This seems to be as good a thread as any to ask this qusetion: I would like to purchase a copy of "Dixie Ray - Hollywood Star" , and the only place I can find a copy is at Excalibur. But! On their site it says the following: Excalibur Films has now acquired the rights to re-release this movie and has created new artwork packaging. Excalibur Films no longer uses the original box art packaging. The movie is still the same high quality as the original release, only the packaging has been changed so that it can be sold under the Excalibur Films banner. What the hell does that mean? If I order it am I going to get a DVD-R as opposed to a DVD? I am starting to think I should just buy a membership to CaballeroClassics.Com and just downlo...

well, I am not sure if you are strictly referring to CGI effects or not. There are many "digital FX" that are not CGI. I have always been partial to the bi-cameral brainfuck montage that appears in "Buttman Confidential". Basically, you take an image and then invert it three more times and superimpose all of the images on top of each other. This tends to make genitalia look like ultra-dimensional jelly fish. I suppose in the pre-digital era [70's] this could have been achieved by taking LSD and going to a peep show with a kaleidoscope.....

Funnily enough, I have Ms. Deren's "Divine Horsemen" in my Netflix queue right now. I also own the fantoma DVd release "The Films of Kenneth Anger: vol1" and am eagerly awaiting the second volume. I really love "Rabbit's Moon" and can't help but wonder what Mr Leslie thinks of Anger's liberal use of 50's Doo-Wop music in the piece. Hello All, just dropping by to offer a rather off-hand observation I had this week. I sat in a dark room and immersed myself in David Lynch's "Inland Empire" a couple of days ago and all through the movie I kept thinking, "what does this remind me of?" Yesterday it hit me, John Leslie's "Fresh Meat" [the first one]. "Inland" is over three hours long and it has an intense vibe around it, layers and layers of a glass onion. It is about "a woman in trouble" and it is very California, very dreamlike, and very weird. Of course the same could be said of "Fresh Meat".
