  I'm a Metzger fan or at least I'm a massive fan of "The Opening of Misty Beethoven". I haven't touched the VCA Metzger dvd's because they are not even widescreen. Even without cuts it kills his films for me. Why can't VCA find an original unedited widescreen print of his films? Have they even bothered to look? I guess not!! I have unedited widescreen vhs copies of some of his films. Not "Naked Came the Stranger" though. So the film prints must still exist even if they are in Metzger's basement. I just think it's sloppy work by VCA and is demeaning to both Metzger and his films!!! I know that the market for the classic 70's movies is limited, but I for one would be willing to shell-out maybe $50 or more for a decent ...

  Dave, I agree with you 100%. I find the lack of "erotic set-up" in porn to be bad also. In regards to sexual blackmail and coercion themes I would recommend "Easy" and "Vista Valley PTA". I also think one of the Laure Sainclair films has such a theme. I think it might be "First Lady", but I haven't seen it yet. Perhaps someone else has? Generally I think softcore films offer a lot more erotic set-ups than their hardcore counterparts. This probably has to do with legal problems and censorship. You might want to check out a softcore film called Vicious Circles which is excellent.

  How about the movies themselves? Even if you haven't seen the dvd. Nu Tech dvd's are cheap, but picture quality is usualy ok. Other than the Andrew Blake films, which do you think are her best movies?

  bono-One, Roger Ebert has actually reviewed quite a few adult films in the national press in America. Im obviously going back a bit with that, but he did a good interview with Gerard Damiano back in the 70s. The distribution channels have changed somewhat since then. Back in the 70s they used to have press screenings and send out press packs for some films. Dave, I have thought about doing a review for this site in the past. It just seems odd to write a porn review, or write reviews in general just for fun. Im just a capitalist pig! I also dont get to see that many new adult releases. I cant see any major publication publishing adult film reviews for a long time yet. I think my original post pointed to the main reasons. I have occasion...

  Thanks Ken!! Top marks for coming on here and sorting out the problems with the packaging for international orders. I only wish more stores listened to their customer like Fivestar do.

  Great work!! The full screen format is still a killer for me. The film deserves allot more. I know this may seem odd, but I want to do some research into Radley Metzger. Do you know of any good books or source material with information about Metzgers films?

  Is there any chance that the good psople here at 'Adult Dvd Talk' can use their contacts to help out the international consumers with this stupid packaging situation? It would really help us!! It's not like they will lose money by buying smaller boxes & paying less in shipping.

  I didn't actually buy it. It's a copy from a master that I got from a film archivist. I'm doing an academic project about pornography. I was told that there is no longer a full widescreen original print left, that it was destroyed in the 80's (Kind of like 'Transformers the movie'). I was told that there are very few copies are still around in this version (don't know if this is true). I also have a widescreen copy of 'The Private afternoons of Pamela Mann'. Both are in perfect condition. Anyway, It does have some foreign subtitles beneath the black band, which actually gives it a real Godardian feel. I would never want to watch it in full screen, so I'm not going to buy the dvd. I'm in the UK, so if anyone wants to trade for it?

  Yeah I know what you mean...I used the kickback program for the first time a couple of days ago, but nothing came up on profile/balance. Fivestar have already shipped the dvd's, but yet nothing shows. Does it all get added up at the end of the month or something?

  Damn...still no disks!!! Does anyone know how long UK customs takes to check through a package, then send it on? I know when they seize a package it takes a couple of months to get a letter, but What about just an examination?

  Thanks, but as they all seem to be good, I'm back where I started. I would get the original New Wave Hookers, but I don't like the fact that cuts have been made to it. I'll most likely get part 6.

  I think a better question is how much more business did the other companies pick up? Fivestar seem to be more attentive now to international consumers now, lowered prices etc. As net business is on the increase anyway, I think they will only see the effect in the long term. Since Ive stopped using them, Ive used a few other stores. I still buy as many dvds. Unless they have a sale, I wont be going back to ADN.

  Saki, Wow, great post. Thanks! spesedy, Yeah, I don't really see much difference. I don't see how 'Uranus Experiment' is Black Label under those guidelines! I like the way Private subtly terms "hardcore buttfucking" as their main selling point. So much for trying to merge with with the mainstream!!
