Synopsis:
Virginal high school cheerleader Angel (Marie McCray) tires of her small town and decides to drop out of high school and travel to L.A. where she is awakened to her own sexuality.

Audio/Video:
Angel Face contains an English 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround audio track that sounds great. The sound is consistent throughout the movie and doesn't have any loss. There aren't any foreign language tracks or subtitle options available for the film.

The video for Angel Face, presented in anamorphic widescreen at a ratio of approximately 1.78:1, looks absolutely beautiful. There are no blemishes, artifacts or glitches visible anywhere in the print and the color levels are dead on. This is probably the best transfer that I have ever seen on a disc from VCX.

Special Features:
There are a few extras included on the disc. There is a behind the scenes piece that lasts for 17 minutes that shows the photo shoot and interviews with the stars along with some footage of the movie being made. There is an 11 minute piece called cum show, which is a recap of the sex scenes in the film. There is also a photo gallery with 67 stills on a track. I would have liked to see some more informative pieces included, with Roy Karch and maybe David Sutton about reopening VCX, Ltd's studios, their return to the feature film market and where they plan to go in the future.

Disc Design/Navigation:
The disc is designed with simple, yet fully functional, menus that look nice and make navigation really easy throughout the features of the disc. The chapter menu holds 23 chapters, the same amount that are present in the feature film. Each one is identified by a video clip from where the chapter goes to. There is a time code encoded on the disc for the feature film.

General Review:
VCX, the oldest major adult film studio, holds one of the finest overall collections of classic adult titles available however they haven't been involved in making feature films in over a decade. When they broke the news that they were going to be teaming up with Roy Karch and start production on feature films again I became excited to see what they were going to come out with. Angel Face is their return to feature film making.

While Angel Face is not the tour de force I was hoping it would end up being, it is a fun story of an innocent virgin's decent into carnal knowledge and pleasure. I was hoping, since the title came from VCX, that it might return to the classic style of adult film making that has brought them their money over the years. In some aspects it does. The movie utilizes a nice collection of location shots as well as studio sets which gives the movie a nice overall look. The location shots seemed rushed though, without live sound. They would have worked better if they didn't seem so rushed and there were a few more added into the mix. For the set scenes, the lack of extras is obvious. I think the film would have worked far better with some extra, non-sex, nude cheerleaders for the locker room scene as it seems very empty as there could have been an extra diner or two at the restaurant.

The other problem with the movie is to fit in all of the sex scenes, the plot seems rather rushed along. I honestly don't know if the film would have been better being about a half hour longer or if the sex scenes had been cut down slightly to make more room for plot development, however I was disappointed with the rushed plot and wished that it had been fleshed out a little more to give viewers a little more. The story was enjoyable though and is better than the stories some feature films try to pass off.

The sex scenes are the best part of the film. In a break from the standard feature film sex scene design, Roy Karch has instead made the sex scenes fit in with the story of the film and they don't go beyond the bounds of where they should given the story. The movie starts out with a great solo scene with Dakoda Brookes that raises the sexual energy of the film and builds towards the scenes to come. The sex scenes with Marie McCray build as her sexual development does starting with a nice blow job scene and ending with the movie's culminating, and by far best, scene featuring Marie McCray and Evan Stone that is sure to leave all viewers very pleased. The other scenes included in the film are enjoyable as well, including a nicely done back-to-back girl-girl scene and boy-girl scene. There are no condoms used in the film and the sexual themes in the film are vaginal and anal sex with lesbianism, strap-on use, pussy eating, pussy fingering, female masturbation, and blow jobs.

For the most part the cast does a great job. As always Evan Stone puts in a stellar performance and Christian XXX stands out as the back alley pimp. The stand out performance in the film comes from newcomer Marie McCray, who is a helluva find for VCX. From her innocent looking unmarked body, with just a tuft of pubic hair, to her innocent sounding voice Marie doesn't disappoint and I'm sure is to become a star in the adult industry.

Parting Thoughts:
While Angel Face is not going to put VCX back on the top of feature film making, it does show that with some work they can become contenders in the fight for the top feature film company. Chances are high that long time fans of the studio, who grew up with their classic releases or who have watched them later in the comfort of their home, will end up with some disappointment after watching this film. Younger viewers who haven't seen the VCX classic library are apt to be far less disappointed as I expect they won't go into this movie with such high expectations. Either way, the movie is worth watching and will still provide viewers with quality erotic entertainment.
