  That was a very nice article dumblonde, if for no other reason than your sticking up for that poor guy who gave this miracle stuff a try. Unfortunately, it doesn't really seem like an accident that ads for snake oil like this and porn go hand-in-hand. A lot of porn plots also play on men's insecurities.   I think I agree with half of your argument, Phallusee. I think porn IS responding to market forces when we see more gonzo and shock-type stuff out on the market, but I'm not sure this is necessarily in response to some sort of primal perversion intrinsic to human nature that has been recently awakened, accidentally or otherwise. Couldn't it be something simpler, say, like the relative ease these days with which any shmuck can buy their own digital camera and video editing software? I think a more plausible reason why gonzo and the msyogynistic crap seems to fill the market has more to do with how easily (and cheaply) it's produced. No plot, no script, no coaching, no expensive actors, no effects/soundtrack, no elaborate costumes/locations....

  I think it's kinda pointless to quibble about grade inflation. Do you think everyone here who writes a review is a porn expert? Besides everyone's obvious differences in taste, we all have different familiarity with porn movies in general as well. Some people have seen so many movies, they're walking porn encyclopedias. Others haven't seen quite so much, and for that reason I'd guess they unknowingly "inflate" their ratings simply because they enjoyed the movie. Afterwards, when these same people see a few more movies and realize what better quality productions are out there, they continue to award high scores, never going back to change their initial review ratings to reflect their broader experience (is it even possible to do s...

I've totally turned around my opinion on this movie. I was expecting dorky and I was very, very pleasantly surprised at how much care was given to make this really match the feel of the book. The casting was outstanding for all but a few parts. Saruman & Gandalf alone earn this movie it's first star!   Steph -- The comment did appear to be directed at me, as I was the one who ordered before Thanksgiving, not the original poster. Sorry about the language. I thought I had recalled reading somewhere in the guidelines that as this was an adult board, we were all adults here and free to use such language in moderation. I thought "assface" and "jackass", being sillier epithets, might have been more acceptable. At any rate, Dr. Evil's reply was rude--to whomever it was directed--and at the very least, merits "jerk".   I think Astroknight was right in suggesting that the delay was likely due to Thanksgiving. I placed an order with DVDAdvantage the Wednesday prior, and actually didn't receive my order until yesterday. My ship notification notice didn't come until Monday, which is unusual, since with all other orders I placed with these guys I received the ship notification the following day. I'm guessing they could have just closed shop for a couple days and then been swamped with a backlog of orders. If it helps any, they included with my last order a "Vivid Interactive Sampler" DVD...I don't know why, but possibly it was a way of saying, "Whoops! Sorry about the delay! Enjoy!" Maybe you have one coming, too.
