Jamie, your post consisted almost entirely of your quote from your friend. If you read my post, I was careful to attribute Sanford's views to Sanford, and not to you. I'm not denying that your friend experienced what he describes. I'm also not denying the feelings he had. Many guys would probably have strong reactions to being paid by their girlfriend's husband to have sex with their girlfriend, or towards being their girlfriend's unpaid pimp. As I said before, I'm questioning the assumption that people in porn are different from people outside of porn. The vast majority of prostitutes have never worked in porn, and drug use and sexual abuse aren't predictive factors in determining who becomes a prostitute. Prostitutes come from all walks...

Bumlover was making the argument that porn performance was "equivalent" to prostitution. The gist of Jamie Gardner's post is that all female porn performers actually engage in prostitution, in addition to being porn performers. Implicit in that is the assumption that porn performance is different from prostitution. Jay Allen Sanford refers to prostitution and performance as different activities. Sanford's argument is that women who enter porn are either predisposed towards prostitution, or that their experience in porn disposes them towards it. But he also says that Aja didn't turn tricks when he knew her, in spite of having done it previously. Assuming that he was talking about the porn star Aja and he knew her when she was acti...

Dither wrote: I don't think that's quite accurate mr. Postal Office Since what you posted doesn't contradict anything I said, could you please point out what I posted that wasn't accurate? It is legal to buy both porn as well as services from prostitutes in Norway, and it is legal to sell from one private individual to another, but in both cases distribution is against the law (for prostitution meaning brothels, pimping or any other form of organised business). I didn't say that pimping (hallik) was legal. It is obviously against the law and prosecuted in Norway. Prostitution, the sale of sexual services for the sexual gratification of the buyer, is legal. The police periodically arrest and prosecute people who make and distribute porn. Th...

bumlover wrote: I've made myself a pariah here for daring to suggest that the emperor has no clothes. What you've done is take two groups of people, point out that both groups do X, and insist that the two groups are morally equivalent because they both do X. Following the same logic, prostitutes wear lipstick, and therefor any woman who wears lipstick is a prostitute. Prostitutes show their legs, western women show their legs, therefore all western women are prostitutes. And so on. Liquor store owners sell an addictive substance that destroys lives, therefore liquor store owners are drug dealers. Dr. Kavorkian killed innocent people, Hitler killed innocent people, therefore what Dr. Kavorkian did was morally equivalent to what Hitler did...

bumlover wrote: I haven't just been arguing about semantics and terminology Right. Definitions aren't arbitrary, they're reality. If I define something a particular way, anyone who doesn't define it the same way is a hypocrite! Here are some more definitions of "prostitute", taken from various people in various societies in various places around the globe. Any women who does these things is a prostitute, because someone defined these things as prostitution! It's reassuring to know that women can be punished for violating these rules that define what a prostitute is. Well, all except the first definition, which came from my grandmother. A prostitute is: Any woman who wears lipstick. Lipstick makes the lips red and simulates se...
