Back in the 70s there was a slew of erotic fairy tales and similar style stories, from Bill Osco's hardcore musical Alice in Wonderland to Michael Pataki's softcore musical Cinderella to less fairy tale specific ventures such as the softcore Fairy Tales from Harry Hurwitz. For a period, such works were ripe for the erotic treatment often offering new fun adult takes on the fairy tale. The flow of these films dried up as fast as it started leaving a genre still ripe for adult plundering mostly vacant over the years.

Enter Harry Sparks' Beauty and the Beast XXX, a feel good adult movie retelling of Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve's 1740 Le Belle et la Bête. Despite the “An Erotic Fairy Tale Parody” subtitle given to the movie on the DVD box, I far prefer the title card subtitle of “An Erotic Tale” since it is far more appropriate for the movie contained here. Beauty and the Beast XXX is not a parody or comedy but is actually a rather faithful retelling of Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont's 1756 version of the fairy tale with eroticism thrown in at times when it fits.

A loved prince (Xander Corvus) is turned into a beast by Scarlet (August Ames), a gypsy witch. Albert (James Bartholet), a merchant, is going to try to salvage the contents of one of his ships and asks his daughters Millicent (Dani Daniels), Felicia (Dani Daniels), and Belle (Dani Daniels) what they would like. Unlike her sisters who ask for extravagant gifts, Belle just asks for a rose. Along the way Albert gets lost and ends up at the beast's castle, where he finds a rose. The beast catches him taking the rose and imprisons him in the castle. Belle goes out looking for her father and finds him and the beast who imprisoned him.

While Sparks is clearly working with a smaller budget than the 70s counterparts of this movie, he does well within his budget. He heavily uses CGI, which he uses well and that gives the movie a nice fairy tale vibe that he probably couldn't have otherwise created with his budget. The set pieces used work well too creating a visually pleasing movie. Beauty and the Beast XXX is beautifully shot and the finished movie looks nice and is fun to watch.

Not only is the story fun, but Sparks has done a great job with the sex scenes as well. The sex scenes fit in well with the story and while some are on the longer side, don't pull too much from the narrative. Sparks has included a wide variety of scenes, from solo masturbation, to girl on girl, to boy on girl, which makes for a good adult movie. The performers have great energy during their sex scenes as well as doing a great job with their acting roles.

Beauty and the Beast XXX isn't as good as Sparks' earlier adult masterpiece Revenge of the Petites, however, it is a fun adult fantasy movie that entertains the viewer with a fun story and some nice looking and varied sex scenes. If you like a story to go with your adult entertainment, Beauty and the Beast XXX won't let you down.

Exquisite Films has made some mistakes in the creation of this two disc DVD edition. Beauty and the Beast XXX is presented in the anamorphic widescreen ratio of 1.78:1. The video for the movie is problematic. I am not sure what caused some of the issues present in the video but from time to time small lines (pink/red at the top of the screen, peach in the middle of the screen, and purple, pink and blue at the bottom of the screen) appear on the screen. The different color sets appear at different times. The bit rate also appears to be too low at some points during the film. There are also some points where it looks like the disc is interlaced instead of progressive scan, causing a blocky looking image at times. Beauty and the Beast XXX was shot in HD so I'm not sure if the issues came in during the post production or if Exquisite messed up the master for the disc. Beauty and the Beast XXX should have looked much better than this.

Beauty and the Beast XXX is presented with an English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo track. Dialog is clear and can be heard at all times during the presentation. Unfortunately only a Stereo track is included and there isn't a Surround track included. Given the material being presented, a Surround track would have added to the movie presentation.

Exquisite Films has fallen short with the extras on this release. The movie is contained entirely on the first disc with all of the extras on the second disc. There is a photo gallery contained on the disc. There is a bonus sex scene from Rezervoir Doggs with Chanel Preston and Xander Corvus that runs for 21 minutes. An extra titled the “Exquisite Films Sampler” contains the softcore version of Batgirl XXX that runs for 36 minutes and the softcore version of Iron Man XXX that runs for 30 minutes. The major issue here is that the bulk of the extras listed on the DVD box are missing from the release. The box stated there were two photo galleries, only one is on the disc, and also listed an “FX reel,” a “Gag Reel,” and the non-sex version of Beauty and the Beast XXX. None of which are present on the release itself.

While the extras included on the release aren't horrible, I would have preferred to have had the promised “FX Reel,” “Gag Reel,” and the non-sex version of Beauty and the Beast XXX. Especially the “FX Reel” since it would have been fun to to have seen some of the green screen work being done.

Beauty and the Beast XXX is an enjoyably done adult version of Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont's version of the French fairy tale Le Belle et la Bête. Harry Sparks has used CGI to create the fantasy world that the movie takes place in. The cast does a great job with their roles creating an entertaining movie. Exquisite Films' DVD release has some issues with missing extras and problems with the video transfer. Overall, Beauty and the Beast XXX is still worth picking up despite the DVD issues.
