda is very passionate, while Ildiko seems detached, comfortable in any sexual situation, but not really into it.

Buttman admits in his commentary that this first scene was shot before he came up with the concept of an “anal show.” He just wanted to capture some anal action with a bit of a real life feel, so he let the camera roll at various moments that almost seem “behind the scenes.” Of course, most of the time is spent with Christoph using is fingers and cock to stretch Vanda’s sphincter, before Foster and Walton anal and DP Ildiko. Finally, everyone gets together on a soundstage for a free for all. The action should satisfy most anal fans, but it left me a little cold. Vanda looks really pretty, but also rather sad, an expression she wears in most of her movies. In the past, I had thought that this was merely her normal facial expression, but after seeing how much happier she seemed making her non-anal scenes in Killer Pussy 4 and Hardcore Innocence 1, I realized that she doesn’t really like getting buttfucked (even if she has done it frequently, and as a volunteer). Vanda finally brightens up when her part in getting analled is over, and she can just lick and suck and kiss, while Ildiko gets her holes stuffed.

The next scene was specifically intended for this anal show, and it is the best of the movie. Christoph is with Caroline Cage and Kata in the same hotel along the Danube in Pest that he and Stagliano keep using up to the present. This must have been shot about the same time as Clark made Euro Angels 9, as the two women appear together again there (and Christoph burned off a leftover scene of Kata much later in Euro Angels 23). Meanwhile, Caroline was just coming into the full flush of popularity after starring for Pierre Woodman in Indecency, and made several movies for John Leslie (the Voyeur 13, Fresh Meat 8) and Rocco (True Anal Stories 8) about this time. She has a long resume, and among her more recent titles are Killer Pussy 6 and Hardcore Innocence 2. Sadly, she has also acquired really offensive bolt-ons, which are so bad that I didn’t recognize her in those last two (whoever talked her into them ought to be shot, and if it was her idea, she should shoot herself...in the foot, which would be appropriate, since that seems to be the effect it has had on her career).

Happily, Caroline looks her absolute best in Anal Show. She has a wholesome, “natural” look which is a big improvement over the bleach-blonde, overly made-up way she appeared in Indecency. Kata could almost be her older, plainer, thicker bodied sister. Kata does benefit from some extra makeup (compare her here and in Euro Angels 23), and she could easily be fat if she didn’t take care of herself. So while Caroline is nicely curvy, Kata has an out and out Big Butt, not that this is a bad thing, especially for a butt worship movie. Stagliano makes sure to capture plenty of tease of both women, who prance and show off their booty for the appreciative men. Christoph then sticks the requisite toys and fingers up the womens’ assholes, before fucking both anally in several positions. I suspect Caroline could take or leave the anal, while Kata seems to enjoy the intense feelings butt play evokes. She also shows (as in Euro Angels 23) no hesitation in sucking ass to mouth and rimming male and female brown eyes. All told, this seems like exactly the sort of scene I would want from an anal show, and it makes me want to look up a copy of Euro Angels 9, a movie I have never seen.

The final scene isn’t bad, but just doesn’t appeal to me. It is one of a bunch that Stagliano shot at his home with Nacho Vidal and various women. This time, it is large French actress Gina Vice, who has grossly inflated tits and a short, butch, blonde dye job. Her looks are my main problem with this, since her enthusiasm is commendable. First, we get the expected tease footage of her big, but tight, ass. This attracts latin psycho Nacho, who jerks off while standing outside, looking in a window. Stagliano allows him to enter, so long as he doesn’t disturb the photo shoot, but naturally he can’t keep his hands off the merchandise, so a sex scene ensues.

Gina is quite excited by Nacho’s big prick, gobbling knob eagerly, and soon fitting that organ up her ass (wrapped in a condom). It is almost scary that she can handle it so easily in the various positions they go through. She’s obviously done this before, though she does seem rather relieved when it is over, and the also-excited Nacho gives her his cumshot.

The setup for that last scene is decent enough, but while watching it I finally figured out why I don’t really care for Stagliano’s movies. I find that his, “Gee whiz, I’m just a lowly schmuck, how I did I get caught up in the middle of all these people having sex” persona gets old fast. I much prefer Christoph’s “I am big pervert, but I am nice boy” brand of silliness. He tones down that act when working as Stagliano’s hired dick, which only reinforces criticism I have read elsewhere (and agree with) that Buttman movies work best when Rocco is the main hired gun. The “aww shucks” of Buttman needs the “I am the king, worship my cock” sexuality of Rocco to properly balance it, and of course this rarely happens now that Rocco mostly makes his own movies. Also, I hope that I never again see Buttman with womens’ underwear on his head! That sort of craziness I can live without...

The DVD of Buttman’s Anal Show is a mixed bag, though the extra features make it certainly much more worthwhile than the VHS. I found that the menus didn’t work very well, and I would have liked a more in depth commentary from Stagliano (yeah, it is 19 minutes, but I didn’t find as many insights as in some of his others). These are offset by some very good extra footage, especially more tease and sex of Caroline and Kata, and of course any commentary is better than none. The photo gallery has some good shots, to complete the package (along with the Fetish Menu, which I shouldn’t take for granted).

VictoriO loved Buttman’s Anal Show, as his review indicates. I’m afraid I can’t share his opinion (other than the middle scene), but neither am I panning it. The action is all well shot, and the movie delivers on its promise of showing the female posterior in glorious detail. But for all that, it simply didn’t grab me the way that many equally butt-obsessed titles from Christoph and Rocco have. If the movie sounds promising, don’t hesitate to rent or purchase it. Fans of these particular actresses may find it exactly what they are hoping for, but I got a lot more out of Stagliano’s Buda, Buttman in Budapest, and Buttman’s Big Tit Adventure 5.
