Initial Expectations: Digital Sin’s features have normally been very good, which is what I’m expecting here.

Audio /Video Quality: The audio varies a bit, which helps and hurts the feature depending on the type of scene. The setup sequences are a bit hard to understand, as the narration is dark and guttural, but this helps set much of the mood of the feature. The balance is a little off during some of the sex scenes, which brings down the scenes a bit. The video normally has a slight bit of grain, but it isn’t even as much as a movie that’s been shot on film and treated right. There are also a few soft focus problems and abstracts that flash across the screen from time to time.

Music: The music has a dark techno feel that fits the feature almost perfectly. It detracts from the heat slightly, but exchanges the slight amount of heat for continuing the feel of the movie throughout the scenes. The music is a bit loud through most of the feature, but not so much that you can’t hear some of the actual audio in the scene.

Menus: The main menu is fairly plain, and offers little to set it apart from any other releases. The chapter menu is pretty standard, offering a small clip from the scene to help you choose.

The Feature: Sean Rider feels darkness and uncertainty all around him. His face is scarred, requiring him to wear a mask of some sort, and he has no knowledge of his past outside of his yearnings. The only positive thing he feels is a little something for Jewel De’Nyle, who might not realize what she’s involved in or with. Sean sets out to try and discover something about his past to help him with his future, but might not like what he finds when he starts to follow his bloodlust.

Jewel De’Nyle starts off Bloodrite in bed with Sean Rider, who’s face is covered in a large bandage type mask. He narrates everything leading up to this scene, and there’s a darkness leading into the scene that his mask continues through the scene slightly. Jewel looks as good as she ever did with fake tits, and starts off fairly subdued. Sean licks her tits and pussy before letting her suck and ride his cock. Jewel starts out riding the cock, and although she puts some very nice effort into it, it frequently bothered me because it was obvious how badly her boob job was done throughout most of the scene. They also bump uglies spooning and in the missionary position before he decorates Jewel’s implants with a little more foreign matter. It’s a slightly above average scene that’s kind of a mixed bag. On the positive side, it stays slightly artistic, which fits the feel of the overall feature. On the negative side, the camera frequently focuses a bit much on the extreme close-up, which brings the scene down a bit from where it could be. It ends up a bit above average, but feels like it could have been better.

Jewel returns for the next scene, this time with the highly under-rated Chennin Blanc and the highly aged Claudio. It also seems to have a bit of trouble deciding what it wants to be as a scene, starting out as more of a bondage scene but ending as a typical lesbian scene.

Bloodrite is very well done, but definitely not for everybody. The sex scenes will no doubt be to most porn fans liking, as most of them are done quite nicely. The setup sequences, however, might turn off quite a few people who pay attention to them. Rather than having porn stars attempt the amazing feat of acting when not having sex, it’s done in an artistic style that’s almost reminiscent of the poorly animated super hero cartoons from the mid to late 1960s. Stills flash by that have almost a painted feel to them while Blake, the main character, narrates what he thinks is happening. It makes Bloodrite a very unique adult film, and was different enough that I took an immediate liking to it as soon as I saw that the sex scenes were still going to be done normally. This isn’t to say that Bloodrite is perfect. There are a few things in its style I didn’t like, such as the camera focusing a bit much on the close-up and the music drowning out a good portion of the audio. It also doesn’t end completely, and appears that it’s the first part of a series that I really want to see more of. Despite these minor complaints, the uniqueness of Bloodrite’s feel was enough to make me dang glad I watched it.

Extras: As usual, Digital Sin has put next to no effort into their extras. It’s the same B-side that’s on almost every other Digital Sin DVD over the last year or so. Ed Powers has shown more originality over the last year than Digital Sin has with their extras. I’m so dang tired of this B-side that I’m docking the feature’s extras two and a half points. There’s also a website commercial that’s mislabeled as a trailer and a photo gallery that contains twenty very nice looking full screen photos.

Overall: Currently, Bloodrite can be found online for between $17 and $25 with most stores offering it for about $20. This is definitely not for everybody, and I think is going to be one people either really like or really detest. I found its style to be extremely refreshing and thought the movie very well done, including the technical aspects. The only thing that brings it down is the horribly tired extras that you’ve probably already seen a dozen times.

Note to Digital Sin: This strikes me as if it was a very risky movie to make. Thank you for taking the risk, and I hope you bring more like it out on DVD. Next could you please also be daring enough to change your extras? Your lack of caring about them will bring down many people’s image of your entire product line.
