  Legally, no. The whole arthouse thing isn't just an attempt to fool critics, it's actually enshrined into the law. We don't have a legal category of "porn" but there is something called "obscenity" (which basically means porn so offensive that it's ok to throw the creator in jail). Works with "serious scientific or artistic merit" are not considered pornographic or obscene, regardless of their content. An example of a movie sliding under the radar for science was "Language of Love".

  I don't think piracy is worth worrying about at this stage. Whatever budget you've got for this project, there are companies out there with 1 hex that amount who've still failed to solve this problem. The real issue is well...the basics of porn production (1) getting enough members together to even pay for a scene and (2) actually booking talent.   There's a bit of chicken/egg thing though. It's not worth the effort to build the DAO if the performers aren't interested. The more I think about it the more this seems like a "If you build it, they will come" sort of situation. If you're trying to sell performers on the technical aspect - why do they care? But if you setup the DAO and you explain it to them like any other job (this is the scene, this is the pay etc) I don't think they'll care about the rest of it.

  There seems to be a lot of competing stories right now. The original story by Variety claims that all porn will be banned from OF on October 1st. However several people on twitter are claiming that this is completely false. Variety says they have a press release from OnlyFans corporate, the twitter folks have screenshots that they say are from OnlyFans support. Then there's a third group claiming that the October ban is only for non-verified accounts. No source has been cited for this claim at all.

  I can't see the typical OF model joining a porn studio. I don't think this genie can be put back into the bottle. Private snapchats were a big thing before OnlyFans and I have a feeling that it'll become a thing again very soon. Either that or a surge in camming. As for the Slate article, it was depressing to say the least. So many companies realize the potential of sex workers when it comes to building their platform but none of them seem willing to stay the course. I know that the payment processors are really what's behind this but still...at some point you would think that a company would see the value in fighting back.
