Alfa is a fictional Mexican short film by writer and director Javier Ferreiro that tells a segment of Cuban porn star Alfa Méndez's life. The segment of Alfa's life that Alfa tells is right after the loss of his partner and co-star Yerry (Alain Rivalta) when he is on the first porn set since his death. On the porn set, he struggles to be able to perform while trying to move forward with his life.

Alfa is beautifully shot and utilizes excellent locations which definitely help the short movie, however, the story itself seems to drag on. This would be due to the fact that the entire segment of Alfa's life that we, the viewer, get to witness is him at one porn set. As a result, the action is rather limited and too much is done to try and work Alfa through an issue that would, in reality, take much longer than the time given to really begin to be worked through. The other issue is due to the short run time of the movie, Alpha isn't really given enough time to become a full character plus deal with his major issue within the allowed time frame.

Alfa isn't horrible, but this reviewer feels that too much time was spent going toward an ending that, frankly, wasn't wonderful. The ending is understandable, in a way, however, in another way it really isn't. As long as you go in not expecting a lot, Alfa is okay but your world won't end if you pass on this short movie.

The edition of Alfa screened is the streaming-only edition available on NakedSword. NakedSword Film Works has done a good job with their streaming-only edition of Alfa. Alfa appears to have been shot digitally and is presented in the anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1 in 1080p. The image looks astounding with a nice crisp and clear picture and great colors.

Alfa is presented with a Spanish Stereo audio track. The short movie sounds good and the dialog is clear and easy to understand at all times. There are English subtitles included for the short movie.

NakedSword Film Works hasn't included any extras for their streaming-only release of Alfa.

Alfa has been released by NakedSword through their NakedSword Film Works (NSFW) division that was launched in 2016 to exhibit gay independent movies that aren't exactly pornographic yet aren't exactly mainstream. Alfa is a Mexican short film that tells a segment of the story of Cuban porn star Alfa and his trying to cope with the loss of his partner and co-star on the set of his next porn movie. The idea is intriguing, however, the short movie seems to drag and the ending isn't as fulfilling as it could be. NakedSword Film Works has done a great job with their streaming-only edition of Alfa on NakedSword.com with excellent audio and video.
