  A long time ago, in a review of something by Our Friend Dave, in a moment of inspiration and enthusiasm I wrote "David Stanley's shopping lists are better than some people's completed movies." As a longtime observer of David's work (I unfortunately pointed out a BIG plot hole in the first two minutes of "Big Game") I have watched him go through highs and lows, good movies, bad movies, and a fair amount of Big Baloney Sandwiches.   The AVN sales charts always reminded me of Lyndon Johnson's declaration that we needed a Manned Spacecraft Center and the only question was where in Texas do we put it? When Paul Fishbein allegedly owned a piece of Ben Dover's company there was a Ben Dover title in the top five of every weekly chart for years. As soon as one dropped off, another one came in. (Never mind the &quot;Breakthrough Award&quot; and <link> that featured Ben Dover as the center of the gonzo Universe orbited by the heads of other gonzo shooters.) FWIW, I don't think Dover was ever aware of any of this skulduggery: He was always pleasantly surprised at the attention from AVN.   I've been to that house, it's out in Malibu somewhere, inland. Don't know who owns it, Axel Braun was shooting when I came by. Playboy shot some Playmate test shots there, too. (They also used that diner on San Fernando that was used in Dark Angels 2. If you belong to the Playboy Cyber Club, send me an e-mail and I'll tell you who.) The back yard has a pool with a square red arch over it, so you've seen it even more than you think. Jonni Darkko lives in a loft in Downtown Los Angeles, and when I talked to him there he took such pride in the place (and pleasure in the community) that I doubt very much he owns that Malibu manse as well.
