Initial Expectations: VCA normally puts together a great DVD and I always look forward to watching Asia, but the rest of the cast has brought my hopes up even higher.

Initial Reaction: It’s pretty good but nothing special.

Audio /Video Quality: The audio is very clear and well balanced. There’s some slight noise during the outdoor scene but that’s the only real problem with the audio. The video looks just as good as the audio sounds. There’s a little bit of pixelation during the outdoor scene but that’s about it.

Music: The music is pretty standard and very quiet in the background so that I barely knew it was there.

Review: Asia Is In Too Deep revolves around married couple Asia and Herschel Savage. They’re very much in love and doing very well, but Herschel wants Asia to sleep with another woman while he watches which is interfering with their marriage. They’ve tried watching pornos, but the lesbian scenes always seemed too fake and never turned on Asia. Things aren’t going too far until Asia finds out that Herschel was paid for a job they did by getting to sleep with two top porn stars. In retaliation, Asia sleeps with Gwen Summers, a lesbian who’s redecorating their house. Much to Asia’s surprise, she finds out that she likes it maybe a little too much. It’s a fairly simple plot, but the cast’s talent raises it up a notch with very good and very human acting.

Although the sex has a bit more lesbian action than normal, it still remains couples friendly. Things start off on a very couples friendly note between Asia and Herschel. It sets some of the tone with their relationship. It’s not too fancy, but it gets the job done. Asia really shines in this scene. You can tell that she’s really having a lot of fun. Herschel, however, is just kind of there. I admit that this scene didn’t do much for me when I first watched it but it’s grown on me. The personalities of Herschel and Asia really come out. You can tell that Herschel’s kind of bored with Asia. Unlike many other parts of the world, he’s still allowed to live despite this travesty against nature. Asia, however, is perfectly happy and wants to please her husband. Although not a great scene at first, it improves with age.

Gwen and her girlfriend / business partner Ava Vincent appear in the next scene. As Gwen says, she’s very aggressive and Ava is very passive. Although I didn’t expect it to be, this might have been my favorite scene in the movie. The chemistry between Gwen and Ava is really great and the scene ends up being a lot of fun between Gwen’s aggressive nature and Ava’s passiveness. There aren’t any toys in the scene, but with the heat these two ladies generated it wasn’t needed.

Alec Metro and Allysin Chaynes perform for Herschel on a porno set he’s visiting in the third scene. This was an okay scene but it didn’t have the feel of the porno set. You never see Herschel or any of the crew. You don’t even see a boom mic in the top of the screen. It seems like a typical porno scene. The sex is good and Allysin looks very hot, but it just doesn’t feel quite right for what it should be.

Next, Herschel gets his pound of flesh, or perhaps that should be pound of silicone with Bridgette Kerkove and her horribly fake tits in the scene. Luckily Kaylynn, who I’m starting to enjoy more, also takes a part in the scene. The ladies start off taking care of each other while Herschel shows why he’s in front of the camera instead of behind it as he pretends to be a porn director. Despite Bridgette’s horrible disfigurement she’s incredibly hot in this scene. She doesn’t waste any time with vaginal sex and goes straight to the anal. Kaylynn, on the other hand does vaginal before masturbating and helping Bridgette as she gets her ass fucked. It’s a pretty hot scene and was better than I originally expected it to be.

Asia gets back at Herschel for fucking Bridgette and Kaylynn in the next scene by taking on Gwen. The chemistry and energy in this scene make it a winner, which shouldn’t be any surprise to anybody who’s watched these two lovely ladies in other scenes. My only complaint with the scene was the lack of toys in it made it almost seem a little long. For those out there who don’t want to see any toys in all girl scenes it’s sure to be a winner.

Not being a complete idiot, Herschel figures out that something’s going on but he can’t figure out quite what. He thinks Asia is having an affair but he doesn’t have any idea who it could be with. His imagination runs a little wild and he finally thinks it’s the pizza guy. Thankfully he imagines what probably happened between Asia and pizza guy Chris Cannon. It’s a pretty good scene but nothing too special. A couple of Asia’s lines are the real highlight of the scene and fans of The Graduate are going to be on the floor.

Finally, Herschel walks in on Asia and Gwen. On his therapist’s advice he goes over to confront Gwen rather than reveling in the fact that he’s now in the same club as people such as Steve Martin. Gwen isn’t home but he does find Ava home who isn’t any too happy about their significant others hooking up. It makes for a nice grudge fuck for both of them which just happens to be videotaped. Ava looks really good in this scene which helps it out since Herschel has a huge band-aid on his stomach. It’s a fairly hot scene and a decent one to end the movie with.

Unlike most other pornos out there the loose ends are actually tied up after this scene rather than ending on a sexual note. It appears that Mr. Emerson wanted something more than the typical porno. If so, he succeeded. The sex is better than average, but the plot and characters really drive the movie, somewhat like Antonio Passolini’s Bliss only a lot more couples friendly. The main problem with the sex is what some refer to as “Old Man Herschel”. I don’t mind Herschel and think he’s a very good performer. The problem here is that he had an ingrown hair on his stomach. It’s really disgusting and made me thankful for the Band-Aid in the final scene. If it weren’t for the ingrown hair I probably would have raised up the male looks by a full point and the sex by a half point.

I admit that I was a little disappointed with Asia Is In Too Deep until the last few minutes of the movie, and I don’t just mean having real credits (although that always helps things out for me also). The sex was a little better than most pornos but not much. This would be fine except that I normally have fairly high expectations out of both Asia and VCA. It had a bit of The Real World style to it with the cast talking to the camera between showing what happened, but it didn’t seem to really go anywhere. That all changed in the last few minutes when Asia went into a small warning about the dangers of having your wife experiment with another woman. This brought the entire movie into focus and I ended up liking it a lot more than I had a few moments before. It also made it a lot more of a couples movie. I’m not that used to porn being thought provoking. It’s not much thought, but it is some thought and it does raise the entire movie another notch.

Extras: The photo gallery lasts almost two and a half minutes with about seven seconds per picture. All of the photos are full screen and very clear. The bios include a little personal information, a few stills, and a link to the scene for Asia Carrera, Ava Vincent, Gwen Summers, and Bridgette Kerkove. The behind the scenes lasts about two and a quarter minutes and shows a lot of the fun on the set and Gwen and Herschel botching lines. You also find out why Herschel had a bandage on his stomach in the last scene. Finally, there’s a virtual tour and internet and contact information.

Overall: Currently, Asia is In Too Deep can be found online for between $22 and $25. Although this seems just a little high fans of the cast won’t be disappointed. The story is pretty good and the cast raises it even higher. The transfer is very good and the extras are pretty good.

Note to VCA: Very good job. This seems like an average release from you and part of why I enjoy your DVDs so much. It would have been a lot better, however, if it wasn’t for Herschel’s ingrown hair.
