Blaze (GAI) Review

The setting: a house that is under construction. Gravel covers what will be the floor. Votive lights are placed around the unfinished room. A young naked man is standing in the room pulling on his tight foreskin. This is Lex Milan who plays Blaze. We cross-fade to Hans Ebson and Trent Atkins making out on a heavy blanket spread over the graveled floor. They are sucking on each other’s cocks. We continue to cross-fade between the fellating duo and the masturbator. The duo is photographed with oblique angles. There is lush romantic music. We are so conscious of the film techniques that we are distracted from the sex. This is one the tendencies of this director who often exhibits style over substance. When Hans rims the adorable blond Trent, Trent’s moans are the first human sounds we hear. Hans then inserts his dick into the well-lubed hole. Yet we still feel distanced from this activity. The gimmicks have made it cold and uninvolving. After the sexual couple has cum, the masturbator shoots a nice load and emits an evil laugh. We next see first Trent’s and the Han’s photos being held to a candle flame and burnt. Eerie. After this first scene I was afraid that this film was going to be another stylistic horror like this studio’s Switched, but with scene two the film took to the heights.

In this next scene, Dane Brando drives up a house in a fancy new convertible. Entering the house he hears only a disembodied voice telling Dane that he will make him a deal--he will not have to pay for the car if he wears what his mysterious benefactor wants him to wear. “I don’t like the way this is going,” Dane replies, “It is all too weird.” He seemed at this point to be voicing my own thoughts.

What Dane finds to wear is a pair of black leotards and a white t-shirt. In another room, Damon West—who has apparently made a similar deal—appears in white leotards and a t-shirt. These white leotards do nothing to hide Damon’s exceptional endowment or his religion. (We see now why ballet danseurs wear dance belts—and realize that ballet would outdraw all other entertainments if they did not.) Dane and Damon meet in the living room before a bright red sofa and have absolutely scorching sex. Dane has a stiffy that curves upward. Damon has a straight one with a head that turns downward. There is still cross-fading and oblique angles, but they are nicely controlled here and don’t keep us from this sexsational activity. Both guys are super cocksuckers and when Dane sits on Damon’s biggie it slides in with ease. After Damon maneuvers Dane into the missionary position he really throws it to him. Soon he is able to pull it all the way out and reinsert it with no hands. Close-ups show Dane’s gaping hole and give credence to those porn writers who use the term “boy pussy”. As was done after the first scene, we see photos of Dane and Damon being committed to the flame. It is really worth getting the DVD for this scene alone, but wait—there’s more!

For scene three we find Rhett O’Hara (Scarlett’s love-child?) cavorting in a pool with Lexx Parker and Johnny Law. Rhett is a mass of tattoos, Johnny has a few too many, Lexx is the epitome of a blond twink. Climbing out of the pool and thanking their absent host Blaze for leaving them some food, they do the stale routine of pretending bananas are dicks. (“Open wide”.) Then they move to the real thing with a daisy-chain suck. Rhett tops Lexx and then Johnny. Moving over to a child’s swing, Rhett returns to fucking Lexx. To conclude, Lexx cums on his belly. Rhett and Johnny add to the mixture. No stylistic devices were used in this scene, it was just straightforward sex. (Or should that be “gayforward” sex? Anyway, it was a hot scene.) Three more pix now hit the flame.

Now if you thought this film was going to be about firemen, your hope is fulfilled in scene four. Four guys—David Maltese, J.R. Montes, Walter Lee, and Sean Tarantini—enter a firehouse and examine the fire engine. Spying the firemen’s gear, they decide to put it on. Sereen, a real fireman, watches through a window. Once the boys are all appareled, Sereen bursts in on them. After bawling them out he asks to “see their hoses.” They pull them out. Well, let me tell you, these hoses are more likely to start fires then put them out. Sereen then shows them his firestarter. All then put their hoses to work. Of particular interest is Sereen inserting his into David Montes (who would have been my choice, too.) One of the things I particularly like about this film is that the sex is performed in the nude. The performers do not wear white socks or mountain-climbing boots while having sex. My only quibble with this scene is that it doesn’t go on long enough. (In too many films the scenes drag on for eternity, so it feels strange to say a scene was too short. But how time flies when you’re having fun.) This time five photos hit the flames.

We are treated to Steve Waye doing a candle-dance. He then retires to a cream sofa and stretches out. His stiff dick is stretched along his abdomen. Lex Milan enters smoking a cigarette. “You are not supposed to smoke here,” Steve chastises him. Lex grinds out his cig and starts to strip. There is a close-up of Steve’s cock. Lex’s hand encompasses it. Their scene begins. Once again one is fascinated by the tightness of Lex’s foreskin. There is mutual fellatio before Lex’s cock goes where the sun don’t shine. This scene does not equal the sofa scene between Dane and Damon—few can—and once again, I found a scene too short. (Are they curtailing these last two scenes so they can fit on a VHS tape? If so, we are watching DVDs so gives us the full scenes!) Lex has a nasty exit. “Fuck you!” he snarls at Steve. (I thought he just did.) We then see him lighting a cigarette; and, taking Steve’s photograph, he grinds his cigarette out in an eye before setting the photograph a-blaze.

The extras feature a model section where we can view magazine layout type photos of each of the modes. There is also a scene section with still photos of the scenes. A preview of the studios film Dreams is include.

I loved this studio's AQUA and deplored their SWITCHED, which I found incomprehensible and too artsy-fartsy. With this one, however, they appear to be back on track. BLAZE will definitely light your fires.
