  I was purchasing a few dvds for a bachelor party in NY recently (the 1st ones I bought in a store in years). I was talking to mgr about how business was and he told me it was bad, that majority of his customers are older individuals (who are not internet savvy) or for bachelor parties and stuff. He told his lease is up in two years and he does expect to renew. He thought that the retail business for porno was be gone shortly.

  Amazon Wish lists is another source of income (it a form of business and is managed as such) for porno stars, those who publize that their wishlists are rather open that they send back thanks notes or will send back a gift - such as photo of the clothes if that what was bought or signed photos, etc. Some are very aggresive in asking for stuff some or not - it all depends on the performer. Personally, I have never sent a gift or would send a gift, their is a line between reality and fantasy that sending a gift for me for me would be jumping over the line.

  The reality of the modern porn industry, unless a performer dances on side or does something else on side such as escorting (which is a personal decision that more and more younger performers do) they are finding it tougher and tougher to make a living. Why do you think so many performers use twitter to announce amazon wish lists or performe in their home via web cam. I friend who worked in dvd production for one major players and feeling was that the performer who is only interested in performering on film and not do any of the other stuff, can not survive and will not be around in a couple of years.

  The main reason is money, most porn stars can not post scenes they are on their websites they do own the content, so in order to make money they would have to shoot new stuff and it just too expensive / competitve.

  with recent developments in porno industry: 1)illegal downloading 2) online free content 3) hiv scare where does everyone see the industry in five yrs, personally I think at some point performers (the ones that say in, suspect because of above a bunch will leave)will eliminate the studios and see directly to consumers online. I think decision that will decide what happens industry is illegal downloading, how the court rule in these cases will really decide the future of porno. not sure what the adult industry has been so aggresive while mainstream has been so passive.
