Initial Expectations: I picked this one up on the basis of its name alone. I know nothing about it, but how could I pass this one by?????

Initial Reaction: It didn’t work overly well for me, but it has a nice idea behind it and is one of the best goth movies I’ve seen.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects didn’t impress me right from the start. The picture was grainy and didn’t even synch with the audio. Thankfully it only stays that bad during the musical performances. During the sex, the audio is nicely balanced, synchs with the video, and doesn’t have any noticeable background noises. The video is also nicely artistic and moody, and often goes with a tinted style that works very well for the movie.

Music: The music varies in balance nicely throughout the movie. It drops into the background nicely during the sex scenes and then comes forward to varying levels during the non-sex portions. It’s also all provided by the goth band Astrovamps.

Disc Complaints: There’s no time stamp, which severely limits the DVD navigation. The DVD also doesn’t have chapters, and instead gives each scene its own title. This makes the DVD even harder to navigate.

Menus: The main menu is pretty generic and combines a bit of the movie with a still. The chapter menu keeps things almost the same, and lets you choose a scene based on listing scene numbers in text. It’s far from impressive.

The Feature

The Astrovamps are a goth band. As with all bands, there are plenty of girls willing to throw pussy at them whether they’re in a club or walking down the street. The cameras follow them as they make a few conquests, as well as getting in a bit of a documentary on the band.

Scene 1 - A dirty blonde goth chick, Courtney Chambers, Daniel Ian, Eyajo Joseph, and Riff

This is a surprisingly good scene. I’ll admit that the goth styles don’t do anything for me, but everything in the scene plays very well towards it. There’s nice chemistry all around and the camera work isn’t too bad. It mixes porn and music very well, and even throws in a few music video effects. The one guy popping and the break in the middle is easily the biggest problem in the scene. This is a pretty good scene, and gets the movie off to a pretty good start.

Scene 2 - A Black Chick and a guy

A black chick in black and white stockings, white shoes, and a black corset carrying a doll dressed the same picks up one of the band guys and takes him home next. They kiss as they get inside the apartment and soon after he’s driving his tongue into her twat as she lies back on the bed for him while still clutching her doll. This scene didn’t do a lot for me. The girl was pretty hot, but the doll thing just didn’t do anything for me. It did look like she had a little bit of gapage at the end, but I just can’t be sure. His limp dick slapping around her afterwards also didn’t do anything for me. Scene 3 - Jessica, Daniel Ian, and Riff

At one of the clubs the Astrovamps play Jessica comes up to meet the guys. She’s a short haired brunette in a black outfit complete with a studded collar. Scene 5 - Vandalia, Daniel Ian, and Eyajo Joseph

Vandalia has a killer ass and an all around nice body, and once again I couldn’t help but wish that she’d be with somebody who could really show what she could do.

Scene 6 - A brunette, Riff, the manager, Vandalia, Daniel Way, and Eyajo Joseph

This is a slightly above average scene. Once again, there’s some good chemistry but Eyajo holds the scene back by not being able to deliver a full scene. Vandalia continues to be very impressive, and the other girl isn’t bad either. This is an okay scene, but was a little too scattershot for me.

Astrovamps Gothick Horror Sex Show is a very different movie for me. The Goth style does very little for me and I went into the movie expecting very little other than it to be artistic. Heck, I didn’t even read the back cover on it! Although I might not be into the Goth style, it’s not hard to see that the makers of the movie definitely are into it, and they put some nice care into the details. I like how they use the framework of following the band around for the movie, and the guys did a pretty good job. I know I wasn’t happy with Eyajo’s job here, but I can also give him a bit of a break because it was the first time he’d been on video like this. There’s no way it could be an easy thing for him, and it took plenty of courage as well. Almost all of the girls did a very nice job. Vandalia easily took the cake, but I like that there was a good variety of looks and body styles, as well as Goth outfits. As for problems, there were many areas that felt a little too choppy. I also didn’t care for how they seemed to end one scene poorly only to have it continue a little later as the next scene was brought into it. Astrovamps Gothick Horror Sex Show definitely won’t be for everybody, but if you’re a Goth fan this one should be put very close to the top of your list.

The Extra Stuff

There’s about twenty six minutes of bonus interviews. The director starts things out talking about one of his first experiences with Daniel and the Astrovamps before introducing the band. He talks with Daniel about the band and what drew him into the Goth scene. The entire band comes in for a talk about religion, including numerology, Wiccan, and Satanism, as well as why they decided to do an adult movie. They talk about touring and where they want to go in the world as well as some of their other jobs. This is a very well done interview segment that shows a lot of care.

Currently, Astrovamps Gothick Sex Horror Show can be found online for about $11. At this price this one’s well worth checking out if you’re a goth fan. It’s obviously made by somebody who’s into the Goth lifestyle and captures it and the sex nicely. The technical aspects falter a little, but there’s some nice effort put into the extras. This is a different and nicely done DVD.

Note to Bordellonoir: It’s very cool that you tried something different here. In the future, please work on your authoring a little better so that you can have a full time stamp and real chapters. You might also consider doing real credits and including a video or two from the band in the extras.
