The Short Story

Initial Expectations: This was an okay movie and DVD when I watched the original release. I’m looking forward to this release as it looks like Wicked put a lot of effort into it.

Initial Reaction: This is the kind of DVD Jenna fans deserve!

Who Should Watch It : Fans of slightly artistic porn with a plot and a few jabs at the adult industry, Jenna fans, and anybody who really liked the original movie

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody wanting straightforward sex, a lot of Jenna Jameson getting busy, or pure stroke material

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are pretty close to that of the original release of Blue Movie, but are slightly improved. It’s clear and well balanced, and I don’t think I heard a single background noise. There’s a couple places which have some dubbing, but they’re quick and easy to miss. As the cover states, Blue Movie was shot on film. This means that there’s a bit of grain, as well as some depth to the video. As usual with Wicked, even back nearly ten years ago when Blue Movie was made, when they shoot on film they give it the treatment it deserves. There’s some noticeable grain, but that’s about it. The grain doesn’t dominate the video, but there are a few shadows that show up now and then. This was all good before, and now looks even better.

Music: The music varies in style throughout the movie, but is almost always very nicely balanced with the rest of the audio. Best of all, the music feels unique rather than being something you’ve already heard in at least fifteen other features.

Menus: The menus are nicely done. The main menu has some very nice animation, and leads into the slightly odd feel of the movie very well. The chapter menu is pretty average, however, and lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and a scene number.

The Extra Stuff

Unlike the original release of Blue Movie, this version is packed with extras. There’s a few of Wicked’s standard extras, but mostly there’s a ton of stuff pertaining both to Jenna and the movie. There’s extended sex scenes, photo galleries, and featurettes. This is a packed DVD!

Extended Scene 1 - Jenna Jameson and T. T> Boy

The first extended scene is between Jenna Jameson and T. T. Boy, and lasts about twenty minutes. Unlike the original release, there’s no music to get in the way of the sounds of what’s really going on. T. T. starts things out kissing Jenna’s kitty before letting her reciprocate with some great oral action. Jenna moves up to ride T. T. cowgirl style and let him nail her mish before he gives her a dose of dick droppings. She gets back up for a bit of reverse cowgirl before he gives her a little more population pudding on her pussy. They continue on with a bit of doggie style and another pop before T. T. gives it to Jenna missionary style and the scene fades out.

This is a nicely done extended scene. Things are mixed up a bit from the original, which gives it a nicely different feeling. There isn’t anything radically different added here, but it does flow nice and doesn’t feel rushed like so many of the scenes in the movie originally did.

Extended Scene 2 - Jenna Jameson, Jeanna Fine, and Lana Sands

The second extended scene lasts about sixteen minutes and starts with Jenna clapping her hands to get things started. Lana immediately goes after Jenna’s goodies before Jeanna joins in. After the girls work on Jenna for a bit Jeanna takes her turn. She hops on Jenna’s face for a little tongue and tickle before the girls turn their attention towards Lana. Jenna eats Lana while Jeanna fingers her, and they team up to work Lana to a nice orgasm. Finally, Jeanna stacks Jenna on top of Lana so that she can play with them both before the scene ends with Jeanna letting go with a line to bring the plot back into things.

This scene is far superior to the original. To start with, it’s long enough to actually build up some heat. It also lets the girls work their way around each other much better and doesn’t feel chopped off as the original did. Comparing the original cut of this scene to this scene feels almost like a trailer compared to the movie.

There’s also about twelve minutes of Jenna with her blue ball, which is roughly twice as long as the action from the opening credits. There isn’t any music for this cut of the scene, but the ball still has a voice, as well as a bit of chemistry with Jenna. She plays with the ball, rolling it around her body and talking to it. She almost uses it as a sex toy at times, but mostly gets herself off like she’s trying to give the ball a great show.

This is a great solo scene. Once again, the extra length really helps the scene become something more. Jenna does a great job of making the ball an envied sex object, and keeps things paced nicely. This is a very well done solo scene and a version that’s definitely worth checking out!

There’s also three takes of the slumber scene between Jenna and T. T. Boy. Each take lasts about two minutes and has Jenna rolling around half naked, in and out of her sleeping bag, touching herself “in her sleep”, and guarding the map. Each take is slightly different, and unlike other clips like this, you never really see anything wrong. It’s just a few takes of Jenna showing that Jenna was one of the best around at teasing even when she was first starting out with Wicked.

There’s also a few other Jenna related extras. First, there’s Jenna’s quick strip from the movie, which lasts about forty seconds and includes a couple bloopers. Jenna’s photo shoot lasts about two and a half minutes, and is basically a compilation of clips of Jenna modeling for the camera for her different roles put to music. There’s also a bio of Jenna with a few of her statistics. Finally, there’s a minute and three quarter star gallery of Jenna from the movie with about six seconds per very nice looking snapshot or full screen photo.

There’s also plenty of the usual extras you expect from Wicked. The photo gallery from the movie lasts a minute and a half with about six seconds per good looking snapshot or full screen photo. There’s also trailers for XXX Training, Heat, Hercules, Falling From Grace, and Bordello Blues. There’s also promotional materials, DVD-ROM stuff, and a commercial for the Free Speech Coalition.

Finally, there’s a commentary with director Michael Zen and stylist Lee Garland. They talk about the style of the movie, the camera work, the lighting and all of the little details you might not think of (including hairstyles). There’s also quite a few stories about making the movie and reflections on working with Jenna before she was the porn diva. It’s a very fun commentary, and quite different from most of the commentaries I’m used to from Wicked in the good way. If you enjoyed the style of Blue Movie, you’ll probably have a lot of fun listening to the commentary.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many of Wicked’s DVDs can be found online for between $15 and $30 with many stores offering them for around $21. Since Blue Movie strikes me as a movie people will either love or hate, I’d suggest people who think it might not be their thing rent this one first. Otherwise, this is a fantastic DVD which shows a lot of care. The movie is very unique, and the technical aspects show a lot of care. It’s also obvious that a lot of care went into the extras. Note to Wicked: It’s great to see you putting this kind of effort into your Jenna titles! When you do re-releases like this in the future I hope you give the viewer the ability to watch the movie with the extended scenes put into the film or the original version.
