Costco has a philips 5992 up converting dvd player with hdmi for $49.99, which was on sale for $39.99 but it might be over as of yesterday. Ive heard it does a noticeable job of up converting, not even close to Oppo, but worth the $50. I dont have a 5992 myself, as I just got a 52" Samsung LCD tv just less than 2 weeks ago, and I just got a PS3 tonight at walmart to get the $100 gift card deal they have going. Ive heard the PS3 can up convert dvds, so i will check that out and see how good of a job it does.

Currently Ive been running Vista Ultimate 64bit for about 9 months now and I have no complaints, but Im also running 4gigs of memory with it which makes a huge difference as well. I could be your memory also giving you problems, if you have 2 or more sticks of memory installed, try the system with just 1 stick of memory and see if the problem still occurs. Also if the hard drive is only 6 months old, i would hope the hard drive is not the problem. Also when the computer hangs does it hang at any particular point?

I used to use a program called motherboard monitor for this, but i believe they stopped updating the database for it, so if you have a newer motherboard chipset it might not work, just google it and you will find it. Also if have a Asus or MSI motherboard in your computer, both companies have their own monitoring software, as well as other motherboard makers, just check the companies website for your particular motherboard.
