This is a dreamy, slow-moving couples feature from Michael Ninn. The theme is one of voyeurism and behind-the-scenes investigation, where we get a "Self Portrait" of sultry blonde porn star Georgia Adair. The movie begins with her in hair curlers and no makeup talking about the scenes she is about to do.

The sex scenes are interspersed with interview segments to give the film a slight documentary feel. After Georgia is in the makeup chair, we get a tease segment where Georgia looks hot (fully dressed) on a staircase. There's music playing the whole time and it reminds be of some kind of 80's music video. Everything is dream-like and blurry.

The film is decidedly more softcore than I'm used to but Georgia is very attractive and her lengthy striptease was fun to watch despite the camera effects and music. She gets naked and masturbates for us on the stairs before doing her first sex scene with a guy in front of some large windows.

During the sex scenes, the music stops and the heat factor of the movie rises. Unfortunately all the sex is performed with a condom which is a personal turn-off. It's also reminiscent of softcore movies in the way it is shot, very artistically, with shadowy lighting and a grainy film feel. The facial cumshot is filmed in slow-motion.

Blonde porn veteran Sharon Wild is up next for a tease segment in similar slow-motion in a lavish mansion with guitar music playing in the background. Georgia is filming her with a hand-held camcorder. There's a voyeuristic feel to the sex as Georgia films and watches the whole time while Sharon fucks a guy, including doggy anal. The sex is hot as Sharon jerks him off onto her face.

The third scene is the weakest in my opinion. It's a girl-girl one with Georgia and Justine Joli. Georgia films her in another lengthy introduction (some in black and white) before they perform a tepid Lesbian scene. Both girls stretch out on a wooden railing on a balcony and get their pussies licked. There's some brief dildo play with a clear glass red one.

Georgia interviews Dominica about her upcoming DP scene. It's all in black and white as the two stars playfully banter with one another about Dominica's porn career. Georgia has "more intense orgasms" when she gets it anally! Georgia persuades Dominica to teach her some dirty words in Czech.

More of the same as Georgia films Dominica getting undressed. After what seems like forever Dominica is getting plowed on a bed in DP by two condomed guys as Georgia (fully clothed) peers over and films all the action. Dominica is quite good looking and her scene is pretty solid although the slo-mo cumshots at the end tempered the heat somewhat.

Georgia returns for the last scene of the movie where she is the star. She is really very cute but I don't particularly dig her tan lines, although her body is fantastic. We certainly get lots of it during the striptease where Georgia finally comes out of the outfit she's been wearing while filming.

She does it with a long-haired guy in another room of the luxuriously appointed mansion. He eats and fucks her pussy on a love seat before removing the condom, and Georgia manually assists him to a splattered facial. The sex like the rest of the scenes in the movie is loving, passionate, and non-confrontational.

Visually, the movie is stunning; all the scenes were shot in a house with incredible architecture and eye-catching furniture and art work. Everything has a very high-class feel unlike your average churned-out gonzo release. Michael Ninn puts a lot of effort into his films and it shows in the final product. The cinematography is very well done also, if the sex is not that inspired.

The behind-the-scenes section is fun to watch, and logically focuses on the busty Georgia. We get some nice photo shoot footage and things like Georgia trying on different outfits, and the cast enjoying some lunch. Ninn films this portion like the rest of the movie, with even quicker jump cuts all the time which is exhilarating but disorienting. The documentary mood of the movie continues as Georgia herself is interviewed about her career by the director.

"Self Portrait" suffers slightly in my estimation from the same things that plague a lot of so-called 'couples' movies. In an effort to lend everything a sophisticated, artistic air, the heat of the sexual action suffers. The music, the unnecessary black and white segments, the very lengthy striptease introductions, and the softened camera effects will all probably alienate the average gonzo fan or raincoater.

But, couples or people who are tired of the copy-cat feel of much of today's porn will find a lot to like in "Self Portrait." Georgia herself is very attractive and pretty much carries the feature on her presence alone. The sets are incredible and the camera work and video quality are also top rate. The movie does feel like it is very slow-moving though, so people who like their porn with a lot of tease, and want everything to take a while to develop might like Ninn's style.
