With the price of gas these days I may be a bit over-sensitive about price gauging. However, when a VHS is reissued onto DVD and the price is considerably more than it ever was when the film was on VHS then I think it’s time to scream about being ripped off. After all it’s not like they have to pay the performers or director. They were paid 25 years ago. And the cost of manufacturing a DVD is less that the cost of manufacturing a VHS. So why the top line price for a dupe? Good old American GREED, that’s why.
Now this is not to say the film under discussion here is bad. Far from it. But under the circumstances it should not have the same list price as a new DVD.
Produced originally in 1988, BARE TALES was one of the last of the pre-condom films before the AIDS scare sent panic throughout the industry. (At least one of these performers succumbed to that plague.)

At the film’s opening we find hunky Jim Pulver who sent my hormones moaning in my younger days (and still does, I’ve discovered viewing this) strolls out onto his elevated deck nude to display his wares for a stalker. The voyeur—armed with binoculars—is a handsome stud and one hopes that at the film’s end Jim will have his end. But that is not to be. As Jim sits in a chair and starts stroking his enviable endowment Jim tells us tales about his pals. It’s the old cliché of linking otherwise disconnected sex scenes.

The first tale features Chris Williams, a very desirable young blond, and Brian Estevez (appearing here under his other nom de porn Michael Wayne). Michael/Brian was one of those skinny twinks who claimed to be straight, but always ended up end up. Both are outside sunning themselves when Michael tells Chris it’s OK to soak up some sun in the nude. Chris drops his Speedos and walks over to Michael who gladly accepts Chris’ cock between his lips. We cut to them in the bedroom. There, on a double bed, they 69 and engage in a double-fuck.

The second tale consists of a hot little threesome. J T Denver who looks like the country boy we all dreamed about (at least I did and do) is getting it on with a young mustachioed twink when young blond Steve Ross comes in to join them. Both J T and Steve fuck the unfamiliar newcomer. J T briefly puts his big dick up Steve while Steve is busy fucking the other guy.

In the third of our tales, Rod Phillips and another guy (who probably made only this one film) are playing strip poker. (How’s that for an original ploy, he said sarcastically.) I guess they are no real winners or losers in the game. Rod fucks the other performer. (The blond curly-haired muscular Rod died of AIDS in 1993, ten years after the film was made. So maybe there was a loser in this game.)

Finally comes the scene we have all been waiting for. The coupling of Jim with the beautiful young Kevin Williams. (This was not their only film together because they fit together well.) Kevin comes by looking for Jim’s brother. As Jim who is up on the deck squats down to talk to Kevin, Jim’s cock—accidentally on purpose—slips out the leg of his shorts. Kevin reaches up and grabs it. The next thing we know Kevin is inside sucking that cock. Jim swallows down Kevin's as well. And now the strangest thing happens. Jim puts on a condom, but when he’s fucking Kevin he’s fucking bareback. The cock comes out of Kevin’s ass and goes back in and there’s no condom on it! Why did we see him put one on? Was it to say to the viewer this is what we should do and wear one when we fuck, but as for these performers they’d as soon wear a raincoat in the shower as a condom when fucking. Anyway Kevin is thoroughly pulverized in a lot of different positions—without that condom.

We return to the frame where Jim and his voyeur both beat off. What a pity these two didn’t get together rather than this anti-climactic finale.

I normally don’t put the suggested price of film with my reviews unless I wish to make a point. I do wish to make a point here. $19.95 is the maximum they should charge for this one considering the fact that marketing this film cost them no more than it did for me to buy a used car. I hardly think Tyger films which has not paid these performers in over twenty years should charge more. Glad I rented.
