Initial Expectations: Penthouse has put out some fun little movies. I'm hoping this is another of them.

Initial Reaction: It's good, but felt like it had the potential to be even better with just a little more effort.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are pretty good. The audio is clear and nicely balanced, and I didn't notice any background nosies. The video is presented in anamorphic widescreen and looks very nice. It often has a soft look to it that works well for the style of the movie, and the lighting is very well handled with a very nice range.

Music: The music varies a little from scene to scene. Sometimes it's romantic while other times it's hard and driving. It normally starts out on the loud side but then drops down as the scene gets going.

Menus: The main menu works through a little generic animation before settling in on the boxcover with a few stills for an okay first impression. The chapter menu lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and the name(s) of the girl(s) in it.

The Feature

Blonde & Brilliant wraps itself around blonde jokes. As tired stand up comic Kyle Stone reads off old blonde jokes on stage, the action fits itself between them using some of the jokes for locations or setups.

Bottle blonde Jessica reads a few scientific facts out of her book on the moon to Niko in bed when he'd rather get some action. She gives in and lets him kiss and grope his way around her including a bit of attention for her tits before moving down to rub, kiss, lick, and finger her bald pussy. This is a pretty good scene. Jessica is cute and gets into the action nicely. She and Niko put out some good energy and there's some pretty good eye contact between them. There's some decent humor to start and close the scene and it's all captured nicely. This is a nice little scene.

When Evan stops into the garage to see if his car is fixed yet grease monkey Brooke comes up wearing a white wifebeater, a short denim skirt, and black boots. He makes a couple comments about women mechanics before she shows him what she did to it, and the action cuts between them talking and getting it on before moving into him fucking her missionary style on the car. Brooke rolls over for Evan to fuck her from behind before going back to her back for Evan to fuck her a bit more with a few slaps mixed in. She finishes him off sucking and stroking his cock until he pops on her tits.

This scene worked for me in a big way. Brooke plays the mechanic angle very well, showing both a tough edge as well as plenty of sexiness. There's great chemistry between her and Evan, and I loved the artistic style of the scene. The faster editing style worked very well here and I really liked how some of the monochrome footage was mixed in. This is a darn hot scene that's easily one of my favorites in the movie.

Things take a military turn as blonde Diana works out in the gym at the same time as Nick. They eye each other a bit as they work out before kissing as their clothes disappear. Nick sucks Diana's tits, gropes her ass, and mouths his way around her neck before she drops down to suck and stroke his cock in return. She gets back up to ride him cowgirl style before turning around for the reverse cowgirl, and lays back for Nick to finger her before he fucks her missionary style. Finally Diana gets down for a nice facial finish.

This is a pretty good scene. Diana looks great and puts out some nice energy and vocals. Nick puts out some good energy as well, but also has his normal attitude that turned me off as much here as it does most everywhere else. This is a pretty good scene but I couldn't help but think that it would have been much better with different male talent.

When blonde Brianna and Anthony are up for the same promotion he lets her know that if she's a team player she can stay on the team when he gets the promotion. Brianna puts her moves on him and soon after has him stripping her down and worshiping her body after a little initial resistance. This is another nicely done scene. Brianna looks as good as I think she ever has here, and has very nice chemistry with Anthony. There's a touch of an edge to the action and it's very nicely captured. As much as I enjoyed the scene, it also came up a touch short due to only having two positions. This is another of my favorite scenes in the movie, but it would have been a lot better with one more position.

After listening to Kyle do dumb blonde jokes, hot blondes Jana and Samantha head in back where Jana sets out to entertain Samantha. She helps Samantha out of her suit a bit and starts kissing her as they strip each other down and grope their way around each other. Samantha moves down to kiss Jana's tits before Jana gets down to lick her pussy a little. Samantha gets down to lick and finger her in return before the girls each take a turn tonguing and fingering each other from behind.

This is an okay final scene. Jana and Samantha look fantastic, and my jaw almost hit the floor when they first took the screen. Sadly the scene never recovers from that moment and instead turns into a pretty generic back and forth lesbian scene without ever letting the heat build too highly because of it. There's plenty of great visuals here, but they never seem to have too much depth to make the scene as strong as one would hope. This scene is filled with great eye candy, but its lack of depth had it finishing the movie on a slightly disappointing note.

Blonde & Brilliant is a decent couples fuck flick. The setup has a little humor with Kyle Stone as a pathetic stand-up comedian doing dumb blonde jokes, and much of the time it works into the sex scenes nicely. Brooke Banner's scene with Evan Stone is easily the best in the movie, but Brianna Beach and Anthony Rosano come in close behind them. At the same time Jana Cova and Samantha Ryan end up with one of the weakest scenes with a scene filled with very nice eye candy but virtually no depth. That's much of the problem with Blonde & Brilliant, as it often comes up just a little short of where it felt like it might have been. From the lack of depth in Jana and Samantha's scene to feeling like it could have really used a third position in Brianna and Anthony's scene, the movie often comes up just short enough to be noticeable while at the same time having plenty of very nice visuals and a very nice couples sex feeling. The feeling is strong enough that I can see it working very well for a lot of couples, and it's well worth a rental for those who are curious about it as well. Blonde & Brilliant is a nice little fuck flick that felt like it had the potential to be quite a bit better than it ended up being.

The Extra Stuff

The photo gallery lasts about two and a half minutes with about seven seconds per okay looking snapshot. Trailers are included for Pin-Up, The Itch, Cougar Cruisin', Secret Diary of a Cam Girl, Kinky Cougars, and The Sex Party. There's also weblinks and a bonus scene with accompanying photo gallery.

The bonus scene comes from Friends With Benefits. Brunettes Mia, in a sexy black outfit, and Isabella, in a casual baby blue dress, start out talking about sex, themselves, and liking girls. The action cuts to both girls in sexy black outfits as Mia runs a paddle around Isabella and then licks her from behind before teasing her with a clear and silver dildo. This is a pretty hot scene. Both girls are darn cute, but there's something smoking hot about Mia and she quickly drew me in. There's very nice chemistry between the girls and I really loved their outfits. At the same time the editing was a touch choppy and interfered with the flow of the scene for me. This is a decent scene, but I couldn't help but think that it had the potential to be even better.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many Penthouse DVDs can be found online for between about $17 and $25 with several stores offering them for around $20. Aim for the low end here. The movie isn't bad, but it is on the short side and often falls just a little short of where it feels like it should have ended up. The technical aspects are nicely done and the extras show a touch of effort with a nice bonus scene. This is a decent little couples release.

Note to Penthouse: Although this one didn't quite work as well for me as I think it could have, at the same time it is nice to see you remaining as consistent as you are through your movies for those who really enjoy them.
