  Often the bearings on the case fans get dust in them. Your case may not be dusty but the fan internals might be. They are supposed to be sealed and last 100K+ hours before failure but it is a cheap mechanical part. Options: 1. Replace fan and power supply and put sound dampening material in place. http://www.acousticpc.com/quiet_computer_case_insulation.html 2. Add a second fan, that is high volume but quieter, thereby taking the load off the other fan. Move to liquid cooling (a big move of sorts) 4, Buy a new case or move your existing case away and sound proof around it. A case withing a case so to speak.

  One thing you could try if you think it might be regional, http://www.internetpulse.net/ or ISP based. More then likely it is at the host or someplace "close" to the host. The issue is bandwidth actually costs money on the hosting side, so if you have a site that is fairly popular and a lot of people are "hitting it" at the same time, and say they are throttled to 1MB/sec all those people have to divide that pipe. I know of at least one porn hosting company that purposefully throttles downloads so as to extend the need for membership all while recycling old content repackaged. I term that "blue piping"

  Tilt shifting and variable focus has been around forever. It is an art effect lens...blurs certain things out and puts the focus directly on the subject intended. The real world use for artistic and select focus is unlimited...

  I totally understand the logistics concerns but my rebuttal is as follows: Most of the time there are a couple staff members at the local shop dedicated to this process. Even if there are not often I have seen at least one if not two other people with the talent at some of these. So lets us, for the sake of this exercise consider that staff is not so much of an issue. In timing a develop cycle of a Polaroid and the burn of a single digital image on a CD, with a regular laptop, the CD wins. The Polaroid,takes about 2.5 minutes to fully develop, the CD, about 35 seconds for a 16 MP image. Now I don't disagree that logistically the equipment is much more complex and requires a certain level of skill...but if all things work well, think about t...

  I went to Best Buy today...I was able to recreate the error pretty easily with the most of the Nikons there...I am betting at this point 90% of the time it is the rotational issue with the contacts or at least PURELY contact related.

  I have seen this work both ways on many forums. Little groups form and then it because a war of rating things UP or rating them DOWN. People create multiple accounts to give themselves props...or to fuck with other people....it is quite amazing what people will do for no good reason.

  Although I shoot mostly Canon, I have some Nikon's and have had similar problems with both. As suggested, update the firmware, clean the contacts, sometimes there is a problem with a memory card. Ultimately most of this boils down to a lens to body fit problem with the lens mounting shoe/bracket being slightly out of alignment or not locking up correctly. Try this, turn the camera on, then see if you can rotate the lens a smidgen without depressing the release. See also if it feels "loose" in relation to the body. If it errors during your test, you now know the problem and send it back.
