The First Word: A fairly decent "Gen X" gonzo with a good mix of setup, believable acting, and nasty sex. Some irritation factors, but all in all, a good value.

Plot Synopsis: Action Sports Sex is a "reality" gonzo, meaning that the plot is supposed to be like vacation home video footage and seem natural to the viewer. This video manages to accomplish this better than most, but you still have no doubt this is a scripted porn flick. The premise of ASS (original acronym, huh), is that Robby D. and Pat Myne steal a professional grade video camera from a guy filming surfers on the beach. We even get to see them taunting the victim as they speed off, as the dumbass who lost the camera sprints off after their car. Uh, okay, like I'm supposed to believe that!

So, what do they do with their electronic booty? Why, take it with them and film wild and crazy sex with it. Their first stop is a surf shop, where there just happen to be a bunch of porn starletts shopping for clothes. Naturally, there are no dressing rooms, so the girls are encouraged to change clothes in front of five guys and a video camera. Sabrina Johnson (the current gangbang world record holder, BTW) decides to try on Mr. Marcus and Jake Steed, while Caroline checks out "Team Whiteboy" (Steve Taylor and Don Upton). Meanwhile, the other two girls (Shelbee Mine and Angelica de la Sol) just want to buy something. "Um, can someone help us check out?" they ask Team Whiteboy, who is busy screwing Caroline at the time. This sets up the main storyline of the gonzo: Robby D. and Pat try to pick up Shelbee and Angelica (who both do a good job at acting bitchy and standoffish).

Next, Robby and Pat go on a snowboarding trip to the local mountains. On the way, guess who they run into at the gas station? Yep, Shelbee and Angelica. Pat tries to act smooth and makes his play on them, but the girls end up zooming off, more pissed off than ever. Of course, we're not surprised when both groups arrive at the same ski cabin, apparently double booked for the weekend. Deciding to make the best of it, they all agree to share the cabin. It's all smooth sailing from there, with a quick lesbian tease from Shelbee and Angelica, followed by "kiss & make up" sessions between Angelica/Robby and Shelbee/Pat. The segment closes out with the required gonzo filler footage of the group hitting the slopes on their snowboards. There's one more scene between Pat and Shelbee that's, um, unforgettable (more on this later).

After the snow weekend, it's back to the beach, where they end up in a surfboard factory looking for Rick Master's overdue board, which is being shaped. That's when we meet the ever lovely girl next door, Inari Vachs. She may look like the girl next door, but she's got the heart of the neighborhood slut, as she proceeds to suck off her boyfriend and three other guys who just "happen" to be there.

The video ends with surfer Steve Hatcher picking up two bikini-clad, roller bladers (Barrett Moore and Azlea). We learn that they happen to be Las Vegas strippers (that explains the massive implants). I guess that also explains why they are willing to go with Steve to his ratty VW Bus in the parking lot and have a spontaneous threeway.

Notable Performances: While not a wall-to-wall smoker, the sex scenes in Action Sports Sex are better than I had expected, especially for a Vivid Raw production. The first scene of note is between Robby D. (who films the action himself) and Angelica de la Sol. Robby discovers Angelica in bed, masturbating with a Pocket Rocket and a wicked looking anal toy. In addition to the extended foreplay with the toy, the boy-girl anal scene is fun to watch, probably because it looks like both of them are into the act. The scene ends with a cumshot on her lip, but what takes the cake is her genuinely surprised reaction when Robby groans "Wait!" and she asks, "You mean there's more?!?" :)

The second coupling between Pat and Shelbee Mine is memorable, not just because of the energetic anal pounding, but the ending. First off, Pat ends up coming inside Shelbee's butt--a so-called anal creampie. But then she stands up, squats over his face, and he opens his mouth wide. I'm sure you can figure out what happens next. Hey, I said "memorable" not necessarily "enjoyable"--it's definitely something you don't see every day, nor something that two people who "just met" are likely to engage in.

Finally, I'm a huge fan of Inari, and she's in true form for her scene. By Presidential standards, she doesn't even have sex with any of the guys :), but she does give her enthusastic and sloppy blowjobs that have become her trademark. I have to admit that the group of guys that she has to work with are less than ideal, but it doesn't diminish her performance any. And just like the pseudo-felching scene, Inari's has a unique ending: rather than the traditional facial pop shots, all of the guys shoot in her hair. She then picks up a hairbrush and begins to brush it in like hairgel. Pretty creative--I'll bet anyone who sees this scene will remember it next time they are debating whether to buy another Action Sports Sex DVD.

Dislikes: The video isn't without its problems. Obviously, we know that the setups are bullshit. Fortunately, the performers don't come across as "acting," so watching the plot footage doesn't drive you nuts like it would if you knew that the plot was BS and the people were reciting lines. Another problem is the vocabulary the guys use--they sound like inner city gang wannabees. I know that this video is targeted at a younger porn audience, but most of us Gen Xers don't talk like homeboys, nor is every other word out of our mouths either "shit" or "fuck." I hope that Robby D. is only putting on the homeboy act for this series or else I weep for our future.

Action Sports Sex also has its share of the standard porn turn-offs, at least for me: anal gapes, jacking off to a climax, cumshots in the eye, and oral cumshots when it's clear that the girl can't wait for the director to yell "Cut!" so she can run to a sink to spit and use mouthwash. Then there's the scene where Pat gets back the sperm that he dumped into Shelbee's ass a minute before--that's likely to send most guys to their shrinks to undo the psychological damage.

DVD Notes: Pretty decent transfer considering Raw's track record--I've learned not to expect great things from Vivid. Fortunately, there are no major problems with the mastering. You've got the standard Vivid side 2 extras, with a bunch of random video clips and some trailers thrown in. Nothing to write home about, especially if you already own Wave or Raw titles.

The Last Word: I'm going to keep this title in my collection, which means that it's got more going for it than not. It's a good value--you should be able to find it for less than $15. But obviously, if you don't like gonzos or if you think you'll need professional help after watching some of the things I've mentioned, you'll probably want to steer clear. Saki
