- Stoya vs Tori Black 1/13/2009 5:44:35 AM Tori is great, but Stoya has a star quality about her that porn actresses very rarely have (Sasha Grey being another exception). She was one of the most worthy winners at the whole show.
- Club Jenna Feedback 4/4/2008 3:28:19 AM Two points: (1) Presentation: Far too many club jenna movies have been released in letterboxed widescreen. An anamorphic presentation should be a given by now. At least if I'm going to buy a movie, I expect it to be anamorphic widescreen. (2) Aesthetics: hair, makeup, clothing, jewelery; these things tend not to have a very contemporary look in club jenna movies, it feels like one is stuck in the nineties. Take a look at some digital playground stuff, it tends to look stylish in a way that doesn't looks like a daytime soap opera vision of luxury.
- Wicked Girls never cum 4/3/2008 3:21:14 AM I tend to think that most female porn orgasms are fake, and at any rate as a viewer it's hard to tell a real one from a fake one. But even if they are mostly fake, it is a bit odd that Wicked chooses not to have them in their scenes. Personally, I've been watching less Wicked films in the last few years than I used to, but one thing I had a feeling of was that there is less cunnilingus in their films compared to before, although I'm not sure. Couples porn has never had a truly equal focus on male and female pleasure, but perhaps it's becoming even more geared towards mainly men than it used to be.
- SexZ Pictures and Eli Cross Want Your Opinions 2/3/2008 5:49:47 AM Given the type of sex this film will inevitably feature, campy horror would be an ill fit; one could certainly make that type of horror porn, but then the sex should probably be more playful than the sex in Upload or Corruption. I should perhaps say that I'm not a big fan of genre-driven horror films to begin with; they tend to be a bit like porn, the difference being that a certain number of killings must take place instead of a certain number of sex scenes. There is a ritualistic rhythm that shapes the narrative structure and usually stands in the way of telling an interesting story. The best horror-type movies to my mind are films like Alien, Rosemary's Baby, and The Shining, which all have a different type of structure (and which also t...
- Film is Dead, Long Live Film 1/14/2008 2:34:21 PM The only real loser here is Vivid, they'll have a harder time winning AVN awards once the film categories are dropped. If you look at the nominations for the film categories this year it was just silly, a small number of Vivid films getting most of the nominations. These categories just had Paul Thomas competing with himself. Film when done well can look great, but that's never been the case with these Vivid features anyway, so there's no reason to keep an incentive for them to produce them. At any rate, you can certainly still shoot an ambitious quality feature on digital video and since mainstream is moving that way as well the death of film as a porn medium won't drive any further edge between porn and mainstream. Film in porn has been d...
- The grey area between couples' porn and men's porn 1/13/2008 2:55:50 PM Kensington Chapp wrote: To me, people seem to believe that any porn with a good-looking chap in it is couple's porn. Quite a lot of so-called couple's porn feature more or less the same hard-to-believe match-ups as gonzo, it's just that the women are treated a bit more respectfully. There are sooo many scenes that have been ruined for me by the lack of believability that people talk about in this thread. But this just seems to be a perennial fact about porn, ugly older dudes fucking hot young chicks. Perhaps a lot of guys get turned on by the fact that a hot girl is gotten to fuck beneath her, or perhaps it's just that they can more easily imagine fucking the girl themselves if the guy on screen looks rather less-than-average (sort of lik...
- The interviews/introductions before the scene? 12/15/2007 2:25:07 AM Is this a poll, btw? Anyway, I tend to find that those interviews often ruin the whole freewheeling gonzo feel, it makes the whole thing look just as staged as it actually is. When girls mechanically explain how much they love, say, dp then I'll just get the feeling they probably really don't, which is not a good way to start watching a scene that might feature, say, dp. Advice to gonzo directors: either have some playful scenario before the scene or just get on with it.
- troubles for porn industry... 12/9/2007 2:39:59 AM BigBobxxx wrote: If something bad happened to Jenna Jameson, God forbid, it would be all over the media... especially FOX as they decry her and the industry... endlessly Agreed. Jenna is the poster girl of the entire industry, the example of how you can enter porn and become rich and famous. She and Tera Patrick are probably the only two really newsworthy profiles in porn. These other people and events, however tragic, simply aren't. Eventually, they might perhaps turn up in some negative documentary about porn, but that's nowhere near a media field day.
- AVN Best New Starlet Nominee SCANDAL 12/8/2007 5:32:51 PM Chester Kingwood wrote: How does a girl get nominated for the Best New Starlet award when her XXX filming and live XXX cam shows started in 2004? Well, maybe because she didn't become a Starlet until the last year. No offense, but being an Anal Ring Toss Girl sounds like flying under the radar. I'm really not a fan of Shane's World (partially because I get annoyed at how fake the reality angle is), but if a mainstream actress did some high-school plays a couple of years ago she could still be considered newcomer of the year if this was the first year she did real Hollywood productions.
- Top adult stars you don't find attractive 12/8/2007 2:25:12 PM cobra887 wrote: The central problem is that Political Correctness creeps into every facet of American culture, including porn. Everybody has different tastes and variety is great, but the whole MILF thing is a great example of twisting the truth....most guys simply want younger attractive women (18-26) that smile and appear to enjoy what they are doing. Yes, it's really outrageous. Nowadays there's virtually no porn produced with teens that smile and act like they enjoy what they're doing. Women over 30 having sex on screen? What is the world coming to?
- Too many lazy male performers in porn 12/8/2007 2:19:17 PM I'm starting to get confused: is some of the comedy in this thread actually unintentional? But then maybe I'm just a lazy reader, not ready to give some of these posters the attention they are begging for.
- Substratum Content and Widening the Target Market 12/8/2007 12:11:03 PM Something Different wrote: What can be done: 2 Version Movies. 1 would be in a purist form and the other would be in the final edited atistic version. Distributed in Either a 2-disc format or a doublesided one. Such as releasing a movie in fullscreen and artificial widescreen, or artsy and purist, etc. I think this actually has been done a couple of time, for instance by NinnWorx, but the problem is that "artistic" porn is not just "pure" porn plus post-production effects. "Artistic" porn also tend to be shot from other angels and not in as long shots as a lot of gonzo porn. Plus, the make-up, wardrobe, and (above all) lighting tend to be very different. So it's probably alomost impossible to shoot raw footage...

I want the new version of the DVD player! From what I've understood it's just cheaper and lighter. But it is an indication that Sony stands committed to the PS2.

I can only imagine how many husbands are grateful to her for making porn that their wives will watch. Well, maybe I was a bit unfair to her in my previous comments, comparing her to what one would perhaps hope for rather than against the other stuff that's actually available. And perhaps she does employ younger male talent than the other Wicked directors, though I must admit that I was a bit put off from giving her recent recent Operation: Desert Stormy a chance when I read that it featured Stephen St Croix and Randy Spears in two scenes each. These guys are reliable performers and decent actors so I can understand why one would use them, but it doesn't really fee...
- Porn Features 12/4/2007 3:09:33 AM Eli Cross wrote: I've said before that to my mind, Wicked is very much targeting their product towards a "couples market" aesthetic that no longer exists. It's porn for 70-year-old who didn't grow up watching softcore on cable. To my mind, the Wicked aesthetic is geared towards those who think that Martha Stewart is the epitome of sophisticated taste. The way the sex is lighted, the camera angles and movements, the make-up of the girls, their hair, the clothes and jewelry, the interior designs of the sets - it all feels like there's a layer of old dust covering it. And the sex itself, well it's ably done, though it rarely turns me on. But is it really true that there is no market for this? I'm sure there's a niche to be filled he...

You give up certain parts of your privacy when you decide to become a public figure... much like crooks have to learn to "not do the crime if they can't do the time" so must performers decide that there will be certain things they might not want public that will find their way there. Comparing porn people to crooks? Interesting choice of analogy, although I'm not even sure it holds for the intended purpose. Both groups run risks, clearly, but crooks deserve to be punished, porn performers not. What this means is that when society is to decide what to do with a criminal there really is no choice in the matter, but when people with editorial responsibilities decide how...
- Porn Features 12/3/2007 9:51:03 AM juha wrote: Paul Thomas is a true legend. Nobody directed that much feature classics. But nobody directed that much run-of-the-mill features either. If I were him I would concentrate on directing two big productions per year and leave the monthly stuff to new directors. I totally agree. But I also agree with Derek117 that Paul Thomas' stuff has been on a downward trend the last years. Even the big productions feel a bit disoriented. Maybe if he did just direct a couple of films each year he could get back in form, but I don't think there's any sign of that happening. And the newer guys at Vivid like B. Skow and Hank Hoffman don't really seem to be storytellers in the way that PT is (or was) at his best moments. Edited by - tristram on 12/3...

She certainly has skills, and perhaps she'll evolve, but from what I've seen (Second Thoughts and 3 Wishes) her features still feel like day-time soaps, only with sex. And even in her features the sex still mainly is about middle-aged men fucking twenty-something girls.

The supermajority of people in the industry have not had their real names published in such a manner. This is puzzling. If a "reliable source" publishes a porn person's real name without that person's consent, would that still mean that then it's ok to just continue to spread the news?
