  Some good stuff here. How much space do you have available on each of your drives? The closer to 15% you get, the worse the performance gets. Try clearing up your Desktop by deleting unnecessary stuff and consolodate as many things into folders as possible from your Desktop and everywhere else on the computer. Loose files all over the place don't help. Then try these two things if you already don't have them. I've posted about these in the past somewhere in another thread.   Walter's thread touched on some of my issues, but not all. After doing a search of the site, I thought I'd start a new thread. Here's my situation: My current Windows XP PC is having some issues and I'm looking to replace it with a Windows 7 one. One of the things I'm looking to improve is the playback of large ( > 1Gb files ) that reside on an external hard drive. As in Walter's situation, playback will freeze at times, especially when using the slider bar to move ahead in the video. I'm trying to figure out where I get the most bang for the buck, and where I might be approaching overkill.
